The thing about painting is you really have to stop thinking, or over thinking, at least for me. I do my best work when I am lost in creativity, not worried about the outcome or if it looks "right". ESSENTIAL OILS TO ENHANCE CONNECTION - Your inner voice – the encouraging, supportive, loving one that’s the real you – as opposed to the Monkey Mind one that’s definitely not – I find that essential oils are great for incorporating into simple and quick (but very effective) daily rituals to help us in connecting more with the former and give less airplay in your mind to the latter. - Every day I like to prioritise spending anything from 5 to 60 minutes on rituals to enhance my connection to my own true spirit. I love things such as meditation, journalling, tapping (EFT), affirmations, visualisation and manifesting, etc. I don’t do all of them every day, instead I pick and choose to some degree. - But I do find that utilising my oils along with these practices can enhance them a lot – I usually apply my oils of choice topically to my temples, back of neck, over my heart, bottoms of feet, or similar (feel free to go with your intuition) or use them in my diffuser. - Some of my favourite essential oils for self-connection include SANDALWOOD, FRANKINCENSE and ROSE, but to be honest sometimes I’ll also just use whatever I have close to hand on my beside table or whatever, so there’s no need to be too fussy about it. When you look into someone’s eyes, can you really know what they are thinking? We all do it – we mind-read! Someone will say something to us and we will receive what they say in a way that we have interpreted it. We either choose to delete what the other person says, or distort it, or make a generalisation about what is said. How many times have you rung or texted someone and waited hours for them to reply or get back to you? How did you read or interpret it? Are you guilty of deletion distortion or generalisation? This post is in honor of the 800 WMU students who heard my lecture on the eight limbs of yoga this month. The apex of that talk is when I teach on the Niyama (observance) of Saucha (cleanliness), and its relationship to the Yama of Ahimsa (non-harming). We discuss how cleaning up thoughts that cause self-harm is a direct path out of suffering. @yogaruparodstryker once said, “Every thought is a choice; consciously or unconsciously, we are always choosing.” Painful past experiences shape the way we think and feel about things now. If we are not aware of it, these old stories will control our lives. We must learn to observe our thoughts, question and challenge them. We must practice “trying on” new thoughts, more empowering ones. The best way I know how to do that is to ask myself the “Core Question”: . With mindfulness meditation we have both formal and informal practice as potential options. . An example of formal practice would be when we set aside a specific time period to sit and engage in something like the body scanning technique or a breath based meditation. . The informal practice is when you bring mindfulness into your everyday activities. For example if you are walking to the shops you can switch your mind from the typical mindless wondering mode to noticing and engaging in the act of walking. That means to walk purposefully and notice things about each stride. . Notice how the arms are moving. Which part of the foot hits the floor first. But critically this must be nonjudgmental awareness. If you notice soreness in the left knee, don’t then think about what cream you’ll buy at the pharmacy. Just notice the sensation. Feel it without judgement. . Hey, I never said it was easy. . You can apply this to anything, like washing dishes or tidying the house for example. The idea is that by being fully present in the moment, being aware of your body and breath and being 100% focussed on the task (whatever it may be) you will get the benefits of a mindfulness practice. . These benefits are mental (a calm mind) and physiological (literally releasing stress from the body) whilst also strengthening your natural ability to be more awake, aware and focused in the present moment. Over time this ability will become second nature and you will find you spend more and more time engaged in the present moment without the monkey mind taking over. . You may also find your pains and soreness lose their fire too. Spent my morning grocery shopping in Germany whilst listening to @ralphdelarosa being interviewed about his new book, which blends trauma theory, neuroscience, and Buddhism. I nodded my way through the vegetable aisle and took notes in the checkout lane. Excellent tawk about how essential it is to get your body involved in your meditation (aka YOGA), the work of Bessel Van Der Kolk re: the body functioning as a somatic diary of sorts, and so much more. . Love his notion of “radical non-pathology” (there’s nothing wrong with you!), which dovetails so nicely with my thinking lately about the pathological malignance of the Christian doctrine of Original Sin. Not to mention his emphasis on treating ourselves with gentleness and curiosity vs judgment. Made me feel more certain than ever that a meditation practice must go hand-in-hand with any kind of traditional therapy. (And dare I say, might even be more effective.) . So much goodness from Buddhist meditation here. Could quote it all. Instead, read the book, listen to the interview over at @one_you_feed, and keep doing your practice. 🙈 I am very nervous about this cleanse! Why do we fear the things that are most crucial to our evolution? Challenge accepted For a long time I've wanted to learn how to play guitar, but I always assumed it wasn't for me. Tried it for a minute or two and decided it was way too intricate with all those chords and the strumming and bla bla bla... I don't feel like listening to my mind telling me I can not do certain things anymore. Time to step it up. No one else but me is telling me I wouldn't be able to do this. If this is something I want to be able to do, than I'm just going to practice untill I can. It doesn't have to be the most beautiful sound from a guitar ever heard. As long as I am having fun that should be key here. Inspired by my time spent in Spain, when my beautiful brother Guido taught me the basics of chords and strumming. Thank you brother, I'll keep you posted on the progress ♡ (Hopefully this post will also function as a little reminder for myself to not give up when it gets hard haha) #chooseloveoverfear

