Please Read!!! To all my amazing Iron Warrior brothers and Sisters who have shared my journey this past year, first I thank you and also state that you know my work ethic when it comes to self improvement. However to those new to my family my past few posts showing the amazing results from @austinbodycontouring may have lead you to believe I don't put in the work to look the way I do, I assure you If that is your thought you are mistaken. Seen here that's 470 pounds 3rd set in second excercise not the heaviest I've done but work big time. Preceded by heavy front squats and followed by heavy hack squats then heavy leg presses 800 pounds is all, then single leg squats and then stiff legged deadlifts and finally two variations on calf raises. Thank you as always to my Epic training partner @maurio89 who pushes me to my limits simply by looking at me it's a mental thing that passes between two Warriors without the need for words, go follow him. Don’t let anyone tell you, you can’t do something 😤 #BuildAndDontStop . . I started working out when I was about 15 years old with boxing. 16 I started more body weight stuff, played around with CrossFit, parkour, p90x, and insanity. 17-18 is when I started lifting weights and never looked back. . . Well I am looking back now 😂 but...it’s only to see how far I’ve come. . . I still remember being in high school and not being able to do push ups on the 2 weeks I lasted for the track team, or how I was the slowest kid in the team (I’ll probably still be the slowest but I’ll look damn good doing it 😅) . . Point being, I was never athletic I didn’t have the best genetics, my parents don’t know what a deadlift is, I didn’t have a friend to go with me to the gym, I didn’t really know what I was doing....but I learned. You can too. . I’m just an average kid who decided not to give up ✌🏼 at Little Italy, Manhattan

Standing Calf Raise for Hypertrophy - 🤜🏼 Choose a weight that you can control throughout the entire range of motion. 🤜🏼 Create a stable foundation 🤜🏼 Focus on intent of driving your ankle forward. 🤜🏼 Keep weight on big toe. 🤜🏼 I recommend around 6-20 reps at a weight you can control and create tension. This will bring maximal benefit to the activation and hypertrophy of your calf musculature. - There are three major issues people tend to have when performing standing calf raises: 1️⃣. Lacking the ability to fully shorten the calf - driving the ankle forward. 2️⃣. Chooses a weight too heavy for strength and has little control. 3️⃣. Wears a shoe not fit for the movement - I recommend a form fitting, snug fit, low top, with good grip. - 🤔 Common Questions: Q. How many reps should I do? A. The calves are made up of both slow and fast twitch muscle fibers. I would recommend training them anywhere from 6-20 reps per set. Q. How often should I train them? A. You should train them more often at lower volumes per session. Why? It's rare that someone can withstand the metabolic stress placed on the calves during a 30-45 min calf session. I recommend 3-4x per week at around 4-8 sets per session. - Don't forget to tag a friend! - Any recommendations of exercises you would like to see in this series? #TrickyTricep coming at you 👊🏻 - - Slight variation to the dumbbell skull crusher...I originally saw this from the great @mikeohearn and I must say this one is on the tough side. I would recommend starting with a lighter weight to get the motion down. - - To execute this variation, start as if you are going to perform a skull crusher then twist your pinkies inward on the negative part of the motion. At the bottom you should be in a supinated grip (palms facing you) and experience the long head tricep GAINZ - - Ps, if you’re looking to get creative, you can try this on an incline/decline, dropset, single arm, etc, guys I could go on and on! Creativity in workouts keeps things interesting for me! I've had a few clients ask me about how to track the amount of calories you burn in a day. While there are some formulas to give you *estimates*, these are extremely unreliable to use as a method of tracking. _ As you can see in the pic, your body weight (and body composition) is regulated by tons of factors and those listed are VERY simplified explanations. _ What many people will do is pay attention to their Fitbit or iPhone and think that's all the calories they are allowed to eat for the day, or they assume they can add on those extra calories to their normal consumption. Both of these are slippery slopes and can lead to minimal, if any, progress. _ So, what should you track instead? _ Better options would be: 🔹Total daily calories eaten 🔹Weekly calories eaten 🔹Morning body weight 🔹Weekly average of body weight 🔹Total steps in a day 🔹Waist/Body Measurements _ These are better because these are data points we can control and are much more precise than trying to guess how many calories we're burning. So, instead of wishing and hoping and wondering and stressing and running yourself ragged, make this moment, right here right now, the best it can be! One way that I try and keep my mind in a positive space is keeping myself hydrated and I ha e a photo on my phone of my nephew with this huge smile on his face. I look at that picture and it instantly makes me happy. And it reminds me that he lives for the moments and is joyful in that moment.
