📌PRACTICE TIP: Students - does this look familiar?!...it's your PRACTICE JOURNAL! (swipe to see both sample pages)🎵 . "WEEK AT A GLANCE" (p.1) At each lesson, we discuss and set goals for the week. This page is also where I write down your assignments and what to focus on. ✏ When you practice each week, remember to review this page before each practice session. 👀 It will help you to remember what we talked about during your lesson and guide your practice - making it more effective. 👌 . "PRACTICE JOURNAL" (p. 2) Now it's YOUR TURN! Before you start the new week, think about some personal goals you'd like to set for yourself. This will help you measure your progress each week. Be sure to also keep record of: (1) what you practiced, 🎶 (2) any questions you'd like to go over in your next lesson, and (3) how long you practiced. 🕦 . Every so often, look back on the progress you've made and be proud of all your hard work! 👍 ... What do you do to have an effective practice session? Please share any tips/tricks for other students! 🎵 . . . . . . #josielongviolin #violinlessons #musiclessons #practicetips #practicejournal #saltlakecityutah #murrayutah #sandyutah #utah #utahmusic #utahmoms #utahdad #musicteacher #musicstudio #violinstudio #violin #music #violinist #beginnerviolin #adamdayviolins #daymurraymusic #utahmusiclessons #utahviolinlessons #utahviolin #adultviolinbeginner #violincase #musictips at Day Murray Music Education House

It's almost Friday! And a long weekend too! I'm finally all caught up with work🏆 😋 I had my school tutoring sessions rescheduled because the snow threw those classes out of whack. I got to work with some basses today and that was REALLY fun!! Admittedly my bass knowledge is not as good as my upper string knowledge but I'll learn with added exposure and the kids are so inspiring to work with ❤️ Very thankful to have that opportunity!! • •Where are my bassists??🙋‍♂️ Say hi! I use a lot of metaphors in my teaching and one of my favorites is to suggest thinking of pressing dough when trying to make a warm, rich sound with the thumbs. WHEW! It's been busy but I've been keeping up with the #100daysofpractice and today is #day16 I love keeping it on date with the new year, haha. Anyhow tonight I worked on some orchestra music after a full day of teaching. STILL working on getting my practice in BEFORE my teaching. . Yesterday, #day15 I spent as a 2 hr orchestra rehearsal. See 1st video, swipe left. . Monday, #day14 is the 2nd video. I spent some time playing my newly learned fiddle tunes. . So I'm keeping up with practice but having a hard time keeping up with posting it! Progress though and I'm getting better. I think it's hard for most of us to get back in routine after the holiday breaks. I know I'm still picking up momentum. 🙂💕🎻 at Arizona

I got a lot done today! 😁 I had a good practice session.... finally worked out fingerings I like for the solo in Ravel (will probably change them four times before the concert 😉). And started reading Murder in G Major (Dun dun DUUUUUUN 🗡️😱) Hahaha! So the back story with the book is that my local library featured it on their Instagram page and of course I'm going to go get it and read that because, hello! 🤣 So far it's kind of hokey. There's a ghost that composes a violin concerto (see, hokey😆) but it's not the worst thing I've read. It's entertaining so I'll let you know how I like it when I'm done. When it snows I get crazy strong urges to snuggle up with a book and forget the world. Can't exactly do that now that I have kids, but I can still get a little reading time in if I'm creative. • • • #thehappyviolist#viola at St. Mary's County, Maryland

Tuesday situation... 🎵 Practicing old repertoire during a teaching break. I like playing previously learned pieces to “see where I’m at” with my current technique. I can *sometimes* figure out what my most current weaknesses are by playing old repertoire and feeling/hearing what is better or worse than the last time I studied it. I’m almost in the mood for something new... wonder what it should be?? 🤔 at New Bern, North Carolina

It’s Monday and I’m back at it, literally just trying to stay consistent for ONE FREAKIN WEEK! 🤪 With everything going on, I’m feeling like that @radiohead song “Spinning Plates” ... I am trying to keep things relatively simple today, playing mostly scales between lessons and rehearsal. I need to start journaling my work... i feel like I’m all over the place with my goals and that is no way to get anything done. 😆 Also, I forgot to share my favorite comments from my #ipracticedinstead post last week, so let me know what you’ve had to give up to practice and I’ll post my favorites on my story! Today, I gave up cooking a homemade meal to practice. 💯🤷🏻‍♀️🎻 at New Bern, North Carolina

