B R E A T H I N G - M O N I T O R S Technology can make our lives easier, safer and can keep us healthier. But can all these technological advances also induce more panic and worry than we need? Take baby oxygen &/or breathing monitors for example. Do these help or hinder our ability to parent? These monitors are able to safely (and relatively reliably) monitor your babies oxygen levels, and breathing when they are sleeping. So it sounds like a no-brainer for every parent to have one for their child right? In my opinion, it all depends on a few things: For children with known medical conditions, these monitors can be a lifesaver for parents to be notified of a situation that they could have potentially missed. In these situations it can give parents the reassurance, comfort and ability to sleep more calmly at night and get on with everyday living. Some children are discharged from hospital with monitors for this exact reason. For these families, these technologies are a life saver & mean they can go home earlier than was previously possible. But what about babies withOUT a diagnosed medical condition? Wouldn’t it be safer to have these types of monitors ‘just in case?’ For some parents - yes, it will reduce a lot of fear & worry. For others - it will increase their anxiety. These monitors are great, but they are also just a tool. They cannot act for you, they can malfunction just like any other piece of technology, & they only work when used correctly. For some families, when they hear the alarm, absolute panic will rush over them. The alarm may just be due to the probe not sitting correctly, or your baby has positioned themselves in a way that the monitor cannot interpret the data. I am incredibly thankful that we have the option to use these devices in our home to help keep our little ones safe. But just ask yourself if it will help, or hinder your ability to parent. If they are inducing more panic than calm for you, perhaps they are not needed. But for some, they are literally lifesaving devices. Both opinions are completely valid, & I think there are no right or wrong perspectives. What do you think? Does your family use breathing monitors?

Stressful situations are wired for us to act on the flight or fight response , & depending on any childhood trauma it could be triggered even more easily. Also we can admit we just run out of patience sometimes. But our reactions can be scary to kids, where they learn this is how adults react to stress. If we want to be able to calm our kids down we must first learn how to calm ourselves down, it’s our reaction that will either make it worse or actually help them through it. . . -Before reacting remind yourself you’re the adult, your child is having a hard time & only calming the chaos instead of joining it will help.- . . - Take a deep breath, count to 10, this helps the first fight reaction pass- . . -Run the first automatic angry thoughts to yourself instead of out loud. Then think how would you feel if someone said these things to you?Let these thoughts pass, name and feel them but don’t act on them, there is power in the choice not to react. . . -Is whatever they did that big of a deal? Most of the time it’s not, the yelling isn’t worth it. Think what you’re about to say.- . . -Go into another room for a minute . If you’re already overwhelmed or something else is bothering you your reaction will be bigger than necessary. Sit and decompress for a minute. Take deep breaths, remember what you say matters.- . . -While you’re in there text & Vent to a friend or someone who will understand.- . . -Instead of “what were you thinking” ➡️ “ I’m going to help you through this”- . . -Instead of “Go to your room!” ➡️ “I’m here if you need me, do you need a hug”- . . -Instead of “Stop crying already” ➡️”it’s ok to cry, I understand you’re sad/upset.”- . . -Instead of “stop it already”➡️ “do you need a break?”- . . -Instead of “Look what you did, what a mess!”➡️ “Looks like you had fun, how can we clean it up.”- . . -Instead of “No __ for a week!”➡️ “I see you’re having a hard time, let’s solve this together. Let’s take a break.”- . . - Instead of yelling at them go into another room and yell in there. When you’re ready, come out & offer a hug, let them know you’re there for them. They will automatically feel better/safe knowing you’re going to help them through it.-

Serious mum guilt have been felt this last week. Spencer and I have both been poorly, being pregnant and a Mum to a toddler is hard, mix in the added pressure of home improvements, appointments and the run up to Christmas and you have a stress catalyst. I am not getting to do as much with Spencer as I would like, he’s not getting out of the house as much as he would like. However, today I put housework on hold, wrapped Spencer up and we went and looked around the Christmas market, bought a bauble for the tree and had a ride on the bus. He loved it as did I. Sometimes life has a way of getting on top of you. When that happened, I like to strip it back and focus on what important, time! You can’t buy time but you can give it, that what Spencer needed from me this week, and he got it. To the working Mums, how you juggle it all is nothing short of a miracle. To the stay at home Mum, you make a difference and doing a great job. To the Dads who work, support and love their families you are appreciated and loved. To the single parents, you are enough and you got this. One thing that unites us, parenting is hard! So give yourself a break, each day is a new challenge and a chance to learn. #time #stayathomemumlife #mumguilt #mumguiltisreal #parentsunite #toddlerlife #toddleractivities #myboy

