#thewildbunch #trivia 🎞 -During the opening robbery sequence, two children are seen holding each other, and watching as one of the robbers rides by on horseback and scoops up a bag of money laying on the ground. The boy in that scene is Matthew Peckinpah, director Sam Peckinpah's son. -The movie's line "If they move, kill 'em." was voted as the #72 of "The 100 Greatest Movie Lines" by Premiere in 2007. -There were not enough uniforms for all of the stunt people and extras in the gun battle. If someone was filmed getting shot, the costume people would repair a uniform by washing off the fake blood, taping and painting over the bullet holes, drying the paint and sending either the same or a different performer out to get shot again. #classicsuggestions #movietrivia #sampeckinpah #walongreen #roynsickner #williamholden #ernestborgnine #robertryan #edwardobrien

#thewildbunch #trivia 🎟 -The name "The Wild Bunch" was first applied by the press to a gang of outlaws active in Oklahoma and Indian Territories, headed by Bill Doolin. Every member of that gang eventually died violently. Later, the name "The Wild Bunch" was applied by the press to the Hole in the Wall Gang of Butch Cassidy. -Supposedly, more blank rounds were discharged during the production than live rounds were fired during the Mexican Revolution of 1916 around which the film is loosely based. In total 90,000 rounds were fired, all blanks. -When Warren Oates emerges from under the bridge right before the Wild Bunch begin their assault on the train, a large penis has clearly been drawn on the bridge to the left of where he enters. #classicsuggestions #movietrivia #sampeckinpah #walongreen #roynsickner #williamholden #ernestborgnine #robertryan #edwardobrien

#thewildbunch #trivia 🎬 -According to Harrigan, Thornton is Pike's Judas goat. A Judas goat is an animal trained to lead others into a slaughterhouse. Its life is spared as it "betrays" its own kind. -Sam Peckinpah didn't feel he was getting enough from the schoolteacher in the railroad office (she actually was a teacher), so he told Bo Hopkins to stick his tongue in her ear and got the reaction from her he wanted. -According to L.Q. Jones, he and Strother Martin approached director Sam Peckinpah with an idea to add more depth to their characters (T.C. and Coffer). The idea was to add a hint of a homosexual relationship between their characters. Peckinpah liked the idea and the footage made it into the final release version. #classicsuggestions #movietrivia #sampeckinpah #walongreen #roynsickner #williamholden #ernestborgnine #robertryan #edwardobrien

#thewildbunch #trivia 📽 -According to editor Lou Lombardo the original release print contains some 3,643 editorial cuts, more than any other Technicolor film ever processed. Some of these cuts are near subliminal, consisting of three or four frames, making them almost imperceptible to the naked eye. -The image of the scorpion being dropped in the ant hill was suggested by Emilio Fernández because he and his friends used to do that as children. The image was not in the script. -The famous "Last Walk" was improvised by Sam Peckinpah during the shoot. Originally, the scene was to begin with the Bunch leaving the whorehouse and immediately cut to the confrontation with Mapache. Once the decision was made to lengthen the scene, many of the Mexican extras were choreographed by the assistant directors while the scene was filming. Peckinpah had it filmed with a special "depth-of-field" lens which had the effect of keeping all the people in the frame, including those in the foreground, in sharp focus as the Bunch walks forward. #classicsuggestions #movietrivia #sampeckinpah #walongreen #roynsickner #williamholden #ernestborgnine #robertryan #edwardobrien

#thewildbunch #trivia 🌵 -Sam Peckinpah had long decided on where he wanted to go with the look of the film. He recalled a hunting trip during the filming of Ride the High Country (1962) and, after shooting a buck, told a friend, "The bullet went in the size of a dime. But the blood on the snow was the size of a salad plate. That's the way violence is. That's the way death is. And that's what I want to do on film." -Before William Holden was cast, the role was turned down by Lee Marvin, Burt Lancaster, James Stewart, Charlton Heston, Gregory Peck, Sterling Hayden, Richard Boone and Robert Mitchum. Marvin actually accepted the role but pulled out after he was offered a larger pay deal to star in Paint Your Wagon (1969). He also felt that film was too similar to The Professionals (1966), which also co-starred Robert Ryan. -Ernest Borgnine spoke highly of Sam Peckinpah as director, claiming that he ran the set on-schedule, had a good relationship with the cast, and only drank hard during days off. #classicsuggestions #movietrivia #sampeckinpah #walongreen #roynsickner #williamholden #ernestborgnine #robertryan #edwardobrien