Tip: You wouldn't put fabric softener on your instrument, right? It might be fine for your clothes 🧺 and soften your towels, but when you use it to wash your cleaning cloths it leaves a residue and it could be degrading your strings and varnish faster. Instead, when you wash your cleaning cloths, chin rest cloths, instrument covers/bags, anything that will touch your instrument, use vinegar in place of fabric softener! It will NOT make your stuff smell like vinegar I promise! Just use regular white vinegar for your rinse cycle. Not only are you now not using the softener, but the vinegar helps break down any leftover soap residue as well! So much better for the things that touch your instrument (works for the cloths to clean your 👓📱💻 too)! And it's a green choice for the environment! 🌎 Double win!! This is a short clip from the fiddle jam I went to the other day that got me an invite to join a local orchestra. Not my best playing as fiddle is not my expertise, but I'm getting connected with some musicians and that is the goal. . Okay, so my #100daysofpractice posts have been hard to keep up with in the midst of travel, vacation, and starting up 3 beginning violin classes this past week!! So I'm going to do my best to "catch up" a bit in this post and account for the missing days. Why do I feel it's important to catch up? Because I have found that one of the best ways to stick to consistent practice is to account for the reason a day was missed. These are not excuses, just a way of learning what it is that can throw consistent practice off. . #day4 practice achievements included meeting a previous student's mom and acquiring some new music and mental practice prep of the fiddle tunes I'm learning. . #day5 included meeting a previous student for coffee. That's all I can claim, LOL. . #day6 I don't normally practice on Sunday and have no intention of changing that. I find it important to switch up my routine one day a week. . #day7 I flew home after vacation. Travel delays kept me out until 1am. So no practice that day! . #day8 I played more than I've played in weeks! I attended a Fiddle Jam session with about 30 players and we played tune after tune for 2 hours! Then one of the members there invited me to join her that evening at her orchestra rehearsal!! So I switched things around in my schedule to make that happen and played for another 2 hours with a wonderful local orchestra that I'm very excited to have connected with! . #day9 Was a full day of teaching concluded by walking over to a neighbor's house to practice my fiddle tunes for the fiddle contest this Saturday. This neighbor will be backing me up on guitar. So this was a productive evening practice session fixing a few things in my fiddle tunes as well as selecting a couple new tunes to learn before Saturday. I've really got my hands full with taking on this fiddle contest at the last minute! I really don't know how I will do, but I decided it was worth giving it my best shot. at Yuma County Library District

Do you ever wonder why I have paper washi-taped to my workspace? Read on to find out in my first Tuesday Tip of the year! . Think about walking for a moment with me. Picture yourself walking on a cement floor with bare feet...how does it feel as you walk on it? Now think about walking on a plush carpet (still with bare feet)...is it a different experience? What makes one better/worse than the other? . This is best analogy I've heard (thank you, Mr. Michael Sull!) to describe lettering with padding underneath your paper. Just like our knees and feet benefit from a surface with some cushioning as we walk, our nibs also benefit from some 'give' in the writing surface as we work. This padding will help your nib flex and glide easily across the page, and helps avoid the tines catching or puncturing holes in your paper! . There are a several ways to provide padding under your paper. You can use a traditional leather writing pad. Or you can use a few sheets of paper (I recommend using larger paper like shown here, so you can move your page as needed while you work). You can even use one of those self-healing cutting mats! No matter what you choose, you'll avoid unnecessary frustration! . . . #debordstudios #midwestcalligrapher #minnesotaartist #lefthandedcalligrapher #learncalligraphy #handlettering #calligraphy #learnlettering #practicemakesprogress #calligraphytips #practicetips #calligraphypractice #trysomethingnew #calligraphybasics #calligraphybeginner #handletteringbasics #calligraphyeveryday #calligraphylove #northwoodscalligrapher #twincitiescalligraphy

So here’s the absolute truth: I need to practice like, a lot. I’m starting a new routine and I have huge anxiety about it because motivation has been scarce around here. My baby boy is FINALLY figuring out how to entertain himself while I’m practicing, even though he definitely loves trying to play piano while I’m doing it. 🤪 So, am I the only one starting this year with a significant practicing deficit? I seriously try to keep my account/posts authentic, so if I’m not posting then that usually means I’m not practicing! I’m not ready for #100daysofpractice yet bc #momlifeforreal BUT, I’m going to try to keep things going and get things going on a consistent and procrastination-free basis... starting with one week, then another, and then maybe a whole month... etc. 💪🏼🎻 I got this. at New Bern, North Carolina

