filled to the brim with gratitude. yesterday was traumatic in so many ways, but thankfully, I’m a lucky gal with so many downright amazing people in my tribe. it’s humbling to know that navigating hard seasons and high-stress situations equates to realizing who’s there when push comes to shove, and I feel more fortunate than I have words for. — thank you for the overwhelming volume of kind messages, the tastiest meals, the outpour of support, the warm hugs, the hours spent resting and binge watching friends, and the countless acts of love that have healed my spirit in all the ways I didn’t know I needed. 💓 when seasons like this hit, it’s so easy to spiral in to the sticky, stress of it all, and I’m unbelievably thankful for all the people who have shown up. please remember to always, always be safe on the roads. even when we do everything right and by the books, we are not always invincible. chin up. x

Setting intentions... 💬 Often we get so caught up in the small stuff that we forget the real story. We forget that what we stress about now, won’t mean shit in a year. We forget that we have freedom to choose, not in what happens to us, but how we respond. 🌿 Living life, striving to be the best version of yourself has its ups and downs. Similar to any pattern in life. Sometimes you rock it, and sometimes it fucking rocks you. 🌿 Lately I’ve noticed a lot of resistance within myself towards creating new habits. My old patterns of dealing with boredom, insecurity and anxiety are still there, and it’s interesting to see how strong that pull is towards what is familiar. 🌿 My intentions for the next two weeks at work? To be mindful of my tendency towards anxiety and negative thought patterns while under pressure. BLOG #25 – HOW KIDS GET AROUND ON SCHOOL TRIPS IN UGANDA If you are a parent like me, every time my kid goes on a school field trip I get scared because the buses don’t have seatbelts and I just don’t trust the drivers but in Uganda I would be literally terrified. We were on our way to the Rwenzori Mountains, when we came upon a restaurant at the side of the road. We stopped to take some photos of the amazing views and have a tea and some snacks. As we were leaving we saw these school kids arriving for a field trip. They were jumping out of the back of a truck bed and my jaw hit the floor. My friend and guide,Venex thought my reaction was so funny as this is normal in Uganda but not so much of course in North America. Travelling and seeing how others live, teaches you to be grateful for all the ways we live our lives and for everything we are given – safety being one of the most important. So this morning was the first time in a while that I’ve done anything other than a gentle stretchy practice to wake my body up. It started like that, but then it evolved. And I danced. I danced because life is SO FREAKIN’ GOOD. And I wanted to celebrate that. I danced because my Soul wanted to. And I’m here to play - for my Soul. I danced because I can just feeeel it. And I wanted to keep feeling it. I danced because I love being here. And I wanted to sprinkle my love everywhere. I danced because I have a body. And my body wanted to move. I danced and the cat looked at me like I had finally become insane. But if you’re not getting those looks from people (and cats) around you, are you even doing life right? No more conformity. I say embrace the weird. Embrace YOU. All the quirks and idiosyncrasies that make you who you are. Because mate. Life would be so goddamn boring if we were all the same. And if you want a tribe of women who are embracing their own weird. Embracing their bodies Nourishing their bodies. Their souls. Every morning I get up at 5am, I go downstairs and feed my pups and while they're eating I write in my gratitude journal about the prior day.⠀ --⠀ I then go back upstairs and read my Bible for 10-15 minutes. I have a goal to read straight through and finish the entire thing by the end of 2019.⠀ --⠀ I have been doing this since around the beginning of October consistently (I used to do this last year then fell off the wagon for a while) and I love it. GRATITUDE . Gratitude is an interesting thing. It truly can be a force for change and positivity OR it can be one more thing we use to beat ourselves up. . I've had different types of gratitude practices on and off over the years. For the most part, these practices helped me to see all the wonderful things that were in my life and helped me to shift my mindset to a more positive state. . Shulamit had something interesting to note about the way she used to approach her gratitude practice when she was feeling low. . "When I was feeling low, I’d make a list of “good” things in my life, things for which I should be grateful, and then I’d tell myself, “Look, you should be grateful!” and