If you were to do an overhead press, do you thrust your ribs out?⁣ ⁣ Take a look at the videos & let me know which is more you, the first or the second ⁣ ⁣ For a pregnant lady, or a mum who has a diastasis recti or pelvic floor symptoms, rib thrusting actually puts the core on more of a stretch, putting more pressure through the linea alba (midline) & sends pressure down in to the pelvic floor, possibly causing pelvic floor heaviness or leaking ⁣ ⁣ When pressing above your head, think about stacking your rib cage in line with your pelvis. They can be too tight or we might have trouble engaging them. Either way during times of stress we might carry tension there. Which can can lead to leaking and pain. The benefits of waking up before everyone else...number 103 - - So my workout this morning was a game of two halves! - - The left is the first half is me doing my leg day whilst Grace and Daddy were still in bed. It was a seriously tough one this morning, lower reps but heavier weights and multiple sets per block targeting the glutes and legs (which I stupidly said I needed 😂) - - Then G woke up as I was going into the next block ...as you can see it did not stop me BUT I had to include A LOT of stops, chatting, toast making and toys. - - I tell you all the time, go to bed earlier, get up earlier than the rest of the house..once you get used to it trust me it’s your little sanctuary- especially now we are all at home on top of one another. - - When the kids are up and needing things from you it gives you every reason NOT to do your workout, not to give yourself some you time and trust me...you’re worse off for it. Today I chair danced. I will never be a performer and I will probably never feel 100% in my comfort zone doing this but I did enjoy it and for a first time ever trying this style of choreography I am really proud of myself. Because I did it, I did it with people I don't know watching (well not watching we were all working our asses off in our own homes but they could see me if they chose to), I did it with a home audience. And o didn't hate myself or second guess myself once while doing it. I am slowly starting to learn that my body is going to be lumpy and bumpy forever and I just need to embrace it. (Although keep training to lessen it if I can) and ultimately I am enough, for my husband, for my children and for the life I lead I am good enough. New home workout for mums! Working out at home has always been something I love. It is convenient. But it’s also hard to make yourself do something. Here is a quick home workout for mums you can do with things you have at home. If you don’t have Pilates ball use a kids play ball instead and if you don’t have elastic band use a pair of old tights or leggings, just tie them up around your legs. 1️⃣ Kneeling squat with ball squeeze x 15 2️⃣ Wall sit with ball squeeze 30 sec 3️⃣ Banded squat hold 30 sec Repeat the workout 3 to 5 times. Workout Teach your kids Do your job Manage the house Cook meals Do all of these things,at home, without a break! No complaining that you don’t have time now. You can’t leave the house so get it done! Stop Don’ workout, if it is too much for you right now Lower your expectations for your kids school work, do the bare minimum if thats all you can handle. Do the bare minimum at your job. Communicate with your boss if you are feeling overwhelmed with working and managing your kids. Stop cleaning up every hour. Give your kids small chores. Let that Sh*t go! Support local restaurants and get delivery or take out. You are doing your best with the resources you have! None of us know what we are doing in this time! No one has ever done this before! There is no handbook. And no one is going to come out of this with the best quarantine parent award. So love your kids Go for a walk by yourself Let them watch too much tv Take social media and news breaks Reach out to friends and let them know how you are REALLY doing. So how are you REALLY doing?

Last night in body weight bliss yoga it was all about the upper body and core. Neck, shoulders, arms, and chest. We opened, lengthened, and strengthened. It was so good! When I first learned I would be teaching this class via zoom I was apprehensive. I love meeting people in person. I like walking around the room. I like seeing how participants are breathing and reminding them of more specific cues. But I stepped out of my comfort zone and just said yes and did it. Learning as I go what I can do better to improve. Try this little flow and let me know how your upper body feels after. Really focus on lowering your shoulders away from your ears and lengthening your neck. Next weeks body weight bliss yoga will be focusing on the core and lower body. Think all the squats! We are being stretched beyond what any of us would have ever imagined. ⠀ ⠀ If your mental load felt high before all this, I can imagine it’s being tested a lot more these days. ⠀ ⠀ These are some tips I have for motivation, and trust me, even I’m feeling it at the moment. 😘⠀ ⠀ 1️⃣ Find the time of day you have the most energy and plan to workout then ⠀ 2️⃣ Set yourself a visual trigger such as leaving your workout clothes out and ready to go⠀ 3️⃣ Set a goal to work towards (eg to be able to do 10 push ups, run 5km, lose 10kg, etc)⠀ 4️⃣ Write out a daily mantra that works for you... one of my clients at the moment is using ‘I am a good role model’⠀ 5️⃣ Tell someone what you intend to do and when you are going to do - not just for accountability but for support ⠀ 6️⃣ Plan meals and snacks in advance so that you don’t get too hungry or reach for junk food ⠀ 7️⃣ Find your core reason or your ‘why’ which is outside yourself for those rough days eg I want to workout and be healthy so that I can be happy and patient with my children⠀ 8️⃣ Take a step back when you need to - rest and recovery is just as important as the work. Listen to your body and have rest days when you need to. ⠀ 9️⃣ Recognise when you need help. Us mums are often doing so much for everyone else that there is little left for us left in the tank sometimes we need help too, but it’s hard to admit. ⠀ 1️⃣0️⃣ Reverse your priorities. This is one of my favourite techniques that I do with my clients where we make sure that your needs are met before everyone else’s. By doing this you will be much happier. Think about how frustrating it is at the end of the day when you think ‘oh I didn’t do that again!’ ⠀ ⠀ Which of these techniques do you think would work for you? *Mummy Tummy Workout* A Gentle Low Impact workout, suitable for beginners / Post-natal exercise, Diastasis Recti (Ab separation) friendly. Roughly half of us women suffer Ab separation in pregnancy,these gentle exercises can help repair the gap and join the muscles back together to flatten that Mommy pouch🙌😊 ❌ Avoid situps,twists and crunches if you have Ab separation and the guidelines for postnatal exercise is 6 wks after a natural birth or 12 wks after C- section with doctors clearance,even if you are rearing to go to get back into ur fav Jean's take things slowly! Firstly warmup with some on-the-spot low impact movements like in the first video.Do each movement for 60 secs to get your body warmed up. *Leg slides × 10 each leg *Leg scoops x 10 each leg *Tabletop position toe taps × 10 each leg *Knee drops x 10 each leg *Bridges × 10 Repeat all exercises 3 times.