Even though the future seems far away, it is actually beginning now. . I love these words and it is a great reminder to use the present moment to pursue our goals intentionally. For a musician, that often means focused and intentional practice. . We’ve started a practice challenge this semester and I have some tips to share! 1) use circle spots ⭕️. Circle the trickiest parts and start there. Work that until you are feeling confident. 2) try playing at different tempi. 3) take an improv break if you’re getting frustrated, then come back fresh and break it down into smaller chunks. 4) use a metronome! Count out loud! 5) make it more fun by adding swing rhythms or dotted rhythms. Rhythm practice is an awesome way to improve. at Oconee County, Georgia

Try this: shoot from the hip. What I mean by that is, play without too much thought. For me, I hear a concept in my mind before I’ve played it. So sometimes if I just sit down and go for it, I fail. Which is good, because I just found a weak spot. Work at that until you solidify the idea that you heard in your head. You may have just added a new lick you’ll use for the rest of your life. In this clip I didn’t fail, which means my mind and my body are working at the same pace. . . . . . . . . . . #drums #drumlessons #improvisation #practicetips #drumlife #musicianforhire #hiredgun #houston_insta #drummersofhouston #zildjian #remodrumheads #ludwig #vicfirth @zildjiancompany @remopercussion @vicfirth @ludwigdrumshq at Houston, Texas

#100daysofpractice #day3 Yep, got it in tonight after skiing! 🙌🎻 . Did some fingered memory work tonight since this gorgeous violin my dad made by hand is not in playing condition right now. The sound post has fallen over, it's missing a string, and the bridge is too short. Oh well! I made the most of the situation and spent a good amount of time memorizing those fiddle tunes I'm trying to learn for the contest. . Yes, you read that right! My dad made this violin. You asked, I tried! Mendelssohn practice tips!! Isolate, isolate, isolate, isolate. I find it VERY helpful to tongue the entire passage on one note (long B is best for me because of resistance and oral cavity shape.) this technique allows for you to focus ONLY on the articulation. And if you do each note at once, then you are also doing some slow note work! . The screen blinks black because of the titles... I’m going to try to fix this for next time! 🎉⭐️100/100⭐️🎉 I FINISHED 100 DAYS OF PRACTICE! ••••••••••••••••••••••••• Okay, story time. . The first video was taken while practicing today. The second video was from pre-screen prep nearly a year ago. I don’t know about you, but I hear a world of difference and, besides practice, there are so many reasons for it. . When I took that second video, I had only been practicing seriously again for a few months. For most of the year preceding, I had given up on music. I had decided to finish out my Music Industry Studies degree, take the LSAT, and go to law school. I was done with flute and performing and really music in general. I was lucky to even step in to a practice room for 30 minutes a day, if at all. There are so many reasons I could list for doing this, but they aren’t that important. . After a year of studying, purchasing review books and software, and registering for the LSAT (all this stuff is NOT cheap, y’all) I had a major crisis moment. Being a step away from leaving flute, it became so clear to me that I could never abandon it. Despite all of my negative feelings towards my journey as a musician up to that point, actually leaving it all was truly unimaginable to me. . From that point forward, it was a mad dash to prepare for grad school auditions. I dropped my industry studies degree, completed my business minor, forfeited my chair for the LSAT (along with a boatload of money 😅), and put everything I had in to making my true dream happen. Even after getting denied to my initial top pick school, I ended up with multiple options to study with amazing teachers and can now say I’m at the absolute best place for me with the best people working towards my musical dream! . Music is a tough world to live in, but you CAN make it. You CAN achieve your dreams. Even a step away from leaving it all, you CAN do it! . With all of that said, now is time to say goodbye to this crazy 100 Days journey. Thank you to everyone for your support, kind messages, and encouragement. More videos will come, but first, I’m taking a day or two off of flute 😂

