No other way I'd want to kick off my week than putting in work toward my goals well before the break of dawn. This journey brings me so, so much joy, and mixing it up with different moves programmed in my training from time to time make it that much sweeter. Squats today and I was dying after being at the big man's wedding reception at the weekend. But when your training partner is also your coach you get #nomercy. 252.5kg for 3 sets of 1 (last shown) followed by back down sets of 215 for 3 sets of 5. Toughest session of my life today. Not that the work was tough on paper, my mind was somewhere else. It's been a tough week mentally to begin with and I've been in a bit of a funk. Then today we brought our dog in for a knee problem thinking worst case scenario was surgery on a torn ligament. Turns out it's cancer. There's a 90% chance it's something that will spread no matter what and the research shows they have about 4 months if that's it. She was perfectly healthy and happy other than her leg pain... We had a biopsy done and hoping for that 10% chance (she'd still have to lose that leg) but I know it's not likely. - Everyone handles things different. I am not "hardcore" because I go to the gym when others probably wouldn't. I do it because the gym is my happy place. Today it's a distraction. The gym gives me balance. It's not easy fighting back tears between sets or randomly crying between check ins, but structure helps me. I don't want to lay around all day feeling bad, others would and that's okay too. - The point is everyone has struggles and life will always have ups and downs and it's okay to feel your feelings. You just can't let it derail you from the big picture. Take your time if you need it, but don't forget to keep showing up.

Although I wish today I was posting a new squat PR....sadly I am not 😩 I have failed 315 repeatedly since my last competition. Shown is June 26th, August 8th, September 6th, and today 😰 We show our improvements and our PRs but we don't show our failures. I have done everything.....studied, researched ways to increase squat, build my legs and even doing tons of volume...it's a BIG discouragement and my confidence is shot! As a powerlifter or strongman you need to be hammering glute, spinal erector, and hamstring accessories as often as you can recover from. @underthebar talks about removing any accessory movement from your routine that you don't have a specific purpose for, and I've become a firm believer in taking that into consideration when structuring your program. at Brickhouse Gym

Pause squats. Try it, Its a great exercise to improve your strength at the hole, pause it for 1 to 3 seconds. I do them beltless and after my squat workout. You can do them for reps or you can go for singles. I did 100x4 and after that I did 120kg for a single. Today a couple of things happened. ___ - I might've braced a little, which was awkward, because I was convinced I was going to pee my pants, which as it turned out I didn't. ___ - I was going to be a 'good girl' and wear leggings because my shorts resemble underwear, but as it turned out I was cameltoeing pretty hard. ___ - I scrolled through a few DMs commenting on my story and apparently a few people are losing their shit over a little accidental side boob. Coincidentally, these people are: A: so non attractive they'll most likely never be in the proximity of a woman and thus are super frustrated B: hyper religious C: bodybuilders that claim a monopoly on exposing themselves both on the internet and irl while wearing a thong in front of thousands of strangers After all this I cooked dinner like a good adult would. It was pretty damn tasty! On a more serious note though: I honestly don't care about the shit people post on instagram. It's one big fake world where people are trying to paint a pretty picture of themselves. Is the person you see on my account the person you see in real life? In a way, perhaps. I'm getting a little tired of people staving their self worth on their account and amount of followers, because for all we know, Instagram might just pull the plug tomorrow. As such, it's important to realize IG is just 'a hobby'. Sure, it might make you some money, but you should never depend on it either for money or a sense of self worth. COCONUT & WHITE CHOCOLATE energy balls 😍. . These are totally addictive and really gets the cravings: . RECIPE: . Whizz together: 200g almonds 2.5 tblespoon of coconut oil 400g dates . Then add: 2.5 tblespoon of almond butter. White chocolate chips. And pulse. . . Scoop into balls and roll in desiccated coconut and freeze for an hour! . . TA-DA πŸ’‘ .
