Nordic Pavillion (1962) by Architect Sverre Fehn A closer look at the grid of slender concrete beams (lamellae) making up a skylight ceiling. The pale white concrete is made out of crushed Italian marble, white cement and white sand - some elements of which are specific to the Venetian site. The architecture has steered away from traditional Nordic materials and enclosed spaces - instead, it reinterprets the ambience of Nordic light while pushing the boundaries of materiality and tectonics.

Nordic Pavillion (1962) by Architect Sverre Fehn Materiality and the arrangement of structural concrete beams combine to form an entire ceiling of skylights. Architectural works it charm by transforming the warm exterior Mediterranean light into that of a reminiscent, calming Nordic light. It feels as though I am walking through a forest on an overcast day without harsh shadows. Featured in the gallery space for the 2017 art Biennale is ‘Onda Volante’ (flying wave) by Siri Aurdal.

Studio Venezia by Xavier Veilhan, French Pavilion at Venice Biennale 2017 Muted interior palette and lively rotated forms. A balanced contrast of sorts

Studio Venezia by Xavier Veilhan, French Pavilion at Venice Biennale 2017 A constellation of triangular skylights light up interior spaces. The natural interior palette emphasises a playful arrangement of geometrical forms. Two thoughts come to my mind - bold yet cosy #kitamotif

Studio Venezia by Xavier Veilhan, French Pavilion at Venice Biennale 2017 This space excites various senses! Musicians from all backgrounds are invited to create and experiment in this living music studio. Spectators get the opportunity to immerse themselves in the artistic production of music - witnessing spontaneous sessions taking place amongst various musical instruments. The entire space, lit by skylights has a strong aesthetic using only two materials - wood and acoustic felt panels. #kitamotif