99/100 Tomorrow is my... . LAST . DAY . Of 100 Days of Practice!! . I wish I could say I have something special planned, but I absolutely don’t 😅 ••••••••••••••••••••••••• This has definitely taken the crown for “favorite section of Zyman”. To me, it sounds like some sort of sinister, evil waltz. I’m 100% convinced this sonata would make a great video game soundtrack and this section would totally be a boss battle. . As is a constant issue for me, my biggest hurdle in this section is note cracking. It’s coming from two things... 1) When I take a breath in, I hold it for just a split second. Even with a relaxed, open breath, I start playing with a closed throat because of this. 2) I work way too hard for those 3rd octave notes. When it’s finally time to jump back down to lower registers, the amount of air I’m using is far too much. . There are tons of things I can do to help with these issues (sing and play, harmonics, play everything piano, etc.) but I think the best thing right now is to just be hyper aware of my tendencies at all times. It might benefit me to leave a small note in my flute case to make sure that intention is set during every practice session. . Next steps: Let air flow be continuous from inhale to exhale to inhale. . . . . . . . . #flute #100daysofpractice #musicmajor #flutemusic #flutist #flutists #flutistsofinstagram #100daysofpracticechallenge #floridastate #fsu #orchestra #band #music #gradstudent #practicetips #fluteteacher

98/100 This is practicing as a pet owner 😅 My wonderful cat likes to get in to things she shouldn’t right when I start recording. She always drops it as soon as I start walking towards her, so I know that little stinker is just doing it to get my attention. 97/100 I seriously get so giddy whenever I work on a new Acapella video. It’s just so cool that you can play with people on opposite ends of the world from you or turn yourself in to a whole flute ensemble. I don’t think I’ll ever not be amazed by technology. . I’ve been working on this arrangement of Elsa’s Procession to the Cathedral for flute choir for about two months now. It’s a piece I’ve played a million times with wind ensembles and it’s one of the few I don’t get tired of. It’s just so beautiful! . My arrangement calls for piccolo, alto, and bass flute, but that isn’t quite possible right now. Instead, I’ve transposed the alto part and cut the picc part to make it an all C flute arrangement. In addition, the solo parts are being totally ignored since I didn’t want to make this a 15 frame video, so balance is a bit wonky. Still a bit more work to do to get the entire piece finished, but I’m happy with the results so far! . . . . . . . #flute #100daysofpractice #musicmajor #flutemusic #flutist #flutists #flutistsofinstagram #100daysofpracticechallenge #floridastate #fsu #orchestra #band #music #gradstudent #practicetips #fluteteacher #acapellaapp

96/100 There are FIVE puppies in the house I’m currently in and I will be genuinely surprised if I don’t leave with a dog when the holidays are over 😅 . (However, my lungs are NOT thrilled about these furballs) ••••••••••••••••••••••••••• Ugh, Hindemith. . As a composer, I think he’s fine but the Symphonic Metamorphosis Andantino excerpt is my absolute least favorite to play. It’s nails on a chalkboard to me. . This excerpt requires a legato double tongue and an ability to make music while staying somewhat in the background. For whatever reason, my naturally light double tongue becomes super heavy in this excerpt and it just feels clunky. I’m also not naturally a “stay in the background” kind of person, so it’s a bit of an extra effort to do so 😂 . In this video, I hear a ton of tension in the 3rd octave. Way, way more than is usually there. I can feel every part of my body tensing as I play this excerpt. It’s not fun, really. This tension is also causing issues in the arpeggiated section, specifically when I play the Eb-Ab-F iteration of the sequence. in addition, my breaths are totally overextending the space between notes. This excerpt is still in need of some major T.L.C! . Next steps: Bring backstroke of double tongue further forward to keep both parts close together and minimize air disturbance. . . . . . #flute #100daysofpractice #musicmajor #flutemusic #flutist #flutists #flutistsofinstagram #100daysofpracticechallenge #floridastate #fsu #orchestra #band #music #gradstudent #practicetips #fluteteacher

95/100 I DID THE MENDELSSOHN SCHERZO EXCERPT IN ONE BREATH!!! . AND I didn’t have to take it 30 clicks over tempo! This Christmas, Santa gave me LUNGS 🙌🏻👌🏻💪🏻😂 . In all seriousness, it’s kind of crazy to think about where I’ve come from since starting grad school. At the beginning of the semester I could hardly play this excerpt. Even making the first breath was a struggle. Now, it’s my go-to excerpt and I can try silly, fun stuff like this without having to worry about “Can I even play the notes?” . I’m nearing the end of 100 Days and I’m so happy having embarked on this journey. I’m going to avoid getting all mushy right now because that will come in a few days 😅 . Also, my new practice buddy provided all the encouragement I could ever need. This video is dedicated to him (who will be named soon! Thank you everyone for your suggestions!) . . . . . . . . . #flute #100daysofpractice #musicmajor #flutemusic #flutist #flutists #flutistsofinstagram #100daysofpracticechallenge #floridastate #fsu #orchestra #band #music #gradstudent #practicetips #fluteteacher #tvf

