Everyone loves desert, fact! But it's very easy to take in gazillions of calories and sugar with most traditional puds. My dad is currently on my one month kickstart plan and keen to stick rigidly to the Nutrition (hence he's lost 8.5 pounds in two weeks!) I therefore made some mini meringues served with some chopped berries and either a dollop of kefir or creme fraiche...a modified Eton mess of sorts! A lot of coaches don't like using bodyweight to track progress.⁣ ⠀⁣ They'll say it's unreliable (which if used wrong, is true) and just ends up frustrating their clients. 🤬⁣ ⠀⁣ And for some people, it might make sense to forego the scale... But that does NOT mean weighing yourself is bad, wrong, or worthless.⁣ ⠀⁣ Truth is, your body weight can be a fantastic tool for analyzing progress, especially when used correctly alongside other forms of progress tracking like measurements and photos.⁣ ⠀⁣ But here's the problem…⁣ ⠀⁣ Most people don't know how to "read" the scale.⁣ ⠀ ⁣ They'll see a small jump and think they gained fat (which didn't happen).⁣ ⠀⁣ Or they'll get excited about a big drop — often called a "whoosh" — and then get discouraged when that number goes back up or stays the same for a few days.⁣ ⁣ Your weight will NOT go down linearly day-to-day or week-to-week.⁣ ⠀⁣ For most people, it'll look like this:⁣ ⠀⁣ They'll have a big drop in weight ("whoosh")… It'll go up a little… Hold steady for a bit… And the process will repeat.⁣ ⠀⁣ For some people, this "Whoosh-Up-Hold" cycle happens every week.⁣ ⠀⁣ For others, it happens monthly.⁣ ⠀⁣ It all depends on YOUR body.⁣ ⠀ ⁣ My advice? —> Use the scale to track your progress, but understand how it works, and make sure you're using it the right way.⁣ ⠀⁣ Here's how 📝:⁣ ⠀⁣ Take your weight every day — FIRST thing in the morning, BEFORE eating/drinking anything, and AFTER using the bathroom.⁣ ⠀⁣ Once you have 3-4 weeks worth of data, start comparing your week 1 average to week 2, your week 2 average to week 3, etc.⁣ ⁣ 🖊 @cartergood

▫️ So my weakness has always been my overall mobility. ▫️ Sometimes it felt ok, a lot of times not so much. ▫️ Let’s change that! ▫️ And I am taking you with me on my stretching journey to become more mobile - the big goal is the split! ▫️ You have to have goals, otherwise it feels like the whole process has no purpose. ▫️ I have started a few days ago, this is my day 7 and I am already feeling better. Consistency, as always is key to everything. ▫️ Here are a few of the exercises I did today: ▫️ seated leg extension - try to fully extend your leg and keep your back straight (I am having trouble with it yet) - 30sec each side ▫️ bent over floor touch - keep your knees fully locked, try not to bend them and touch the floor - 60sec ▫️ lateral lunge with toe touch - keep your feet parallel initially and then fully extend your leg to touch your toes - 60sec ▫️ calf raises - up and down the front of your feet for a nice calf raise - 60sec ▫️ hip extension - front knee right above your front foot and pulse a little down/forward - 45sec each side ▫️ seated toe touch - keep your working leg extended at all times and touch your toes - 45 sec each side ▫️ butterfly stretch - try to move your knees down to the ground as much as you can, hold a few seconds then release and go again - 60sec ▫️ These are just a few select exercises, all in all my daily routine lasts about 15min. ▫️ There is more to come. What causes weight loss? Is it what you eat? 🍎🥦🍟 Is it how much exercise you do? 🚴🏊‍♀️🧗‍♀️ It’s both! To reduce weight you need a calorie deficit (consume less calories than you burn). Restrictive diets cut out certain foods or meals hence reducing calorie intake and cause weight loss. But are restrictive diets effective in the long term? Generally not, they cut foods out without suitable replacements but once the diet is over old habits and behaviours resurface. The weight that was lost comes back and you end up at square one again. So it seems the diet didn’t work that time so you try it again or you try something else and the cycle repeats. Rather than just restricting what is consumed and dealing with the physical effects of weight loss could there be a better way? However motivation is often only on the surface and high when you begin to establish a habit or routine. Anyone can go to the gym or eat healthily that one time... However meaningful change happens when you imbed that behaviour into your identity. Here’s an example... Two people, both trying to quit smoking are offered a cigarette by a colleague at work. The first says “no thank you, I’m trying to pack up” The second says “no thank you, I’m not a smoker” One has an outcome based identity that sounds shaky and about instant willpower and based on the motivation in the current moment... One has embedded it into their identity! It’s not who they are anymore! Doesn’t matter how they feel. Go back to the health and fitness side of things... You can go to the gym and eat healthily on occasion and try to use your initial motivation to keep you going Or you can identify as a gym goer and let it become part of your lifestyle and routine. You may not be super motivated to go but it’s who you are now. Training and eating well are part of your identity.
