Cheetahs – only an estimated 7,100 left in the wild globally. At Naankuse conserving these incredible cats is of prime concern, human-carnivore conflict mitigation a must. And if you haven’t had the honour of meeting him yet, here’s your chance… Having been kept as a pet, Kovu thankfully made it to the safety of the Naankuse Foundation Wildlife Sanctuary. As magnificent as these felines are, with habituating them a temptation some just can’t resist, they remain predator and not pet… deserving a life that caters to their innate instincts and enables them to retain a semblance of the wild. Kovu has become an outstanding ambassador cat, his previous life as a pet making his release an unfortunate impossibility. But at wildlife sanctuaries like Naankuse, those animals needing to remain in captivity live as naturally as possible, the shackles of domesticity removed. Goodbye, Dara’s darling! Coco Bella – for eight years you graced the Naankuse Foundation Wildlife Sanctuary, delighting us with your loveable antics… your addiction to Doritos, your ability to control menacing Milo, your avid occupation of the fire pits, your theft of food prep mielie pap and your ability to make a bed of any surface. You butted your way into every room (and every heart) and were the most magnificent member of the finance team. But, most of all, you were and always will be Dara’s baby girl. A sanctuary mascot has been lost, but distant pastures have gained the most precious pygmy goat. Rest in peace, Coco Bella. You’ll forever be a part of the Naankuse family. www.naankuse.com #naankuse #naankusefoundation #Cocobella #goats #RIP #naankusefamily #pygmygoats

As we continue to monitor this year's spotted hyaena cubs from both our north and south clans, we are finding that the north clan cubs are becoming very photogenic! With great daytime images like this, we hope to watch them grow over the years from tiny spotted fluff-balls to formidable key-stone carnivores. Did you know? that spotted hyaenas take up to 3 to 3.5 years to reach adulthood; meaning that females give birth to cubs only every 24 to 36 months, proving a very slow growth rate for their dwindling populations. Butter Garlic Naan🔥 one of my personal favourite ♥️ it's chewy and softness goes with all of your curries especially with Paneer Tikka Masala and Dal Makhani. It's smoky tandoori aroma and flavour is just perfect, not too less or dominant. This is how @zaika_thenorthernstreet serves it. Drought, something quite familiar to Namibia. Although, it’s never been quite this harsh! Therefore, we have to supplementary feed the animals in order to tide them over until we receive rain, pictured is a link full of lovely lucern for our animals. This is why any and all donations towards the Naankuse cause are welcome! Join us every Monday @ 13h30 and Fridays @ 8h30 as we head to N/a'ankuse to get a lesson in surviving without modern technology. The ancient San skills activity not only gives you the chance to meet The San people, but also to learn from them what it takes to live off the land in the most sustainable way . Take a walk through the bush, learn what to, and what not to eat, what is medicine and and what is poison. Learn how they communicate through song and dance instead of messenger and what'sapp, and learn how they only take exactly what they need from the bush, ensuring plenty for the other animals and the future generations @naankuse_foundation . . . 📸 @fellipeabreu_fotografia #repost #san #sanpeople #ancientskills #ancientpeople #lostculture #getcultured #windhoekdaytrips #wheninwindhoek #thingstodoinwindhoek #explorewindhoek #naankuse #culturaltours #sustainableliving #culturalexperience #meetthepeople #skillshare #fire #survival #lifeinthebush #chameleonsafaris

Happy #InternationalCheetahDay! Cheetahs are Africa’s most threatened big cat with numbers at only around 7,000. Cheetahs face threats such as habitat loss, human-wildlife conflict, the illegal wildlife trade, and poaching and hunting. Link in bio if you’d like to find out how you can help ensure a future for the world’s fastest land mammal.