94/100 Tomorrow is Christmas! 🎄🎉⭐️ This is absolutely my favorite holiday! Wishing everyone a bright, happy holidays! ••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••• I’ve got a little practice buddy today! . Well, he’s not actually mine. This little yarn pom-pom birdie is a gift for someone else, but I’ll be making myself another soon! I’m really turning in to a Pinterest mom 😂😅 . Anyways, this little birdie is helping me to bring awareness to my right thumb. My hand setup is SUPER unbalanced currently. I hold the majority of the weight of the flute with my left hand and my right pinky and it makes everything really difficult. Having some extra weight pulling down on the end of the flute is forcing me to support from the thumb and is releasing pressure from my left hand as a result! Also, it’s a nice little reminder to not let my movements get too crazy and exaggerated. Wouldn’t want my new little friend to take a tumble! . 100% will be taking name suggestions when I make one for myself. . . . . . . . #flute #100daysofpractice #musicmajor #flutemusic #flutist #flutists #flutistsofinstagram #100daysofpracticechallenge #floridastate #fsu #orchestra #band #music #gradstudent #practicetips #fluteteacher

93/100 It’s two days until Christmas and I have yet to wrap a single gift. Santa might need to send a few elves my way 😅 ••••••••••••••••••••••••••• I’ve always struggled with practicing slow movements. There’s so much great music to be made in them, but I kinda get a bit bored working through those details 🤭 Terrible, I know. . Part of my issue with practicing these slow movements is because the accompaniment always adds so much to these lyrical sections. Without it, I just feel a bit lost and aimless. That’s where the not-always-a-serious-practice-tool-but-has-potential, Acapella comes in handy! . It felt so much easier to float the sound in this opening of the second movement of the Mercadante Concerto in e minor. The directions of the phrase definitely made more sense (even if I didn’t always show that in my playing. Oops) . Next steps: Decide on convincing ornamentation (there are an endless number of interpretations ohmygod) . Fun fact: I first played this piece my sophomore year of undergrad and called Mercadante the “Moody Mozart”. Go listen to the first movement and tell me you don’t get that same vibe. . . . . . . #flute #100daysofpractice #musicmajor #flutemusic #flutist #flutists #flutistsofinstagram #100daysofpracticechallenge #floridastate #fsu #orchestra #band #music #gradstudent #practicetips #fluteteacher

Part 2!! One of my favorite things about Potters is that from the moment you walk in or call you are being helped by MUSICIANS who obviously love what they do! I needed a spare bow (the 🌈 one) and couldn't get in to the shop. I called and just from listening to my needs they found the perfect bow for me! It was exactly what I needed! They have experts in every department and can help with anything you need. I send all my students to Potter's and they are the only people I'll let touch my beloved instruments! The Potters workshop offers adjustments, repairs, conservation, and restoration services. Also housed in their historic 1890 building is the John Kendall Recital Hall (I'd love to perform there!). Potters offers informative programs, masterclasses and recitals, often free! In addition to the instruments and bows that they travel the world to find, they have a full inventory of sheet music, rosins, chin and shoulder rests, and any accessories you'd ever need (or want, hello @luxitune 😍)! Violin shops are an excellent resource to find local qualified teachers or ensembles, music community events and of course other musicians. And even if you aren't local, you can still take advantage of their website to find your perfect instrument. In fact, the fist time I heard about Potters was when I lived in NC and another teacher insisted all her students use Potter's! If you live in the US, Potters should be your first call for expert advice on your next instrument. And when you do call you'll probably get Derek so say hi from me (he's also a violist!) 📞👋😍 I've learned so much from my collaboration in just the past few days! It's been such a privilege to represent Potter Violins and I'm so glad to have had the opportunity to introduce them to a new audience! Mr. Potter and Mr. Kelly have built a truly unique business and I know they can't wait to hear from you! #thehappyviolist #viola at St. Mary's County, Maryland

