I’ve made many mistakes in my life & I’m far from owning an empty closet, but I’ve learned something from every time I fail & I’m willing to see where I could have chosen a different approach. “The Lancia Montecarlo (Type 137) is a Pininfarina-designed mid-engined sports car which was produced by Lancia in Italy from 1975 to 1981. Cars from the first series, which were produced from 1975 to 1978, were known as Lancia Beta Montecarlos and those from the second series, produced from 1980 to 1981, simply as Lancia Montecarlos. Both series were offered in Coupé and Spider versions, the latter featuring a unique roll-back manually operated targa style convertible top. Total production numbers come to 7,798 units, with production spanning from 1974 until 1982 with an interruption in 1979. Power came from a twin cam, 1995 cc Lampredi inline four, developing 120 PS (88 kW; 118 hp) at 6000 rpm. Lancia claimed a top speed of over 190 km/h and a 0–100 km/h acceleration time of 9.3 seconds. The Montecarlo suffered from several issues. The engine noise in the interior of the car was sometimes criticized. Harsh shifting is common and increases as the bushings wear. The rear crossmember is a design flaw; the metal used was too thin and is susceptible to corrosion and eventual failure, although stronger replacement crossmembers are available from aftermarket companies. Rusted floor pans are a major cause of early Montecarlo demise. The Montecarlo was the basis for Lancia's successful Group B rally car, the Lancia 037. “The Continental Mark series is a series of personal luxury cars that were marketed by the Lincoln-Mercury division of Ford Motor Company under various nameplates, including the short-lived Continental Division. The Continental Mark Series was marketed from model years 1956 to 1960 and from 1968 to 1998, always serving as the flagship of Ford Motor Company in North America. For 1968, Lincoln restarted the Continental Mark series with the Continental Mark III as a true successor to the Continental Mark II. Instead of being a flagship model of the standard Lincoln, the Continental Mark III was an all-new car. Based on the Ford Thunderbird, it was strictly a personal-luxury coupe like the Continental Mark II and the 1939–1948 Continental, thus restarting the series at Mark III. The Continental Mark VI introduced downsizing to the Mark series alongside the introduction of a four-door sedan bodystyle. Based on the success of the Mark V, the Mark VI adopted many of the exterior styling cues of its predecessor, including its oval opera windows, radiator-style grille, "Continental" spare-tire decklid, hidden headlamps, vertical taillamps, and front fender louvers. Sharing the Panther platform, the two-door Mark VI was derived from the shorter wheelbase of the Ford LTD/Mercury Marquis, with the four-door Mark VI sharing its chassis with the Continental (Town Car). The four-door was distinguished largely by its fenders, opera windows, and decklid; the two-door has a separate roofline from the two-door Town Car. In place of the previous 7.5L V8, a fuel-injected 4.9L V8 was standard (a 5.8L carbureted V8 was offered for 1980).