Fold forward. . I love that there are so many forward bends in primary series, as they have that calming effect on the body as well as the mind. My body is very quick in releasing stress hormones, so counteracting that seems like one of my all-time primary tasks - as much as I dislike that. . So also on a very personal level, the sequence of the primary series, that "yoga therapy" (yoga cikitsā) does make so much sense. Practicing that sequence that is demanding & very strengthening for the body, but keeps forcing the nervous system to calm down again and again in between before moving on to second series is like a big, fat, very important first step. And maybe even the biggest task to master for me. . There certainly is something repetitive about folding forward in different positions, different intensities, different angles. So it is very tempting at times to skip postures. But at the moment, it seems to be what's teaching me the most. . Thinking back to a teacher who once told me: "If you don't like it, you need it". Never under estimate the power of exercise on your mental health. Getting outside on such a glorious day and getting in touch with nature while being active is so good for calming that monkey mind. I’ve always been a keen runner who ran while listening to music. I thought I needed music for motivation but it was just to block out my own thoughts. I’ve been running without music for a month now and loving it. Listening to all the wonderful sounds around me; Wind through leaves, birds, distance aeroplanes, my breath. Feeling the warm sun on my face and cool air hitting my body. Being present calms and breaks the cycle of those cheeky chattering monkeys that can persist and drive anxiety. Jadi, ambil napas dalam-dalam sampai benar-benar rileks, biarkan pikiran-pikiran itu berkelana sesukanya sampai ‘capek sendiri’. 2. Jangan percayai semuanya 3. Menjadi pengamat pikiran Anda sendiri 4. Berlatih menerima Ketika kita terus mengingat ‘pengalaman buruk’ dari kesalahan yang pernah kita buat, maka akan semakin memperkuat ketidaknyamanan diri sendiri. But it's about you to be there for yourself. If you can't find 1 minute at least per day for yourself, what are you trying to do then with your life. When the mind and the body are restless, nothing in life can be accomplished ⚡️ . Independence is achieved by indifference. It does not mean that one should take no heed of what anyone does or says; it only means one should discriminate between important and unimportant things of everyday life; that every necessary and unnecessary thing should not demand so much of one's attention, thought, and feeling. Political economy has become a subject of education, but spiritual economy is the main thing in religion. All one says and does and all that one thinks and feels puts a certain strain upon one's spirit. It is wise to avoid every risk of losing one's equilibrium. One must stand peacefully but firmly before all influences that disturb one's life. The natural inclination is to answer in defense to every offense that comes from outside, but in that way one loses one's equilibrium. Self-control, therefore, is the key to all success and happiness. . You know- the feeling when you head is spinning and you are frozen because you just can’t think clearly to do anything? It is hard as hell, but tune in, deepen your breathe and find your center. Find you self. Find your control. Then you can move forward. Been so busy busy these last couple of weeks, so busy that sadly I often forget to pratice what I preach; that it's the space between the music that makes the music.. Hello 👋 all 💜 Are you running away from the present moment? We hear so many say the words “ just be” live in the present moment “ be in the moment “ but is it that simple ? Are you even aware of just how powerful the lower mind - ego can be , it can be quite difficult when the lower mind is chattering away at you telling you to do this , do that ( distractions ) I too have experienced so much in the way of ego mind especially this year as I’m ending ancestral patterns that run deep so I know the importance of awareness “ many may be struggling and remain trapped in the mind repeating the same thought patterns that lower their frequency, many may believe that to change these thought patterns they must change their reality by doing everything out there! Maybe you change jobs - locations - relationships , changing the way you do things and although change is good we must look deeper at the situation presenting , if we are not aware of our lower mind ego then you will be guided by it , no doubt creating as many distractions as possible to make you feel as though you are changing the thought patterns and that thought - feeling that doesn’t fulfil you , you look out there to be fulfilled. What we need to understand here is that wherever you go and whatever you do , these ego mind thoughts etc will come with you , you will experience the exact same but maybe through difficult circumstances and people , many people run away from the present moment not fully understanding that the present moment is wherever you are ! You can’t escape the present moment nor should you want to because it is the present moment that gives you the opportunity to heal and evolve, the present moment is the now and the most important place to be is the now and until you deal with whatever it is in the now that doesn’t fulfil you , the lower mind ego control will still be there , to heal we must feel and take the journey within, being trapped in the lower mind will create lower frequency thought patterns and this will create your experience, your reality and the more you stay in this place , the more( full post on Facebook walktalk&breathelight #ego #lowermind #monkeymind #egomind #control