#thewildbunch #trivia 🎭 -Before filming began, William Holden and Sam Peckinpah argued over the mustache Peckinpah felt that Holden's character, Pike Bishop, would wear, because Holden reportedly did not like his image on film with one. Peckinpah won the argument, and Holden wore a false mustache during filming. -Excluding the start and end credits, this film contains about 2,721 edits in about 138 minutes of action. This equates to an average shot length of three seconds. The "Shootout at Bloody Porch" contains about 325 edits in five minutes of action, for an average shot length slightly under one second. -After filming the scene where Ernest Borgnine and William Holden sit by a campfire and their characters vow they "wouldn't have it any other way", it was hard for director Sam Peckinpah to yell, "Cut!" because he was crying. #classicsuggestions #movietrivia #sampeckinpah #walongreen #roynsickner #williamholden #ernestborgnine #robertryan #edwardobrien

Soundstage 2 (i.e., the largest one on Disney's Burbank lot) was filled with all sorts of elaborate sets. Everything from an over-grown New England graveyard to a full-sized version of the Sanderson Sisters' house. Thora Birch during breaks in filming -- would go into the Sanderson Sisters house and explore, opening drawers, seeing what she could find. Kathy Najimy spoke fondly on her time on Soundstage 2. How -- because of the earth & fake cobwebs that were used in the creation of this particular set -- it had a very unique smell. #thewildbunch #trivia 🔫 -During a screening in New York, Sam Peckinpah invited Jay Cocks, of Time magazine, who brought his friend Martin Scorsese. They sat in an empty Warner Bros. screening room with only two other critics, Judith Crist and Rex Reed. That final scene knocked them out of their seats. Recalled Scorsese, "We were mesmerized by it; it was obviously a masterpiece. It was real filmmaking, using film in such a way that no other form could do it; it couldn't be done any other way. To see that in an American filmmaker was so exciting." Cocks remembered that he and Scorsese "literally turned to each other at the end and were stunned. We were looking at each other, shaking our heads, like we had just come out of a shared fever dream." -John Wayne complained that the film destroyed the myth of the Old West. -Ernest Borgnine's limp wasn't acting. During that scene, a mime replaced the mannequin to try and play with people's minds when they watched that scene. 🎬 In the film, Will Smith's character holds up a CD, calling it "the best album ever made." In the opening credits, after freezing the screen on closeups of William Holden's and Ernest Borgnine's faces while listing them, Peckinpah froze the scene on several horses' rear ends as Ryan was listed. -The train robbery itself was not in the script. Luke: "Ben! Why didn't you tell me? You told me that Darth Vader betrayed and murdered my father..." . Obi-Wan: "Your father... was seduced by the Dark Side of the Force. He ceased to be the Jedi Anakin Skywalker and "became" the Sith Darth Vader. When that happened, the good man who was your father was destroyed. So, what I told you was true... from a certain point of view..." . Luke: "A certain point of view?: . Obi-Wan: "Luke, you're going to find that many of the truths we cling to depend greatly on our own point of view. Anakin was a good friend. When I first met him, your father was already a great pilot. But I was amazed how strongly the Force was with him. I took it upon myself to train him as a Jedi. I thought that I could instruct him just as well as Yoda. I was wrong..." . Luke: "There is still good in him..." . Obi-Wan: "He's more machine now than man. Twisted and evil..." Nominated for 2 Oscars, the Post is based on true events of the Washington Post leaking documents regarding the Vietnam war. Great performances. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Fact 1: Steven Spielberg wanted to have his film released as quickly as possible given the parallels between its theme and the burgeoning political 'fake news' climate in the U.S. Fact 2: According to Meryl Streep, filming started in May (2017) and finished at the end of July (2017) and Spielberg had it cut two weeks later, an unprecedented feat. The gestation from script to final cut lasted a modest 9 months. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ What did you think of the movie? Double tap if you enjoyed this masterpiece. ‘Re-Animator’(1985) Dr. Carl Hill, or the talking head, played by David Gale was divorced shortly after the film’s release. In the DVD's audio commentary, the rest of the cast suspects his wife left him after seeing the scene when his character attempts to rape Megan. That scene always personally creeped me out. #marnie #trivia 🔫 -Sir Sean Connery had been worried that being under contract to Eon Productions for James Bond and non-Bond movies would limit his career, and turned down every non-Bond movie Eon offered him. When asked what he wanted to do, Connery replied that he wanted to work with Sir Alfred Hitchcock, which Eon arranged through their contacts. Connery also shocked many people at the time by asking to see a script, something Connery did because he was worried about being typecast as a spy, and he did not want to do a variation of North by Northwest (1959) or Notorious (1946). When told by Hitchcock's agent that Cary Grant did not ask to see even one of Hitchcock's scripts, Connery replied, "I'm not Cary Grant." Hitchcock and Connery got along well during filming. Connery also said that he was happy with the movie, "with certain reservations." -After Princess Grace Kelly dropped out of talks to be in the movie, Marilyn Monroe expressed interest in playing the part. According to Hollywood columnist Army Archard, when Sir Alfred Hitchcock was asked about this possible casting, his reply was, "It's an interesting idea". -DIRECTOR CAMEO (Sir Alfred Hitchcock): (At around five minutes) Coming out of a hotel room as Marnie walks along the corridor. #classicsuggestions #movietrivia #alfredhitchcock #winstongraham #jaypressonallen #tippihedren #seanconnery #martingabel #louisatham