then berate myself for not feeling any better." . Shulamit's gratitude practice shifted when she started to take time at the end of each day to recall something that happened that day that made her smile. To then pay attention to the feel of the smile, and to what other body sensations came along with smiling and the memory of the event. . She’d sit with that for a while, savouring the sensations and resting in the memory. Then she would convey the experience by writing down a gratitude statement. . After a while practicing this way, as the evening hours approached, thoughts of gratitude would start to come up on their own. Later on these thoughts started to come up spontaneously during the day too. Now spontaneous arise throughout the day. . Now, more joy, pleasure, ease and appreciation flow through Shulamit, even in the midst of difficult happenings. . After all, that’s what we need when we're feeling low! . Hello! Do you feel like you are meant to do more? * To be perfectly honest I had no idea what I wanted to do with my life when I was in college. * Anyone else? I skipped around from major to major. I mean, I loved to learn so I could’ve stayed in college forever! Seven years was long enough I guess! 😂 * I just sort of fell into the career I have now. Literally, I volunteered for something, next thing.... I am working as a paralegal. * I am good at what I do- Analysis & summaries, but I always felt I was missing something. I had a calling at one time to be a teacher. That calling continued. * It was so loud, a couple of years ago I started my business as a health & fitness coach. * As a coach I get to teach…. I get to teach about something I am very passionate about… Health & fitness. * I believe we were all given gifts to use & if you don’t use these gifts you are not living to the potential & purpose of your life. This does not mean you have to do extravagant things! It just means if you have that nagging in your head that you are suppose to do more, that you probably are not using your gifts as you should! * Starting a business was not something I took lightly. Even though to start this business it was very inexpensive, with little loss (literally none because you get paid back your investment fast). At the time I started I was a perfectionist & I had to come to terms with the fact that owning a business was going to have it’s ⬆️ & ⬇️. Plus, I had no idea how to run a business… so I failed in all sorts of ways. * I have finally found my footing. My reason for wanting to build my business is stronger than it was when I started. Llevo dos días viviendo en mis "bandhas", en Sánscrito, son unas llaves que podemos abrir para recibir energía o cerrar para utilizar esa energía en la práctica de "Ashtānga Vinyasa Yoga". "Mulabhanda" y "uddiyanabhanda"; la primera está ubicada en el perineo y se activa elevando el puso pélvico y la segunda, en el abdomen, hundiendo el ombligo (sin dejar de respirar). La práctica es otra cosa. No es que no haya utilizado mis "bandhas" antes; es "mindfulness on my bandhas". Todo mi atención en mantenerlas mientras sigo el "vinyasa" (Sánscrito, para respiración en movimiento), mantengo el "drishti" (enfocar la mirada en un punto) y mantener la "āsana" (postura en Sánscrito). La práctica se transforma. Cada día me sorprendo más de lo infinita y poderosa que es esta práctica. Llevar la pierna allí tiene lo suyo y hoy volví a lograrlo. Mis articulaciones se sienten cada día más suaves. Ahora el lograrlo debe ser consistente. Gracias a todos los maestros que nos han dejado este maravilloso legado. Y hoy feliz porque mi gurú va a estar en Miami del 1 al 7 de Mayo!! I’m troubled.....I’m troubled with all this “politically correct “ behavior and “I’m offended” attitude. Do you know what offends me? That I’m not supposed to say Merry Christmas, when that’s what it IS! my intent is to spread a joyful sentiment not neglect other denominations. I’m offended that there are people who take lyrics to a song from 1944 and twist them to mean what they might mean in 2018 which is disgusting. I’m saddened by the fact that our children do not know a world with unlocked doors and need security in their schools. I’m appalled that people cannot go out in public without fear of mass shootings. The list goes on and on of what has become the new norm and that those of us who don’t “intend” on offending are the ones constantly offended. ........................ I live my life causing no harm but is that enough? I speak of change, change within ourselves and how we treat others, the ripple effect, karma and the like; trying to impress on the masses love conquers hate. But for those listening .. they aren’t the ones who really need the message. For those listening, they are already kindhearted souls looking for answers to better this world. The real change will come when the hatreds with dead souls are reformed. ..................................We need real change and with every passing generation it just gets worse. On a snowy winter, 6 years ago, this journey/adventure/purpose began... but not without a crash course in courage to believe. The cracks, the lessons, the naysayers and non doers, the disappointments, and even people calling me crazy or insane - not understanding how undermining, discouraging or insulting that is. This journey didn’t start as a whim, it started because my heart broke in a zillion pieces and hopelessness was not just creeping in, it was a tidal wave of despair - my heart wanted to be of service. Something happened that I cannot explain, but it felt like a spiritual lift up, set up, guidance to an extreme where synchronicity couldn’t be mistaken for anything less than guidance and trust. I had to wade through the gauntlets of naysayers and lack of support... the ‘wow that’s amazing but i just don’t think YOU can do it’ Some how, all the negative vibes and juju didn’t matter! There were other signs of encouragement, love that led me to have faith in the journey... it just kept building the courage to continue onwards. In this day where so many live in fear and have a scarcity complex, disconnecting from our authentic selves, fitting in rather than finding a sense of belonging... we need to be more proactive in lifting each other up not tearing each other down. Find your inner source of encouragement, strength and be brave enough to believe in yourself AND with that courage - lift someone else with a healthy and meaningful dose of encouragement- raising the vibes and positive energy 💗✨💗✨💗✨💗✨💗✨ You never know what a person is feeling, how they are managing a goal or dream or just trying to get unstuck from something. Don’t be the reason someone gives up. Be the reason someone doesn’t stop trying ❣️🙏❣️ #raisethevibe #encouragement

Gratitude is not an attitude, it’s a practice... you have to work at it. 🙏. . The word of the season is “Joy” - we see it everywhere. However, joy is a secondary effect. What we should be seeing on Christmas wrapping paper, coffee mugs, and holiday cards is “Gratitude”. . That’s because joy is tied to the ability to react to your life with gratitude. You have to LEAN HARDER into what you already have. . If I’m not actively practicing gratitude, I start to see criticism, negativity, and anxiety peak through. Especially in our high pressure, high stress environments. . When I concentrate on gratitude, and writing things down, I go through the day LOOKING for gratitude and I appreciate the little things. However, it’s a PRACTICE! If I stop, I see stress taking the reigns again. . I challenge you to write down 10 things (daily!) you’re thankful for through the end of the week. That’s 50 things by Sunday! You’ll get past the obvious ones (like family, health, etc) and start focusing on the tiny things. If you enjoy it, keep it up! . Let’s start here, what is one small thing you’re thankful for today? . For me, I’m thankful for my neighborhood. Our clubhouse is hosting a holiday toy drive dinner party tonight, and I’m looking forward to meeting more of our neighbors. Miracle Question time... . (Inspired by Jonny Bowden.) . So, let me ask you... . What if you could wake up tomorrow with the positive and heathy mind of your dreams? A mind that feels balanced? What would you do then? . The truth is you’d have to maintain it. . A healthy mind does not stay that way by itself. Minds can be a lot like rose bushes... they require careful pruning and constant maintaining. They’re prone to unhealthy thought patterns, grooves, and ruts. Sometimes they may need small adjustments to stay on task or to keep focused on goals. . You absolutely can’t have the healthy mind of your dreams by doing the same things that got you the depressed and anxious mind of your nightmares. After all, don’t forget Einstein’s point, ‘insanity is doing the same thing and expecting different results. . Healthy minds tolerate and manage their behaviour without extreme coping methods. This requires work - it won’t just happen. . Like bodies, healthy minds happen only through regular healthy behaviours: exercising (as effective as an antidepressant if taken regularly) healthy eating, getting regular check-ups (therapy supports every mind) being mindful, practicing gratitude and keeping safe through positive choices. . You’d need to do these things every single day, or for as long as you care more about feeling healthy, happy and vital than you do about feeling negative, sad and depressed. . Final thought? Becoming emotionally unhealthy is probably not your fault, but your healing (and staying healthy) is your responsibility. .
