BREAKFAST TIME!! 🥣 Right bowl vs left bowl The difference between these 2 is about 400-500 calories!!! 😯 one is portioned accordingly to a clients calorie allowance! (Left) the other is a portion that would be poured out by many of us to fill our bowls without even thinking about it! This is the meal time that most people tend to get wrong. A big one I see is portion size when it comes to breakfast cereals! Especially important when the cereal is granola, and high sugar like the above example! It's a coffee and cookie kinda night! Don't worry it's my healthy cookie and coffee. I resisted my normal Sb☕ when I was in Dallas area today mainly cause my accountability partner (aka Alexzandria)👩‍👧kept me in check. On cold🌬 days like today, I really struggle with it and to think I wasn't even a coffee drinker til my mid 30s, yes i'm over 30,😂 and it was a slow progression. It's 32° degrees out! (1 °C for all the international friends! ) ❄️ . . I couldn’t resist warm fluffy pancakes this morning, so here we are! . . In my younger days I would gorge on pancakes the size of plates until my stomach hurt. It’s true our eyes are bigger than our stomachs, who doesn’t want more of something they like? . Back then, when we were still hunter gatherers, we were programmed to gorge since we did not know when the next meal would be. In this day and age, we have more than plenty yet we still have that trait to overeat within us. . Now a days I make myself smaller higher nutritional pancakes, eat slower and feel better afterwards. Last night Tilby and I celebrated his birthday by eating some junk food (because life is all about balance and we are proficient junk food eaters). We noticed that afterwards we felt like crap, super bloated and we couldn’t not even finish what we would normally eat. We took this as good news meaning we’ve managed to change some of our bad habits. It was a nice treat but honestly not actually as enjoyable as it used to be. ANYWAY if anyone wants cake 🎂 there’s a whole one left.

You want fancy, beautifully plated food, then this isn't for you. I do real. I do practical. I do food that anyone can do. If you are in a weight loss journey, or even just thinking about it, then listen up. I've got the down low... Exercise is definitely a good thing. Morning exercise will help boost your metabolism throughout the day and help you on your way. Drinking 1/2 your body weight in ounces of water is also instrumental in your success. AND.. Not only what you eat, but how much you eat, even of the good stuff, is absolutely necessary to understand. See those pretty little boxes? I use those to measure my food. These are what I used to finally learn what pepper portion sizes were supposed to look like. (Seriously, I had no idea.) They're easy to use, color coded, and even have lids so I can use them as to go containers. No matter what your issue is you can exercise in some shape, way, or form. Live your best life! Don’t stand in your own way! Day 2 Faster! What just happened! That was crazy! I had to modify again because the steel rod I have in my leg was bothering me before I even started. I kept moving and didn’t stop. There was some wheezing and limping. Overall I’m please with my performance because I didn’t quit. I can now touch the floor with my hands where as yesterday I couldn’t. I blame @tem0617 😂 Or maybe Sam’s Club for having these on sale! Either way, these are an IN MODERATION snack option for me. Especially after dinner when I typically crave something sweet. They aren’t bad for me, but they aren’t of much nutritional value either. What they are is a better alternative to ice cream, Oreo’s, donuts, etc! Definitely delicious, crunchy and the right amount of sweet. I will be portioning these out to help me from eating!

