I GET IT. _ But what matters even more, at least for body weight and body composition change is CALORIES. _ Specifically, how many calories you consume versus how many you expend. _ The math would seem simple and logical, but it's really not... _ This isn't a post about math nor is it a post on how to figure out your calorie need. What's this post about then? It's about the fact that the "healthy" salad you're eating could potentially have MORE calories than TWO of these doughnuts at Krispy Kreme. _ TWO! _ I will also add that the SALAD actually has MORE fat than the doughnuts as well! _ How does it compare? _ Bacon Ranch Salad with Buttermilk Crispy Chicken: 28g fat Two Maple Ice Glazed Doughnuts: 22g _ "The salad would be more filling, though, and has more protein"... _ Yes, you're right. The salad would probably fill you up more, but being calorically equally, I think I'd enjoy eating TWO doughnuts a lot more. _ So much so that I'd probably be more likely to stick to my diet because it's something I actually enjoy... _ See, eating is about finding the easiest possible way for YOU to maintain a calorie deficit. That's it. If it consists of a doughnut every now and then and you're still able to make progress while feeling more content. Bone Broth Anyone? STUFFING Just because it’s a fan favorite doesn’t mean it’s not going to get called out as one of the worst Thanksgiving sides! While stuffing seems to be a love-it-or-hate-it side, you’re going to face it at one (if not every) Thanksgiving table, and that’s probably not a super healthy thing. You’re essentially loading up on bread, sodium, butter, and (sometimes) sausage when you’re adding this to your plate. 🦃 If this is a staple in your Thanksgiving plane, make sure to keep an eye on the fat and sodium content as you make it. Your portion can provide a day’s worth of each if you don’t! If you make stuffing at home, be mindful of adding butter or pan drippings as those ingredients boost the saturated fat, consider using wheat bread and apples rather than white bread and cranberries! 🦃 8. GREEN BEAN CASSEROLE 🦃 This dish truly only makes an appearance at most tables twice per year, Thanksgiving + Christmas. The typical Green Bean Casserole bathes the one healthy ingredient in a heavy cream sauce before and topping it with buttered breadcrumbs, cheese, or both! 🦃 To boot, most of the ingredients aside from the green beans themselves are processed as well as high in sodium and fat. *Detox Dinner Inspiration* Asian Raw broccoli Salad with tofu & peanut curry sauce 🍃 . I used broccoli heads, raw Cherry tomatoes Chopped kale Tofu of your choice Taugé Red cabbage Avocado . sauce 1/2 cup crunchy peanut butter 1-2 TB yacon syrup 2 TB curry powder 1/4 cup almond milk chili powder Sea Salt & pepper to taste . cook notes: I used raw broccoli, it just has a better crunch, and can hold up to the sauce much better. If you prefer to cook your broccoli first, then go ahead ✌🏻 Cut the avocado in half, remove pit. . Cut the tofu into cubes and bake in coconut oil until brown. . I made my sauce very thick, if you want it thinner just add in more almond milk. . I love the taste of curry so I added in 2 TB, you can easily use just 1 TB. . for the sauce: Mix all ingredients for the sauce in a bowl, stir well, give it a taste-test and see what it needs. Long post but worth it. Let's get real about something, #depression sucks. I suffer from it. Many people do. If you don't, be greatful. 🥬Greens. 🥦 When we are depressed one of the hardest things to do is eat well and take care of our bodies. Personally all I want is cupcakes/chocolate. 🍫🧁 I give zero fu*ks about my health, appearance and most of all what sugar does to your body... That being said, you need to care😳. Shoving sugar down the hatch, thinking its not going to impact you, you're lying to yourself. 💭Gut health and mental health are sisters, maybe even twins. The world I see is filled with unhappiness So many seek comfort in food, but in reality most food eaten is high calorie card board, which serves no purpose whatsoever.
