I remember in high school how excited I was when we finally got access to VENDING MACHINES!. . Like, wha???? "I can buy soda and candy at school and my mom can't do anything about it?? Quick, somebody give me a quarter." . And thus began a 4-year tradition of Diet Coke and Mike&Ikes for lunch every day. . Pretty sure there were some french fries with ranch and ketchup on the regular too. . Eventually, I figured out that all that extra sugar probably wasn't the best long term health plan. For a lot of people, things like soda, sweet tea, sweetened coffee, mountain dew, beer and wine are a source of added sugar and calories in the diet. . We might be someone who eats healthy, but consumes excessive liquid calories and added sugar, which can get in the way of our fitness and health goals. #Habit 17 - Don't Drink Your Calories Three reasons to consider cutting back a bit on sweet and high calorie beverages: 1) Liquid calories don't keep us as full as solid food. . 2) It's super easy to over-consume, which can lead to sneaky weight gain over time. 3) Cutting out sugar sweetened or high calorie beverages is one of the easiest ways to cut calories without eating less food. Also, soda is great, but cavities not so much. . Plus, sweetened drinks don't come with all the wonderful and varied nutritional benefits of whole foods. . This was the best s'more ever! The coals were perfect, the chocolate was warmed on a piece of wood next to the fire, and the marshmallow was toasted to a golden brown with a gooey center! πŸ˜‹ So Good! I'm making good, healthy eating choices while camping, but, s'mores just have to have happen, because, well, camping! LOL! The great thing is that I was able to have just one! A year ago, that wouldn't have happened. It would have been at least 3 - every night! 😜 When I get back, I'll be starting Shift Shop! (Remember that speeded up workout video I posted a few weeks ago from the sneak peek?). The whole program has been released, and I'm so excited to start with my challenge group on Monday, July 24th! Timehop told me today that I took this little guy to the doctor two years ago to figure out what was going on with his health. Quinton has a very selective diet. He lives off of cereal and pb&j sandwiches and he eats absolutely no vegetables or meat. At first I thought he was just picky and he would grow out of it. The doctor ran labs, everything came back "normal" and he told me to just give him protein smoothies. That was fun for awhile and then he started an aversion to those as well. While his levels may have come back normal, I knew it was not normal to have such a selective diet that only consisted of processed sugary foods. I finally found found an article online written by someone who was going through the same things with their child, except they had a diagnosis...ARFID or Avoidant/Restrictive Food Intake Disorder. After about a year of researching the disorder, joining online support groups and emailing doctors, we got an appointment with a pediatric specialist who works with ARFID cases! We went last week and it was refreshing to talk to a doctor who didn't think you were crazy or didn't dismiss my concerns. It was disheartening to hear that your child is borderline malnourished though. His new doctor recommended we start him on Pediasure twice a day until we meet with the Nutritionist and Psychologist in a few weeks. He has had a hard time choking these down, not to mention a month supply is well over $100. I decided to take a look at my very own X Factor vitamin! The labels had similar nutrition facts except my daily multivitamin was better and all natural. He would only need one capsule a day and one bottle would last him 2 months for a fraction of the cost!! We mixed it in his chocolate milk today and it was a hit! I was challenged to do the Shift Shop sneak peek workout today. After a long day of traveling back home across the state, I just wanted to relax and put up my feet. However, never one to back down from a challenge, I decided to do it. Boy am I glad I did! Wow! What a workout! There were times during the workout when I wasn't sure I could keep going, but I modified if I needed and kept going. I love this quote from Chris Downing: "You can accomplish anything you want as long as you believe and push yourself." Six months ago, I would not have posted a video of me working out, even in time lapse format. Six months ago I had a magic number in my head of where I wanted to be when I got married. My wedding is six weeks away, and I am 2 pounds away from that magic number! Yay! πŸ˜€ I found myself thinking, β€œWhat next?” I was wondering what's my next number, what do I want it to be? And then all of a sudden it hit me that I don't need a magic number anymore! I am incredibly happy with where I am on this journey that I've been on since January! I've lost almost 40 pounds and I feel great! I am following a great nutrition plan and exercising. It is so liberating to know that I don't even need a magic number to be happy! I am totally happy with where I am and going on my journey. I work with a great group of people who are so supportive of me and help me with my goals! Do I have a way to go?