Thank you so very much to everyone that came out to our 3rd Annual Have A Holly Jolly Christmas Party! It was a blast! The hot.chocolate station was a hit I'd say but hands down it was an appearance by the big guy himself Santa Claus who stole the show. First he took some time to do photos with all the kids in his nice list and then he lead us all through a magical storytime experience. I can't wait to do it again next year! Thank you to buybuy Baby for your awesome prize donations and to @hellobebebirth for capturing the Christmas magic for my families❤ And to @bellybootcamp.clarington and @bellybootcamp.pickering for gifting 2 lucky mamas with class passes! ..but cmon. I’m feeling touched out, mentally exhausted & overwhelmed. Even knowing everything that I do I still question myself on why I’m feeling this way. As a homeschooling stay at home twin parent I have every right to be tired AF. . . As an introvert I feel even more drained after outings, just being around people in general. At the playground I might look socially awkward (I am) or mean with my RBF but honestly I’m just uncomfortable & wondering when I can take my bra off & go back to my safe space (home). Anti social is my game. . . I feel like most days I’m just counting down until bedtime to sit in silence without anyone needing anything from me. 2 1/2 more hours. . . Where are my introverts at?? What do you struggle with the most? . . . . . . . . . . #introvertparenting #introvertmom #introvertmomproblems #introvertstruggles #introvertproblems #parentingishard #parenthood_moments #motherhoodrising #honestmom #honestmomconfessions #momconfessions #antisocialsocialclub #momgroupdropout #parentingstruggles #homeschoolmom #introvertmemes #introvertlife #introvertmotherhood #tiredasamother #tiredmom #motherhoodinspired #inspiredbymotherhood #parentingquotes #unschoolers #rawmotherhood #stayathomemom #momlifebelike #introvertmoms #parentsunite

This is me and my 2 girls. On the left is Violet and she’s 6 and on the right is April who is 20 months. They’re the most amazing girls and keep life interesting. I also work 30hrs per week and this has led me to feel overwhelmed at times. 2 children, work, house to tidy, washing to do.... the list goes on! I know people will relate and I know it can impact our mental health so I thought I’d give myself a place to share it all and hopefully some likeminded people along the way. #workingparent #motherofgirls #drama #unconditionallove #theyaresoworthit #parentsunite #mentalhealth

Time outs are bad now?? Let me explain. A time-out is just a temporary inadequate solution. It closes the door to communication where kids feel judged, shamed , ignored & therefore shutdown. We are saying I don’t want to deal with your feelings, go sit in isolation & deal with them yourself. As adults we are still coping with our own emotions therefore kids would definitely need help with theirs. Isolating does not help this. . . -First accept & acknowledge feelings without judgment- -Name the feeling- -Provide empathy on how they’re feeling. “You are mad because I won’t buy this toy for you, I understand.”- -Teach them how to calm themselves. i.e take deep breaths, count to ten, etc- - Offer a hug. During a tantrum laying & screaming on the floor during toddlerhood I have laid on the floor next to them to get on their level and hugged through it. This has worked but then again it might not always.- -Put yourself on timeout. I have had to do this MANY times, two toddlers was ROUGH. Before you react take a deep breath & walk to another room to collect yourself first allowing yourself to react & help them better than you would have by yelling or sending them to a corner. I have also sat in my room for a couple minutes to decompress & think of solutions with better thinking/focus.- - Take a break. If they’re having a hard time getting through homework or whatever is causing being upset , take a break. Go outside for some fresh air, go for a walk, let them play, read a book to them, etc- -Talk about different solutions together.- -Listen & look at it through your child’s perspective. Be who they need while going through a tough time. Help them calm the chaos instead of joining it.- -Let them explain their feelings through puppets, stuffed animals , etc. might help them feel more brave to admit feelings. - - Sometimes overtired affects behavior, talk about it after a nap. - . . Feel free to add what has worked for you. Parents need to stick together!

