Just a few decades ago there were around 500,000 lions now there are 20,000. Habitat loss and the Asian Traditional Medicine industry are responsible. Lion bones are in ever decreasing demand due to the collapse of Tiger populations by the hand of man. Sadly it would seem Lions are next.   #africanamazing #animals_illife #traveljvt #onlyinafrica #ig_shotz_nature #onlyafrica #wildlife_wanderers #splendid_animals #animallovers #wildlife_seekers #animalelite #majestic_wildlife #exclusive_animals #animal_supershots #featured_wildlife #shots_of_animals #thenatures1 #marvelouz_animals #bestnatureshot #amazing_shots #canonaustralia #igscglobal #bestcaptureglobal #igscglobal #bigcatsdiary #bigcat #animal111135 #world_bestanimal #africansafariconnection #bigcatsancturary

This is how you get a haircut in a Lake Turkana village. It’s about 7 am, and the forecast for today looks good. While I stood there, I couldn’t help but think “wow, what a wonderfully chill way to wake up.” No two-hour traffic jam to the office, then in between meetings and deadlines attempting to squeeze in your haircut at lunch or after work, when you’ll likely be back in your metal box rushing home to make dinner or pay the maid you hired to cook and care for your children. Oh, and this haircut is free. We underestimate rural Africa because to our western standards they’re “poor”, but wouldn’t you believe…we sure have a lot to learn from them about how to live life proper. #africatravel #africaphotography #mamaafrica #travelafrica #africarising #wanderlustofafrica #checkoutafrica #pinafrica #motherland #instaafrica #myafrica #amazingafrica #loveafrica #africatotheworld #africanphotography #dailyafrica #africanpeople #africanamazing #onlyafrica #wanderwisely #stayandwander #theglobewanderer #stayandwanderer #theglobewanderers #kenya🇰🇪 #visitkenya @magicalkenya #natgeo #natgeoyourshot #natgeotraveler at Lake Turkana

Now that the year is rolling around my mind is starting to wander. I think of long days travelling around with camera in hand. Although the days are never tiring when I am out there exploring I find the thoughts of times on a plane tend to drag me down. The excitement always pings when the plane touches down & the doors open up. New faces, new places, new experiences & landscapes always wait once I can escape the big flying tin can. This year there is a lot planned & I look forward to seeing old friends, visiting many parks & showing a number of photographers a thing or two in Namibia, Botswana & Ethiopia. I still have availability if you are interested in joining me in Ethiopia, but I am sure those places will fill rather quick, if you want further info it’s up in my bio. I have already sold out all my dates for Namibia in 2020, but I am already planning for 2021. If you don’t have your name on my mail list, you may miss a place on that years departures also as they tend to go as soon as they are announced. My mail list always gets the jump as soon as the trips open. If you have read this far & can only wish to travel with me to learn a thing or two, I would like to thank you for following my work. Your likes & comments are always appreciated & hopefully soon I will have some books and exhibitions to share with you all soon. Till then I have a lot of work to do! at Omo Valley Ethiopia

This old man was captured outside St. George's Cathedral, in Addis Ababa, during the celebrations that on every 26th January are held to commemorate the martyrdom of St. George. That was a unique chance for a glimpse into the rituals and practices of the Ethiopian orthodox church. at Addis Ababa, Ethiopia

Maasai Giraffe, Maasai Mara. Our vehicle was stopped near 2 big, make lions who had taken down a buffalo. We quietly snapped away while keeping a respectful distance. Looking out the other side of the Landcruiser I spotted this lone giraffe traversing the horizon in the distance. This gives us some sense of the scale of the Mara. Adult giraffes are around 5.8m tall. To give this image a sense of movement I tried to time my shots to when the giraffes legs were astride. This gesture tells the viewer the animal is moving whereas clicking at a moment when the legs were closer together might imply the giraffe was static. Always keep an eye out for these little gestures which can bring a bit of life to a photograph. I recently got the opportunity to see a leopard chilling in the tree peacefully. After around 20 min of watching him, he got annoyed by the camera shutter and decided to majestically jump down and casually walk away like I didn’t even exist. at Kruger National Park