The unanimous message from such information is that one has to consume less food. And with this in mind, many attempt to reduce episodes of eating and/or food volume. - - The problem with the above method is as follows: alteration of body composition is not subjective. Instead, it answers objectively to the numeric balance of energy. Therefore unmeasured reduction of meals or quantity of food in meals/snacks/drinks becomes redundant to the outcome unless the actual energy within meals/snacks/drinks consumed is accounted for. As the above example shows, reducing episodes of eating does not guarantee a calorie deficit. Here, an individual is hoping that their perception of ‘eating less’ will support the goal. The reality is that the individual is not factually aware of their nutritional consumption. The goal may or may not be supported. - - Alternatively, accurate calculation of an individual’s compositional statistics, TDEE and lifestyle can factually determine the value of energy required to enter a state of caloric deficit. Once this is attained, an individual can track calorie consumption to enable adherence to said calorie target. Awareness is enhanced, knowledge is gained and perception is replaced by certain science. - - Despite what you hear, reliable meta analysis of information shapes the world we live in - including our physical ability to change. Last, but certainly not least: DAIRY. ⠀ ⠀ Not all can tolerate dairy, some may have a milk allergy and others choose to exclude. I believe in exclusivity of foods, unless medically necessary. ⠀ ⠀ Dairy has such great nutritional benefits, it’s just silly to exclude from your diet, again, unless medically necessary. ⠀ 1. Source of fat for little ones. Fat is an important nutrient during these optimal years of growth and brain development. ⠀ 2. Great source of calcium and protein. ⠀ ⠀ DAIRY portions for toddlers (1-3 years)⠀ - 1/3 cup yogurt⠀ - 1/2 cup milk⠀ - 1/2 and oz, 1/2 a slice, or a 1 inch cube of cheese⠀ ⠀ Offer 2-3 times per day. ⠀ ⠀ Cow’s milk should be avoided until one year of age. This is due to their developing digestive system and the time it needs to work up to tolerating cow’s milk. ⠀ ⠀ YOGURT: the biggest worry from parents about yogurt is the sugar content. I will share a future post specifically dedicated to yogurts, but my overall perspective on yogurt and sugar is that it’s nearly impossible to avoid added sugar, unless your kids enjoy plain. If that’s the case, great job mom, but I don’t think that’s the majority. Look for a yogurt RELATIVELY low in sugar, 8 g or less, recognize that yogurt has natural sugar in it, try to find other areas to reduce sugar in their diets, and adding honey is still considered added sugar. More to come in a future post!⠀ ⠀ ⠀ MILK: little ones should drink whole milk until two years of age. The high fat content in Whole milk is essential for their brain development and calories. I will share a future post on milk alternatives and break down the differences. ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ CHEESE: cheese is often high in sodium, but can be a favorite for many little ones. Try to offer in controlled portions or offer varieties lower in sodium, such as mozzarella or swiss. Throughout that fitness thing, you start to reevaluate some of these beliefs. 🔸🔸🔸🔸🔸🔸🔸🔸🔸🔸🔸🔸🔸🔸🔸🔸 1️⃣ Restrictive diets where you eliminate all fatty, sugary foods that give you pleasure won’t work. _____________________________________________ They did work for me... for a moment. And I was glad I was able to be that strong. But then frustration came in. It would be 5 super restrictive days and 2 gargantuan cheat days during which I would eat literally anything. Not because I was craving the cheats, but because it was my window, the only time I would could, would allow myself to have them. WRONG!!! WRONG!!! . Because this quickly can lead to some eating disorders; the yo-yo effect of these diets was insane. I would loose 2-3 kilos during the week, to gain 4 kilos over the weekends, then loose them, then gain them again. 🔸🔸🔸🔸🔸🔸🔸🔸🔸🔸🔸🔸🔸🔸🔸🔸 Restrictive was not the way to go . . 2️⃣ Non restrictive doesn’t mean you should have whatever there is either. People usually say 80% clean 20% cheats. They’re kind of right, not entirely thought. Because you can adjust these numbers to your liking. _____________________________________________ Long story short the idea is to have some fat, a good amount of protein and carbs. And, you just have to prioritize food with good micronutrients (vitamins, minerals) along the way. 🔸🔸🔸🔸🔸🔸🔸🔸🔸🔸🔸🔸🔸🔸🔸🔸🔸 ➡️Protein : eggs, chicken, ham, fish and yoghurt ➡️Carbs: potatoes, dessert, Cheetos, fruits and vegetables, ice cream ➡️Fat : oil, desserts, cheese, butter, eggs . 