⁣ This photo pretty much sums up my family’s life since August 2017 (insert shrug of defeat here).⁣ It was like getting taken over by new management 😂⁣ ⁣ As much as I, and possibly many other parents, hate to admit it, the babies are the bosses of the household. All you can do, most times, is let them do what they do, and watch with pride because they’re thriving and growing. You can watch with a little bit of confusion and wonder what in the world is going on in their tiny heads when they’re cuttin’ up. You keep a watchful eye to ensure that in the midst of their exploration of this big, wide world around them, they’re safe. ⁣ ⁣ Does anyone else out there have that one child or a couple that came in like a wrecking ball and made you wave your white flag of surrender?⁣ Let me hear about it!!⁣ ⁣ ⁣ ⁣ ⁣ ⁣ ⁣ ⁣ ⁣ ⁣ ⁣ PC: | @febbers

@ministry.wife.life

Today Oaks had the last of his doctor appointments for awhile. The last 7 weeks have been full of appointments for his weight, tongue and lip ties, circumcision, and nursing issues. And that’s all for a HEALTHY baby. This season has made my heart ache for the moms and dads with kiddos who are sick, battling disease, or injured. It’s made me so grateful for 3 healthy kids, and has been a good reminder that you just don’t know what others may be struggling with - everyone has a story. When I get frustrated or overwhelmed with all the appointments and the struggles we’ve had, I remind myself to be grateful that we are healthy and others are struggling with much bigger and more serious issues. This isn’t to lessen my hard things, but to keep things in perspective. So today, I’m thankful for my hard things, that we don’t have another appointment for awhile, and for my healthy babies. And I’m praying for the parents who are fighting another day for the health of their babies. #healthybabies #fridaythoughts #wellbabycheck #doctorsappointments #fourthtrimester #warriorparents #parentsunite

Let's see who actually reads posts then 😊 So, yesterday was Caelans birthday & I'd like to firstly say a huge thankyou to everyone who sent messages, commented, shared stories to wish him a happy birthday, it NEVER goes unnoticed 🥰 but it did get me thinking....we have over 6 thousand followers & I know it would probably be almost impossible to interact with everyone but out of all those followers only 10 people commented on my post for him, 10! Now, I completely understand that people have lives, stuff going on & not everyone is on instagram 24/7 & rightly so & I also understand that Instagram have made it harder & people often miss each others posts BUT I do wonder if some only interact now & again for their own gain, their own popularity, maybe they need so many comments, likes etc to boost their engagement? Maybe they need something shared for a competition or giveaway? I don't know? What I do know is though, I love supporting people on here, small businesses & parents & I genuinely love getting to know people, I often go out of my way to interact, share things, wish a person or their child happy birthday, I'm really not bothered about numbers, followers etc but I do care about genuinity & real conversations, it's such a shame everyone isn't as genuine as they seem. Maybe it's just me? Am I alone here or do you feel this too? #isanyonerealanymore #fakeittomakeit #itsnicetobenice #engagement #selfgain

It is challenging to not be affected by our constant stream of thoughts. Negative thoughts, judgments, and criticisms weigh us down and can create many uncomfortable emotions. ⠀ ⠀ Realizing that difficult experiences are inevitable and we can either respond with anger and self-criticism or with compassion and kindness. When we have self-compassion we are less likely to look to others to validate our self-worth. ⠀ ⠀ What happens when you have a negative thought about yourself or are hard on yourself? ⠀ ⠀ Practicing self-forgiveness, self-love and gratitude can help lesson our inner critics. A willingness to observe our negative thoughts with openness and curiosity, not judgment is another way to cultivate self-compassion. The next time a critical thought comes into your mind, can you give self-compassion a try? 💕

To the ones who feel like they’re doing so little but are really DOING SO MUCH. 😘 Parenthood, it’s a beautiful mess. And you’re not in it alone. My morning consisted of being woken up at 5:40AM by a baby who thought it was time to get up. My coffee, that I was holding onto so dearly, was knocked to the floor and all over the sofa. Like most days, my personal bubble is non existent this morning. My sweater is being stretched and tugged from here to Hong Kong. My eyes are heavy. My heart is full. I might of also snapped this morning when I was accidentally scratched by Jace as he tried to kiss me. 😰 From one tired mama to another CHEERS to parenthood. Cheers to the long days and the long nights. Cheers to a community of people who GET IT. 🙌🏼 I LOVE THIS BEAUTIFUL MESS. My beautiful mess. ✨ I wouldn’t trade it for the world. But it’s a grace upon grace type of gig. Surviving, thriving, or somewhere in the middle. Struggle to struggle. Victory to victory. We need each other We need community. //

