Do you suffer from Osgood schlatters? Want to know how you can manage it before a game? Well here are two different taping methods you can use to help relieve some of the symptoms, improving your performance. But first what is osgood-schlatters disease? OSD is a painful condition occurring at the knee where during adolescence bone and tendon may not grow at the same rate due to growth spurts, causing inflammation of the patellar tendon. Equipment needed for taping; Scissors, rock or rigid tape, underwrap or fixomull tape. 1⃣ the first taping method involves the use of rigid tape, where you will spiral the tape around causing a narrower but stronger tape supporting or offloading the tendon. 2⃣ the second taping method involves using rock tape, where you will cut 2 pieces of identical length approx 4-5inches. With these two pieces cut, then apply on 45 degree angle across the patellar tendon, giving it more support. Make sure that the ends of the tape are applied with no stretch, Just the mid section. At the end of each taping method be sure to press down firmly, so as the adhesive sticks to the skin well. It’s been a rainy, grey day in Noosa and I needed a mobility exercise to put a smile on my face. Snake Reach is quite an advanced mobility exercise because it requires decent overhead and hip mobility just to get into it… so I thought this is the perfect exercise to make me concentrate on the moment and take my focus off the crappy weather. Snake Reach: Start half kneeling on the right knee and place the stick inside the left thigh. Reach the right hand up to grip the stick with the palm facing forward. Reach the left shoulder in front of the stick and use the left hand to anchor the stick into the ground. Keep squaring the shoulders and hips to the front of the yoga mat while you reach the right hand up as high as you can. If you feel like you want to progress the stretch, shift the stick further to the right, sink the right hip to the ground and lean further to the left. Once you feel like you are in your end range, hold the position for 30-60s and repeat on the other side. This will make you bendy and stronger in your overhead position and lunges by lengthening and strengthening shoulder flexion, thoracic extension, side flexion and hip extension. For my birthday month I promised myself I would try something new, and stray out of my comfort zone. So I decided to go on the Roosevelt tram, this is huge. Cuz I’m deathly 💀 afraid of heights. But I said something new and out of my comfort zone. 🎊🎊🎊🎊 So on Monday I went on a trip across the east river (N.Y). I was nervous, and shaky going across . So high up the river below about a 400 ft (I think, so don’t come me) drop. 🎊🎊🎊🎊 Coming back though was awesome. I knew what to expect and I felt more comfortable. Which surprised the heck out of me go figure. Maybe it was the adrenaline. 🎊🎊🎊🎊 I took photos and video. In the end I was glad I did it. For that one step outside my normal slow lane felt like conquering a mountain. 🎊🎊🎊🎊 That’s the thing about fear it freezes you in place, but the bravery to move forward even though you’re terrified forces you to live. In a way the most alive you’ll feel. Even if the results not always positive, the gamble is part of the lesson. Being diagnosed was like thank God this is the reason. I’m not lazy, and the anxiety monster that’s taken pieces of you is real. But I digress this supposed to be a positive moment. 🎊🎊🎊🎊 I wish you strong will and lots of spirt because though invisible illness has its limitations. Seriously, runners are the most thoughtful people. Today, I was lifted up by not one but two fellow runners. (Thank you @ejillruns and @run2thefire 🙏🏼) As we go into the weekend of my big hometown race — the race that got me my BQ — I’ll be thinking about all my friends out there running their hearts out. I’ll be on the sidelines giving it right back to you. I’m disappointed that I won’t be racing this weekend. But I’m in a good place. My good friend @dariusz_szpilewski helping others get better. “💥Movement Monday💥 💥Welcome back to Movement Monday ! - 1️⃣As mentioned last week, we practice Controlled Articular Rotations (CARs) to maintain and improve range of motion at the joints. 2️⃣The second reason to practice CARs is to provide your nervous systems with specific signaling for how to remodel tissues (muscles, ligaments, nerves etc.) surrounding your joints. - 👍🏼In other words, if you create an environment that demands your joints to move frequently through their full ranges of motions with force and control (strength), then your body will respond by adopting and remodeling accordingly. - 👉🏼Unfortunately, if you only move your joints through limited ranges of motion, or only through specific planes of motion, the tissues will also remodel to that specific input by a way of atrophy (if you don't use it, you lose it). - 🔑Hence, we prescribe specific CARs to our clients to practice every day to affect tissue, not just muscle, but at the cellular level and (re)design their architecture. - - #movementmonday #movement #training #CARs #ankleCARs #controlledarticularrotations #physiotherapy #physio #move #niagara #niagaraorthopaedicinstitute

At Uni I was taught to lie patients down on the table and spend 30 mins assessing passive joint range, testing manual muscle strength and palpating for hypomobile joints. None of that gave me any insight into how an individual used their own motor pattern, mobility and stability to perform a functional movement. While you could argue the overhead squat isn’t necessarily functional, no test will give you as much quick info about someone’s movement pattern, coordination, mobility & stability.