So I need help finding a movie I remember from childhood. I’m pretty sure all these pieces are the same movie but the basic gist is this: A young man(teen or older) who is kind of an outcast and bullied and shit upon finds a weapon that he attaches to his arm. I’m pretty sure there’s a male figure(dad, guardian, uncle) that treats the kid like shit, maybe runs a business and the kid might live in a shack?(that part not sure on). Anyways I think the kid thinks he’s like an alien or something, that version of the outcast trope, and he believes the weapon to be from his true people, maybe, but I could be adding to that. What I do remember his him vaporizing some people with it and the government or police trying to track him cuz the weapon might actually be military originally? And I believe they eventually get him by lighting up a field with lights to make him think the aliens have returned for him, maybe a genre actor or two in it. Anyways, any of this sound familiar? #scifi #80s #80smovie #drawing #whatmovieisthis #movie #film #help #lazer #guessthemovie #filmvault #movieknowledge #movietrivia #filmknowledge at Baton Rouge, Louisiana

Quint: "You’ve got city hands, Mr. Hooper… Been countin’ money all your life..." . Director Steven Spielberg's biggest fear other than the appearance/performance of the mechanical shark was that cameras would catch sight of land. The reason Spielberg did not want land to be seen was because he thought the audience could envision the characters having the option of just running back to shore when in danger. He wanted to isolate the audience as much as the characters. . . 1975 Jaws . #stevenspielberg #jaws #shark #pearlharbor #horror #fear #robertshaw #richarddreyfuss #royscheider #johnwilliams #cinema #filmphotography #photography #cinematography #filming #filmmaker #director #hollywood #storytellers #storytelling #photooftheday #bestoftheday #movietrivia #filmisnotdead #video #bluray #moviecollector #analogue #analog #filmfeed

Brody: "You're gonna need a bigger boat..." . When a Midwestern audience were shown an early cut of the film, they were so shocked by the "pop-up scare" that occurs when the great white shark breaches the surface of the water as Brody chums off the bow of the boat, that their reactions drowned out his ironic comment "You're gonna need a bigger boat." . After reviewing their taping of the moment, the filmmakers extended the sequence, adding another 10.6 meters (35 ft) of film to give the audience enough time to recover to enjoy the "much-needed moment of comic relief" provided by Brody's line. . According to writer Carl Gottlieb, the line was not scripted, but ad-libbed by Roy Scheider. . . 1975 Jaws . #stevenspielberg #jaws #shark #pearlharbor #horror #fear #robertshaw #richarddreyfuss #royscheider #johnwilliams #cinema #filmphotography #photography #cinematography #filming #filmmaker #director #hollywood #storytellers #storytelling #photooftheday #bestoftheday #movietrivia #filmisnotdead #video #bluray #moviecollector #analogue #analog #filmfeed