HELLO DECEMBER!!! 🌲 “If you have no trust, there is no relationship” • How often do we trust the relationship we have with ourselves? What does the relationship you have with yourself look like? How much do we give of ourselves to other people that we forget or ignore ourselves? {INSPIRATION FOR WRAP A BUB} Our daughter Lucy 💕 On the 5th August 2019, Lucy was diagnosed with a terrible winter virus (RSV) which ultimately progressed to acute bronchiolitis at only 7 weeks of age and was rushed to ICU @ Sydney Children’s Hospital. Lucy was on a special respiratory machine (c-pap) and cared for 24/7, always a nurse by her side and doctors on hand every second of the day. It was such a scary and upsetting time watching our girl battle through a tough illness but we were put to ease knowing she was receiving all the care for her to pull through. We are forever grateful to the rockstar doctors and nurses at Sydney Children’s Hospital @sydney_kids Today she is living life like a 5 month old - teething and almost crawling! We hope our project @wrapabub will bring much comfort to other families in need. Swipe to see Lucy’s then and now pics!

SWADDLING, SLEEPING BAGS & BEDDING Last one of the series team. There is limited evidence to suggest that swaddling (or wrapping) has a protective effect against SUDI/SIDS in infancy. However, on the contrary, there is lots of evidence to suggest that UNSAFE swaddling does increase the risk of suffocation and SUDI/SIDS. So, should you swaddle your baby or not? Well, that’s really up to you. Swaddling is an effective technique that helps keep your baby warm, feel comforted & reduce crying time, limit the startle reflex, improve sleep and can aid in keeping them on their back to sleep (which is known to reduce the risk of SUDI/SIDS). So you can see why pretty much everyone swaddles their baby. However, it’s really important that you are comfortable and confident in your swaddling technique, because if your baby is able to unwrap themselves it can lead to the possibility of strangulation or suffocation from the unwrapped swaddle. Sleeping bags are a new invention that are great at solving the problem for parents if they are unsure or not confident in swaddling their baby. As long as the sleeping bag is weather appropriate, the correct size, and meets your countries safety standards, you can’t really go wrong. They keep your baby warm, secure, and you don’t have to worry about a special wrapping/swaddling technique. So what about old school bedding? You can certainly use “normal” sheets and blankets. You just have to be careful to make sure they are tucked in securely to ensure they cannot flip up onto your babies face. More resources below 📷 @takingcarababies How do you keep your baby warm? Are you team swaddle, team sleeping bag, or team bedding? Also, would you like a swaddling demo? I might have to find some delicious new babies to cuddle for this one 🤪😍

Listen: I’m going to put this out here right now for all the “Pinterest obsessed” parents - Can you pretty please with a candy cane on top stop doing these over the top stunts with your elves each day? It kind of leaves the rest of us looking like our elves are lazy- 😂 Can we agree on this? I hear some elves bring gifts? And I mean REAL gifts. Like expensive things! Where is this written? Bring baked goods ? Ummm no! Leave elaborate notes from The North Pole? who has the time? MOST of us need a reminder in our phones to just to remember to make a move much less leave a message in toilet paper across the front lawn with a secret message from Santa .... So please I Beg of you- I had a child last year doing a lot of “comparing” of our elves to “others” telling me all the AMAZING things her friends were GETTING which left her wondering why her elves were so..... ummm BASIC! (The kid was getting a gift each day from Her elf- WTF!) Isn’t it enough for them just to stare at us with creepy eyes and be there magically from the North Pole? WE ARE ALL ON THE SAME TEAM Here right? Have fun Create memories Let our kids get excited just to Find their new hiding spot each morning I think that was the original idea right? Having said that- let the fun begin!! #elfontheshelfshenanigans #letskeepitsimple #parentsunite #stopmakingyourlifecomplicated #letsjusthavefunwithit #momlifestruggles #holidaystress

My father was many things and despite the issues he had, he was always supportive. He was very much someone who never judged a soul. Anyone from all walks of life were welcome to him and he entertained everyone he met with his jokes and tricks! What's something about your dad that has stuck with you? If you're a dad what would you like your children to remember about you? #dadlife #fatherhood #parenting #throwbackthursday #memories #creatememories #dad #parentsunite

