First attempt of M51, whirlpool galaxy with a newtonian telescope. Took a few weeks to learn to collimate (I know now why experts recommend getting a refractor initially) and balance it, but I think I'm slowly getting the hang of it. Conditions were not good with strong winds and fast moving clouds in this one and the stars are much fatter than they should be, and there isn't as much detail in the galaxy as there could have been. I love this galaxy so I'll be attempting this again later in better conditions and with improved technique. Details: LLRGB composite, with total 2 hours of integration time, stacked with deep sky stacker, processed with startools and Lightroom. Guided with a 60mm guide scope, ssag pro mono & phd2. The scope was the 8" Orion astrograph on a used Orion Atlas. . . . . . . #astrophotography #m51 #deepspace #deepsky #astronomy #space #universe #universetoday #optcorp #highpointscientific #startools #deepskystacker #astro #stars #nightsky #galaxy #astrophoto #astroworld #astrophotographer #astronomik #oriontelescopes #astrophotographytool

Telescopes have been "the" instrument of astronomy and astrophysics, and have always been associated with space since we learned about astronomy in our childhoods. We have been able to look at other planets in the solar system from our backyards, as well as perform groundbreaking, revolutionary science with telescopes in orbit around the earth. These classic technological innovations in science have allowed us to gaze towards the heavens above and learn more about our place in the universe. The simple kind telescope you can find an astronomy enthusiast or a university using are the reflecting telescope and the refracting telescope. However the refractor is pretty much outdated at this point and is rarely used , since it's not as afficient as the reflector. Refracting telescopes work like an eyeball; they take in starlight at one end and then focus it into an eyepiece. The design is relatively simple, but when it gets big, everything gets cumbersome, such as with the heavy lenses of the telescope having to be placed all the way at the tip, as you can see in the photo. Reflecting telescopes on the other hand are the standard in astrophysics research. These telescopes utilize mirrors in the mechanics of the telescope to essentially redirect starlight into a focus often on the side of the telescope, reducing the size, and put most of the weight of the telescope towards the bottom. ☀️SAJ Universe🔭 Thanks @astrophysicsfeed #thetelescopes #refractor #reflector #télescope #hubbletelescope #butterflytelescope #télescope #mobiletelescope #telescopephotography #spacetelescope #radiotelescope #spitzerspacetelescope #celestrontelescopes #oriontelescopes #telescopebutterfly #starobservation #planetobservation #deepskyobservation #object #focus #lenses #mirrors #starlight #thesajuniverse

NGC 7000, The North America Nebula The North America Nebula is a large H-II region located in the constellation Cygnus, just below Deneb, one of the stars in the Summer Triangle. While extremely easy to get to, this object's low surface brightness makes it extremely challenging to see through a telescope. In wide fields/binoculars (and with the unaided eye in dark skies), you should be able to see the nebula as a hazy patch. The North America Nebula is huge in the night sky, roughly 120 x 100 arc minutes (you can fit four full moons within those dimensions), making it a great spot for wide field images or high quality mosaics. This nebula is located some 1500 light-years from Earth and sports a diameter of roughly 20 light-years. This is a stellar nursery, where the densest amount of star formation being at the "Mexico-shaped" region at the bottom, called "Cygnus Wall". While I used a single filter and a color camera to produce this image (L-eNhance), I was able to meticulously play around with the colors to achieve a balance similar to a Hubble Pallet image (I call this a Simulated Hubble Pallet False Color Image). In addition, I reprocessed this photo in true color to show a comparison between the two. One of my first dreams in life was to own a decent telescope after owning my first cheap refractor telescope as a child..this is a mid range budget scope called the Orion starbast 4.5 in reflector on an altazimuth mount...i purchased some upgraded plossl eye peices and a higher quality Barlow lens and a cheap cell phone mount to take some pics of planets and hopefully some deep space objects. #amateurastronomy #oriontelescopes #astronomy