📕Привет. А у меня сегодня опять книга профессора Ольги Кобяковой @kobyakova.olga которая не только о медицине и здоровье, а о жизни в целом. Хотя безусловно нет никаких сомнений в том что она написана профессионалом и исключительно в разрезе отношения к своему здоровью. ⠀ ✅И без сомнения скажу, что это пока лучшая книга о здоровье из всех что я встречал. Кроме университетских учебников конечно -:). Потому что дело даже не в том что она написана «простыми словами», «не заумными медицинскими терминами». Дело в том, что она написана не только большим профессионалом и врачом, она написана УМНЫМ ЧЕЛОВЕКОМ. ⠀ 👩‍🎓А умный человек - прекрасно знает, что человек - относительно живое существо -:). И все равно у него есть слабости, наклонности, а так же медицинские показания и жизненные обстоятельства. И эта первая книга, которая не заставляет, и не призывает от всего отказаться ( кстати - глава про диету - самое рациональное что я про них читал в популярной литературе в принципе ), а наоборот - предлагает ни в коем случае не отказываться от своих привычек, слабостей. А так же дает много практических советов, как минимизировать ущерб для здоровья. ⠀ ❗️Книга действительно отличается от всего вороха литературы современных «диетологов» и специалистов по «анти-эйдж», которые завуалированно пропагандируют только одно - коды на IHERB. Думаю что о скандале с таким специалистом месяца два назад помнят все. А книга Ольги - она по сути ничему не учит. ⠀ 🥃Нет возможности отказаться от выпивки? Бывает, но в таком случае, нужно минимизировать последствия. 50/50 mood today. Saturday morning wins - getting the apartment gym to yourself 👌. . . . Truth be told, I'm feeling pretty unmotivated this morning as an injured runner 🤯. I hurt my foot towards the end of the marathon 2 weeks ago and I've given it enough time now to know I need to see a physio 🙄. It's getting better but it still hurts when I walk every-single-step so running is a distant memory at the moment 😭. It's a constant pinch on the very outside of my foot 🤔. . . . I think my positivity this week about it being better was because I was wearing steel cap boots all week for work and it wasn't hurting simply because I wasn't bending it. . . . So, here I am, in the gym trying to remotivate myself and build up strength while my foot sorts out whatever bad mood it's in at the moment. Feeling incredibly frustrated at my inability to run for the interim and with it being a high of 33 degrees today (my absolute favourite heat to run in (I know, I'm one of the weird runners who loves the heat)), it's frustrating me even more. . . . The word hangry exists and I'm not even sure if it's a word but I'm definitely RANGRY (running+angry) at the moment 🤯. 💡SUBSCARULARIS💡This is a nasty muscle that gets overloaded with excessive internal rotation of the shoulder. For instance swimming, rowing, and most sports that involve throwing. . . The interesting thing about this muscle is it’s referral pattern. . . Clients usually experience pain down their arm, in the front of their shoulder and/ or sometime into the wrist . . It’s a muscle that is not easily released yourself as it lives on the inside of your shoulder blade, unlike your other rotator cuff muscles. . . If you are experiencing shoulder pain, it’s worth getting it checked out. There is often a lot that can be done to help.

Current status: Tapered, primed, healthy and carbed up. Can you identify which is the problem hip, and why? Form checks are important in the month leading up to race day so you can identify stiffness, weakness or fatigue and address it soon. This primer exercise gave me some hints that my left hip wasn’t thrilled or moving as well as it needed to be. With some #physiotherapy exercises I was able to to address this deficit and prep for race day. • Death: I hold the unpopular opinion that life is made better due to the inevitable consequence of death - and my time as a physiotherapist in the intensive care unit helped me realize this truth. You see, it’s not often that we are confronted with death on a daily basis; and if you’re lucky, it only seeps into your reality once in a while. But in the ICU, you face the prospect of death head-on, day in and day out. You are forced to consider your own life, AND death, in a deeper capacity than normal. And you are called to do all that you can to not only SAVE lives, but to bring authenticity and compassion to end-of-life care when necessary. It’s a challenging field of practice, particularly on the emotional level. But I must say - I have become a better human after having opened myself up to these challenges. After asking myself the hard questions.