#marnie #trivia 🎟 -Sir Alfred Hitchcock put Edgar Allan Poe references throughout this movie. Marnie's last name is Edgar. In the novel, Marnie's last name is Elmer. Unlike the movie, the novel takes place in England. Like Poe's characters, Marnie Edgar is subject to psychological terror. This movie takes place in New York City (Strutt's office), Virginia (Garrod's Stables), and Philadelphia (Rutland Publishing and Wickwind). These are the three places that Edgar Allan Poe lived throughout the better part of his life. The movie's climactic scene takes place at Marnie's mother's house in Baltimore, the city where Poe died under mysterious circumstances in 1849. Tippi Hedren played Marnie. Tippi Hedren and Edgar Allan Poe were born on January 19. In the novel, Marnie's mother's name is Edith Elmer. In this movie, Sir Alfred Hitchcock changed Marnie's mother's name to Bernice Edgar. "Berenice" was a short story written by Edgar Allan Poe. In a 1960 article called "Why I Am Afraid of the Dark", Hitchcock noted this information, "it's because I liked Edgar Allan Poe's stories so much, that I began to make suspense films." -Sir Alfred Hitchcock wanted Princess Grace Kelly to make her screen comeback in the title role, but the people of Monaco were not happy with the idea of their Princess playing a compulsive thief. -When Sir Sean Connery honored Sir Alfred Hitchcock at the AFI Life Achievement Award: A Tribute to Alfred Hitchcock (1979) gala tribute, Hitchcock didn't recognize Sean because he didn't have any hair. #classicsuggestions #movietrivia #alfredhitchcock #winstongraham #jaypressonallen #tippihedren #seanconnery #martingabel #louisatham

Quint: "Y'know, by the end of that first dawn... lost a hundred men. I dunno how many sharks. Maybe a thousand. I dunno how many men, they averaged six an hour. On Thursday mornin', Chief, I bumped into a friend of mine, Herbie Robinson from Cleveland - baseball player, boatswain's mate. I thought he was asleep, reached over to wake him up... bobbed up and down in the water just like a kinda top. Upended. Well... he'd been bitten in half below the waist... . "Noon the fifth day, Mr. Hooper, a Lockheed Ventura saw us, he swung in low and he saw us. Young pilot, a lot younger than Mr. Hooper. Anyway, he saw us and come in low and three hours later, a big fat PBY comes down and start to pick us up. Y'know, that was the time I was most frightened, waitin' for my turn. I'll never put on a life jacket again. So, eleven hundred men went into the water, three hundred sixteen men come out, and the sharks took the rest, June the 29th, 1945..." . The Ballad of Buster Scruggs (2018) In this chapter (Meal Ticket), Harrison begins the show with the poem Ozymandias, by Shelley; he then proceeds to quote from Genesis chapter 4 (the story of Cain and Abel), Sonnet 30 by William Shakespeare, Sonnet 29 also by Shakespeare, then ends with the Gettysburg Address, by Abraham Lincoln. When they are collecting contributions from the audience, Harrison is repeating Prospero's speech from "The Tempest", act 4 scene 1 which is also spoken at the end of a performance. ------------------------------------------------------- #theballadofbusterscruggs #coenbrothers #joelcoen #ethancoen #timblakenelson #jamesfranco #liamneeson #harrymelling #tomwaits #zoekazan #comedy #drama #musical #western #netflix #movies #moviequotes #movietrivia #moviescenes #cinema

Did you know that prior to the production of An American Werewolf In London the British office of Actors' Equity questioned the necessity of a work permit for Griffin Dunne, claiming that there were already plenty of young American actors living in Great Britain, who could play Jack. It was only when Director and Screenwriter John Landis threatened to re-write the script, and retitle the movie "An American Werewolf in Paris", that the equity office reconsidered the application and granted Dunne his work permit. 💀 💀 💀 #anamericanwerewolfinlondon #anamericanwerewolfinparis #johnlandis #horror #horrormovies #vhs #vhscollector #vhsforever #movies #moviefacts #trivia #movietrivia #scary #scarymovies #tapes #nostalgia #vintage #retro #interesting #film #filmfacts #vhscollection #vhshorror #horrorvhs #feedyourvcr