3️⃣ Think simple. Because elaborate dishes are fun to cook on week 1. However, visualize week 13, tons of homework, other things to do and a complete lack of interest for cooking. So excited for these! I got them for $4.99 each at Aldi and it’s gonna be nice portioning out my meals for lunch for work. :) Yesterday was a pretty good day, and I went over my points and into my weeklies by a bit. We decided on a last minute spur to have Tommy’s (popcorn chicken, cheese fries and honey mustard) and while it was delicious, I know I could’ve spent my points better. How much food you decide to eat depends on your age, weight, sex, and how active you are. . A SERVING is the amount of food listed on a product’s food label. This can be measured with cups, ounces, liters, grams, pieces, slices, or numbers. An example of this would be 1 cup of apple juice. . Here’s a some tips on managing your PORTIONS: . 🍽 Take one serving out of the packaged food item and serve it on a plate instead of eating straight from the bag/box. . 🍽 Avoid eating in front of the tv or while busy with other activities. Oftentimes you end up mindlessly eating without actually being hungry. . 🍽 (A little Jedi Mind trick here) Use smaller dishes, bowls, and cups; this way, you eat with your gut and not with your eyes. You can always go back for seconds or thirds if you are not satisfied. . 🍽 Stop eating and drinking when you’re full. This is how your plate should look like :) - Choose a smaller plate size if you are on low calories/weight loss. - Choose a bigger plate size if you are on high calories/weight gain. TWO WEEK RESULTS ARE IN 🤸🤸⁣ ⁣ I've lost 1.8lbs this week taking my total since January 7th 4.2lbs lost! Maybe the hardest seller of them all: VEGETABLES. ⠀ ⠀ Vegetables are not always a favorite, but there’s so many different kinds and endless ways to offer them. ⠀ ⠀ The portion size is very simple across the board for infants and toddlers:⠀ 1. One Tbsp for each year of age. ⠀ 2. OR whatever they will eat. ⠀ ⠀ My advice and encouragement to you is to keep trying! Try new veggies and different ways to offer them. It may take a few attempts, years or decades, but don’t give up! They eventually may come around. ⠀ ⠀ Many of us adults develop new tastes that we never had as children, but we must continue to try and also be exposed. ⠀ ⠀ FRESH: make sure they are cooked soft enough to tolerate. Most raw veggies should be avoided until three years plus. Offer cooked veggies the size of your pinky for infants, diced for those who’ve mastered the pincer grasp and larger chunks for experts 😊⠀ ⠀ FROZEN: JUST as healthy of an option as fresh. Frozen is convenient and typically cheaper! Roast, steam or sauté. ⠀ ⠀ CANNED: yes, canned veggies can still fit in a healthy diet. They are typically really soft. I recommend purchasing the no salt added varieties and/or rinsing them with water prior to cooking. ⠀ ⠀ LEAFY GREENS: these can be a choking hazard if not offered correctly. You can safely introduce leafy greens to toddlers (1-3 years), maybe even a little younger, in smoothies, chopped finely with dressing or hidden in baked goods. ⠀ ⠀ SAUCES: we often think veggies have to be this boring green thing that sits untouched on our plates. WRONG. They can be something as simple as a marinara sauce. Yes, it’s more processed, but it’s just fine. After all, marinara is made out of tomatoes! Incorporate other veggies into sauces and dips for fun!⠀ ⠀ Remember, when offering veggies to infants, every infant is different. Let’s talk bad habits One of the reasons I never saw results is because I have bad habits when I travel- the second I would get out of my routine I would let myself go back to my bad habits - I’d buy processed food at airports, I’d eat out mindlessly, I’d tell myself the “diet starts when I get home”... The problem is I started traveling more- at least once a month so I never really had a consistently healthy pattern, I was ALWAYS starting over. The biggest change I made last year was to ditch the “diet” mentality. Start eating better because it makes me feel better. This morning I had a 6am flight..., for whatever reason traveling makes me sooooo hungry (which is funny to me because it’s when I’m the least active compared to work/home life). I had to leave my house at 3:45am so that morning workout wasn’t going to happen. But that’s okay I knew that so I made today my planned rest day! Then to set myself up for success I packed my daily dose of nutrition that I have in travel packs so I can take my home routine with me on the road. I also got a banana 🍌 cuz I needed a sugar kick after my 3:30am wake up call. Another thing that I’ve learned this year is portion sizes! My banana was large and delicious and I enjoyed every bite of it, it’s also two servings of fruit! I always used to think one banana = one serving of fruit, but even with bananas size matters 😉 it doesn’t mean I won’t eat it, it just means I need to be aware of that when I balance out the rest of my day!