Appreciation for being true! I feel like I'm on a mission and it is getting clearer.. .. I realize that sometimes you think you are on a great path and suddenly the road turns a corner you didn't't expect. I usted to worry about judgement of others when it seemed to me that I was taking a complete different path all of a sudden. Now I know that it is usually a better one :-) I want to reach out to all the parents who are feeling uneasy about how common society is treating children, especially in school systems. Why is it that we are still "wanting" our kids to "behave" and "learn" the same things that we were taught when the last 10 years (at least) our world is completely different? I know that teaching methodes (working with laptops and tablets etc) are being upgraded but they are still making kids memorize silly facts and crazy morals and stupid rules. If a child doesn't't fit in a box it has to go to the doctor to get " better" with drugs or behaviour therapy. But you can not put a big shiny star into a little narrow square box.... Let's unite to talk about this. #justwingingit #parentsunite #energeticwork #energetischetekening #elkedagwatnieuwsleren #energetischondernemen #globalparents #mommyofsons #proudmommy #changeyourfeelingschangeyourlife

Are you terrified of missing something serious? You know what? I’m not ashamed to say that I am - most parents are. But, this thought process is typically wrapped up in fear. Fear of our precious little people becoming really unwell, fear of looking like an ‘idiot’, or fear of not knowing what to do. But you know what else? It’s very rare that you’ll ever be truly alone. You don’t have to know all the answers - you just need to know where to look for them. The beauty about healthcare is that there are teams and teams of people there to help you. Sure, sometimes health professionals make mistakes - we are human - but you can do so much to educate yourself, so that you feel empowered rather than fearful about looking after your family. Here are some of my tips for educating yourself about how to care for your family: 1. Although I have a love-hate relationship with the internet, it’s a wealth of information right there at your fingertips. Just make sure you know how to research properly, and understand what makes information reliable and evidence-based. I have a whole chapter devoted to this in my Sick Happens Guide. 2. Have a list of emergency numbers and 24-7 helplines on your fridge so that you have a trustworthy source to call upon if you need some advice. Dr Google is not your friend when your emotions are at an all time high. HealthDirect 1800 022 222. HealthDirect also have a Pregnancy, birth and baby (up to age 5) general help and support number - 1800 882 436. (QLD = 13HEALTH) 3. Get to a first aid course @tinyheartseducation are great - check out their feed. 4. Find a GP that you like and trust. This might be a bit of trial and error, but if you’re walking away from your GP appointment feeling confused, not convinced or unsure, it might be time to find a new one. Often the treatment options are spot on, but they might not have the time to deliver the message in a way that you understand. 5. @shan.tripp has BRILLIANT story highlights all about choking, CPR, fever & more. Well worth the follow. The more information you have, the less fearful you will feel. What scares you the most about sick kids? Share below to see that you’re probably not alone 👇

Becoming a mother is an instinct!⁣ ⁣ Parenting is something you will learn to do naturally!⁣ ⁣ Becoming a mother is what you were born to do!⁣ ⁣ For me it has not always been easy or felt “natural”. ⁣ ⁣ Even after being a parent for 4 years and working with babies and toddlers for a decade I am still learning EVERYDAY!⁣ ⁣ There is not a book you can read that will tell you how to be a good parent.⁣ ⁣ If there was...then someone would have written it and would be making boatloads of money!⁣ ⁣ ⭐️Every parent is different.⁣ ⁣ ⭐️Every child is different.⁣ ⁣ ⁣ This is why there is no one size fits all when it comes to parenting.⁣ ⁣ What works for one...may not work for someone else.⁣ ⁣ What you can do is continue to learn and grow as a parent.⁣ ⁣ ❤️Make mistakes and learn from them.⁣ ⁣ ❤️Don’t judge other parents if you don’t want your parenting judged.⁣ ⁣ ❤️Consider advice when given and give advice to others that can you think could be helpful and supportive.⁣ ⁣ ⭐️PLEASE SHARE⭐️⁣ ⁣ ⁣ #parentingstruggles #newparents #becomingamother #parentsunite #helpeachothergrow #toddlerstruggles #supportmoms #momssupportmoms #momtribe #yougotthis #parentingmeme