#marnie #trivia 🎞 -To film real horses riding without having to work outdoors, Sir Alfred Hitchcock came up with the idea of running the horses on a gigantic treadmill. Crew members objected to the idea, because it was considered highly unsafe, and because they simply didn't think it would work. Still, Hitchcock wanted to at least try it, and when they did, it worked without a problem. Originally, a harness was attached to Tippi Hedren during these shots for safety reasons, but it was removed when it was found to impede shooting. -Despite the troubles which reportedly took place on set, Tippi Hedren has stated that this is her favorite movie in which she has appeared. -Despite the poor reviews, this movie turned out to be a moderate box-office success for Universal Pictures. It grossed seven million dollars in U.S. theaters on a budget of three million dollars. #classicsuggestions #movietrivia #alfredhitchcock #winstongraham #jaypressonallen #tippihedren #seanconnery #martingabel #louisatham

Carrie Fisher stood on a box for many of her scenes with Harrison Ford in order to make up for the height difference, and have her appear in the frame with him. Carrie Fisher (5'1") was a foot shorter than Harrison Ford (6'1"). . Having Han Solo frozen in carbonite was (at least in part) due to the fact that they were not sure that Harrison Ford would return for a third movie. When Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope (1977) was made, Carrie Fisher and Mark Hamill were signed for a three movie deal, but Harrison Ford refused. . Ford even requested George Lucas to kill off Solo, since the character had played his part already, but Lucas refused, saying that he still had a heroic part for Han Solo to play in Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi (1983). . . 1980 Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back . #starwars #empirestrikesback #lucasfilm #georgelucas #markhamill #carriefisher #harrisonford #filmphotography #photography #cinematography #filming #filmmaker #director #editor #producer #hollywood #traveller #storytellers #storytelling #videoshoot #photooftheday #bestoftheday #movietrivia #filmisnotdead #video #bluray #moviecollector #analogue #analog #filmfeed

To preserve the dramatic opening of the Star Wars movies, George Lucas insisted on moving all the credits to the end of the movie. . However, although the Writers' Guild and Directors' Guild had begrudgingly allowed this on Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope (1977) (because that movie wasn't expected to be very successful), they resented the trend being continued on this movie. First they tried to pull this movie from release, but were unsuccessful. . They then fined Lucas heavily, and tried to fine Irvin Kershner, but Lucas paid all of the fines himself (nearly $250,000). Lucas then bitterly dropped his membership in the Writers' Guild, Directors' Guild, and the Motion Picture Association of America, a move that has hindered his hiring choices on later movies. . . 1980 Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back . #starwars #empirestrikesback #lucasfilm #georgelucas #markhamill #carriefisher #harrisonford #filmphotography #photography #cinematography #filming #filmmaker #director #editor #producer #hollywood #traveller #storytellers #storytelling #videoshoot #photooftheday #bestoftheday #movietrivia #filmisnotdead #video #bluray #moviecollector #analogue #analog #filmfeed

David Prowse was unaware that Darth Vader was Luke's father until he saw this movie, and was quite upset with George Lucas afterwards, saying his physical acting would have been completely different if he'd known the real line. . Security surrounding this movie was so intense that George Lucas had regular reports about "leaks" from actors and actresses. George Lucas was so determined that the ending be kept secret that he had Prowse (Darth Vader) say "Obi-wan killed your father", and dubbed it later to be "I am your father". . In fact, only five people eventually knew about the ending before the movie's release: George Lucas (came up with the idea in his second draft, after the death of Leigh Brackett), director Irvin Kershner (informed of such during story conferences), screenwriter Lawrence Kasdan (also informed during story and script conferences), Mark Hamill (informed shortly before the shooting of the infamous scene), and James Earl Jones (told during the recording sessions for the final dub, and who believed that Darth Vader was lying). . . 1980 Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back . #starwars #empirestrikesback #lucasfilm #georgelucas #markhamill #carriefisher #harrisonford #filmphotography #photography #cinematography #filming #filmmaker #director #editor #producer #hollywood #traveller #storytellers #storytelling #videoshoot #photooftheday #bestoftheday #movietrivia #filmisnotdead #video #bluray #moviecollector #analogue #analog #filmfeed

Wes Anderson’s cinematic magic is good for the soul. His critically acclaimed visual delight ‘The Grand Budapest Hotel’ is one of my all time favourites. Jeff Goldblum’s character Vilmos Kovacs is a homage to Hungarian cinematographers Vilmos Zsigmond and László Kovács. Both Zsigmond and Kovács paved the way for the American New Wave film movement. The movement went on to produce highly successful and prolific figures in modern cinema such as Woody Allen, Francis Ford Coppola and Martin Scorsese.