This is a two part post I did during my @potter_violins takeover and I'd like to share it here too. Violin shops are an invaluable resource! ♥️ ~~~~~"I've been saving this post for today because it's something I feel so strongly about. Do you know how important your local Violin Shop is?? A lot of people only think about their shop when they need a repair. But a place like Potter Violins is so much more than that! I can already tell this is going to be a two part post so look for the next post soon! 😍 We all know you can buy and rent instruments from Potters. But why should you when you can get some cheap "treasure" from eBay or Craigslist. The big secret no one knows is that most of the time, the "cheap" violin or cello you found online needs hundreds, if not thousands of dollars of work to get it in proper playing condition. As a teacher, I've seen so many students come in with their bargain finds only to be told there's a seam open or a crack or all the pegs need fixed or the strings are so high my poor student will cry trying to play it! And don't even get me started on the bows. If they aren't warped they at least need a rehair. The point is, Potters has properly set up instruments that you can either buy or rent. And most shops, will let you apply the purchase price to another instrument when you physically or musically outgrow it! It's SO HARD to make a bad violin sound good. Having a quality instrument from day one will make playing easier and that makes progress easier too. The Potter shop philosophy is that by providing professional luthier services and beautiful instruments at an affordable cost they can bring the gift of music into the home of every child. ♥️!" #thehappyviolist #Viola at St. Mary's County, Maryland

92/100 Currently spending my evening being a middle-aged Pinterest mom and my life feels complete 😂 ••••••••••••••••••••••••• The second of the two Russian Easter Overture excerpts is no where near as comfortable for me as the first excerpt is. Moving between registers cleanly and keeping the double tonguing even is a struggle. I start to hold a ton of tension in my lips and start to “crush” the sound. . To help release tension, I’m giving myself a “rest” beat every quarter note. Giving my tongue a break every once in a while is helping me to keep my air stable and let my lips stay relaxed. . In an effort to keep momentum going, I can definitely hear myself rushing through some beats. On top of that, I’m absolutely still crushing the tone when I move up to the high Abs and G. . Next steps: Keep loose and easy during longer stretches of double tonguing. . (Sorry if you’ve sent me a message or comment this past week and I haven’t gotten back to you! Taking advantage of this break to spend time with family and get some much needed relaxation so I’m not always connected!) . . . . . #flute #100daysofpractice #musicmajor #flutemusic #flutist #flutists #flutistsofinstagram #100daysofpracticechallenge #floridastate #fsu #orchestra #band #music #gradstudent #practicetips #fluteteacher

More #practicetips! Many people use the new year to rededicate themselves to good practice habits. This year instead of aiming for a time goal, make your goal to practice SMARTER!!!! Instead of just playing a passage over and over again, STOP and diagnose what the problem is, make a plan, and be creative until you find the solution! Maybe it’s one interval in the passage that is tripping you up, maybe it’s a rhythm issue, maybe your embouchure position is causing the note to crack whatever it is figure out the cause and find creative practice solutions. #happypracticing #practice #practicesmarternotharder #flute #woodwind #oboe #clarinet #saxophone #bassoon #trumpet #horn #trombone #tuba #euphonium #percussion #piano #violin #100daysofpractice at Mississippi State University

91/100 I FINALLY got my new headjoint sized for my flute (it’s only four months late 😅) and it feels like a totally different instrument now! Super excited to get to (re)explore the possibilities of this combo! ••••••••••••••••••••••••••••• I think the first of the two Russian Easter Overture excerpts is one of my “breath of fresh air” excerpts. It’s kind of nice to just turn on “double tongue mode” and not have to stress out the entire time about register changes, lining up the fingers, etc. (I’m looking at you, Hindemith 😡). As a whole, I definitely tend to favor the articulated excerpts like this and the Mendelssohn Scherzo. . While this is one of my more comfortable excerpts, I do struggle a bit in the more lyrical section. I build up a lot of stale air after the sustained double tongue section and struggle to balance releasing it and getting more air in while not wrecking the legato line. To add to that, I think I can count on one hand the number of times I’ve gotten that low C to speak properly 🤷🏻‍♂️ . In this video, I’m pretty happy with the first half but not with the second. For all the before mentioned reasons, it just doesn’t sound easy to me. My keyword is “flow” and it definitely doesn’t have any right now. . Next steps: Balance expelling stale air through the nose with increased air pressure to relieve some tension during inhales in the legato section. . . . . . . . . . #flute #100daysofpractice #musicmajor #flutemusic #flutist #flutists #flutistsofinstagram #100daysofpracticechallenge #floridastate #fsu #orchestra #band #music #gradstudent #practicetips #fluteteacher