MAGICAL ZANZIBAR 🌴. Who wants to visit this magical island? A holiday choice which lets you discover atmospheric Stone Town and its history, but with the emphasis on serious relaxation. With five nights and four full days in the resort of Nungwi, there really is ample time to kick-back and relax during your stay – ideal if you are adding this tour onto a safari on the mainland. Start the itinerary in Stone Town, rich in history. At first sight it is a cute sight how the bay elephant is protected by the herd, but whoever looks better will see something terrible. The little elephant has a snare hanging around his neck. Often these elephants get stuck in the snares that place poachers. #natgeo100contest Elephants are interesting animals. Their size is awesome, and their strength is incredible. They are intelligent and affectionate beings. Amazingly, even with their large size, they can walk silently. You might not even notice them passing by! . . . . . #exclusive_wildlife #african_portraits #africa #wildlife #wildgeography #natgeo #nationalgeographic #wildlife_perfection #nature_perfection #wildlifeplanet #animalelite #wildeyesa #EarthCapture #NikonNL #wildlifeaddicts #wildlife_in_bl #wildlifeart #wildlifephotographer #zoomnl #joysafaribay #nfnl #WPY55 #wildlifephotographeroftheyear #animals #WNFnederland @featured_wildlife #yourshotphotographer @wildgeography @wildlife.hd #africanimals #onlyafrica

How do you tell the story of a landscape which is disappearing? —— I think it's a question a lot of us photographers and story tellers are dealing with right now because it's not a unique story. It's a ubiquitous story.  Whether it's oceans being invaded by plastics, or shrinking polar regions, or agriculture and livestock pushing out wildlife in Africa, it's a story which is sweeping across our planet. —— The photographers who came before us, those whom we looked up to when we were growing up, were photographing things for the first time.  They brought distant worlds home for us and we could learn from their experiences.  These images had landmark significance because they were things we’d never seen before.  In contrast, I think our generation of photographers are photographing things for potentially the last time.  In a span of less than a century, our global population has grown so much that these things which were brought to light in the 50s, 60s and 70s, are now vanishing as quickly as they were found. —— What do we do when these landscapes are gone?  Is it enough to create a record of them? Or are we compelled to do more to save them?  Here, a single mangrove sits isolated on the shores of Gazi Bay in Kenya.  Over-Exploitation to meet rising wood requirements is the main threat to Kenya’s 54,000 hectares of mangrove forests. While many rehabilitation programs exists, Kenya’s mangroves are disappearing at an alarming rate, almost 3 times faster than global forests losses. #natgeo100contest at Kenya

Getting ready to settle or getting ready to move? There is certainly a determined focus about this lion's expression, but the moment could be read as two movements. He is either going to lie down and settle, or he is getting up to challenge his duties as a dominant male lion! Whilst I know exactly what he was doing, as I was with him and his brothers in the moment, I feel that this image is exactly where I find myself in life. There are things I need to achieve, there are challenges which seem insurmountable, and there are only a few elements that I can control. Do I take a breath, or do a I get up and face the storm? This lion is about to run head first into one of his biggest challenges - a group of strong and healthy buffalo bulls. He is choosing this, he knows that there is a massive element of risk, but the rewards are huge too! He has the support of his coalition, the confidence of life experience and the attitude of a leader! However, he did not get up and charge at this challenge. He paused, reconnected with those he would need to trust during the task, and gathered all the relevant information about his opportunity. A successful hunt is not a fleeting moment of luck, it comes from years of preparation and learning. It includes highs, lows, gains and losses. On this night, he failed! His brothers failed! They did not meet their target! However, they did not lie and rest. They roared! They advertised their dominance of the area. They immediately addressed another task, and did so with all the energy required. We all have challenges, we all have failures... What do we do immediately afterwards? at Klein's Camp