This is NGC 7023 the Iris Nebula located 1300 light years away in Cepheus. The bright blue central region is lit up by the bright young star at the center and the whole central Iris region spans about 6 light years across. To give you a sense of scale in the night sky, this image is about the same width as 5 full moons. This image was a particular challenge given the nature of the object type, a reflection nebula, and the typically dark skies needed for these objects. As you can see in the second picture, which was taken with my cellphone at around 2:45am, the english skies aren't particularly dark right now. With that in mind, it took me 6 nights, 417 individual images, and a total of 13.9hrs to make this one. Each night I was able to squeeze in about 2.5 - 3hrs from around 11:30pm - 3am depending on clouds and such. Had another crack at some summer nebulae using my new Optolong L-Enhance filter! This filter definitely gets rid of so much skyglow in my bortle 7 skies and I recommend it if shooting using any color camera.⁣ ⁣ The Eagle Nebula which is designated as Messier 16 in star catalogues nests itself within the constellation of Serpens, soaring just above the Omega Nebula and many other deep sky objects in this region which join billions of unresolvable stars glowing in unison from the Milky Way Core.⁣ ⁣ Messier 16 is one tough bird to tame, it is rich in Hydrogen Alpha which is good news for Astrophotographers that own cameras lacking an internal low pass filter. Unfortunately for me, the Low pass filter is still intact within my DSLR’s body, effectively slashing the sensitivity to Hydrogen Alpha to around a quarter of the sensor’s true capability. This doesn’t mean Hydrogen Alpha rich targets can’t be captured with a stock DSLR, Just needs more integration and patience when processing. ⁣ ⁣ This was my first attempt ever shooting the Eagle Nebula! Stayed up until 8 am for this one… only got 52 minutes of data as clouds rolled in from the South. ⁣ ⁣ Tech Stuff:⁣ ⁣ *Orion Sirius EQ-G Equatorial GOTO Mount ⁣ *Skywatcher ED80/600 Doublet Apochromatic refractor F/7.5⁣ *Skywatcher 0.85x reducer flattener (510mm f/6.38)⁣ *Stock Canon Rebel T5 (1200D) With Optolong L enhance filter in imaging train.⁣ *Asi 120 MC-S Guide camera with Orion 50mm guide scope, guided with Phd2⁣ *Data Acquired with NINA ⁣ *15 210s ISO 800- 52 minutes total⁣ *18 darks⁣ *15 flats⁣ *150 Bias ⁣ *Processed in Pixinsight and photoshop cc by me ⁣ ⁣ #astronomy #astrophotography #Messier #eaglenebula #milkyway #youresa #universetoday #opteam #highpointscientific #science #telescope #oriontelescopes #puremichigan #pillarsofcreation #nasa #space #stars #optolong #longexposure #nebula #DSO #deepspace

The Pinwheel Galaxy again (Messier 101). Another attempt at figuring out the equipment. For beginners, I think a good way to improve your skills is to select a target, or a few targets that are somewhat easy to image. M101 is a good example, as well as M51 (Whirlpool Galaxy). My reasoning is that there are many parameters to imaging a deep sky object (polar alignment, tracking, guiding, corrections for optical aberrations, camera settings, control software, etc.) and selecting an easy target will help you benchmark your equipment and become more intuitive. Furthermore, most of those parameters have their own knobs to tweak so it can be a bit overwhelming if your expectations aren't properly managed. This is one of the best images I have taken and it isn't really all that impressive. However, my main objectives for this session were getting better with camera settings and control software. It all will need more work but much of the fun in this hobby lies in figuring things out. Clear skies! #astrophotography #nightsky #pinwheelgalaxy #galaxy #messierobjects #constellation #ursamajor #newtonian #telescope #explorescientific #oriontelescopes #altair #zwo #qhyccd

I put together a collage of a few astrophotography images I’ve done over the past year or so. Hope you like them. It’s hard to believe I’ve only been doing astrophotography for a little under a year and have learned so much and still have so much more to learn. At 61 years old, I might be a little late to the dance, but I’m determined to make the most of it. My next phase is to learn how to auto guide and get a dedicated ZWO camera if I ever get the funds to buy what I need. I need a sponsor...lol! @highpointscientific @oriontelescopes @skywatcherusa @optcorp @astro_photography_ @astrobackyard @astronomy_eye @astronomypicturesdaily @ericwfmj #highpointscientific #oriontelescopes #optcorp #astronomy #astrophotography #night #nightphotography #nightsky #milkyway #photography #photooftheday #nikon #nikonphotography #oriontelescopes #skywatchertelescope

I FINALLY went and got adapters to connect my camera to the telescope. Every picture I’ve taken of space was done by holding my phone up to the telescope eyepiece, which was a massive pain in the ass. lol Here’s a video I took of some birbs on a neighbor’s birb feeder from a few hundred feet away through the telescope. Just realized I never posted this image I finished the other week. This is IC 5070, or otherwise known as the Pelican Nebula and is located 1800 light years away in the constellation Cygnus. It is also a particularly active region in terms of star formation as well as changing gas clouds due to the star formation. The second image is a starless version where i processed out all of the stars from the final image.
