#fridaypresscrew . . I finally have some sunshine, some energy, motivation, and free time all on the same day 🎉 . This is a bunch of sped up #handstand work, both #halftuckpress and #toetappuppypress 🙃 . AND I decided to work the scary stuff (jumping in) and whaddaya know??! I jumped into #tuckhandstand on my first try! And it felt and looked decent?! Yay! . And also got a jump to #straddlehandstand on my second try! So guess my plan of learning by osmosis is working 😂 . I haven’t posted a video in a while so I thought I’d give all of you all a little update on my #questforthepress. Some days my body just doesn’t want to work and yesterday was definitely one of those days BUT @ashleydance pushed me to fight through and clearly by her expression at the end of the video I think I made her happy haha 😂 Still working on locking that line and remembering to BREATHE. Day 5 of #thankfulforinversions is a half pike. This is so much harder than it looks! My first good pike handstand hold and it was only like 4 seconds. 😂🙈 Such an @ab_asanas workout! . . I’m always having a hard time figuring out a balance between pictures and videos. I personally love that videos show the entire process and how I can see myself improve. I know pictures do this as well, I see so many cool transformation pictures. But I’m such a visual person and I love to see your (and my) entire process, see you fail, see you improve, and see you experiment through videos. It’s also so much easier to learn that way too! Mum Truth: Babies are hard. I've nothing to post in the last few days bc I've not been glamorous, fit, or done anything worth filming. In fact, my bub produced the worst day to date, with a 12 hour crying fest. But the one thing I know for sure is that the sun will rise on a new day. So here's to baby taking a bottle for the first time, visits with friends, quiet drives, successful errand runs, wearing makeup and my first day training in the studio. Out of frame again and feeling jelly all over today and my presses are terrible but what a blessing it is to be on my hands and be able to come for practice. Great class by @yrc.yoga today and I realised that no matter how many times you do a pose there is always something to learn when you do it again and something valuable you can learn from others. Sometimes it gives you a Eureka moment. Also Yoga Lab CBD has a half day unlimited promotion now till 30th Nov. Unlimited classes (weekday 7am to 12.15pm and all weekend classes) for a month at CBD outlet. At 75 dollars ☻ So if you are a #yogaddict check it out. **PIKE PRESS HANDSTAND DRILLS**. . 🙌Paschimottanasana. . . . 🙌Pike Compression Drill. Pike compression is the ability to bring your legs up towards your face/chest. . . 🙌Navasana to Ardha Navasana with a block between thighs. . . 🙌Navasana to Ardha Navasana with a block between thighs and second block between hands. Touch toes to wrist. . 🙌Forward Fold with the balls of your feet on blocks to open up the hamstrings and fascial back line of the body. . . 🙌Forward Fold lifting and lowering heels. Inhale as you rock your weight slightly back, exhale all the breath out and rock your weight forward into your hands. Arms straight, shoulders spread, press down firmly into your hands. Allow the back of your body/shoulders/ribs to be supported by the wall behind you. . . 🙌Headless Headstand with two blocks. Set up as shown. One block vertical an inch from the wall. The other block horizontal touching the wall, with an inch hanging over the edge of the bottom block. Wrap your fingers around the bottom block (don't pull, or you the whole thing will topple, gently touch) and walk your feet in until the upper block presses into your upper back. Press down through your forearms. Lift and spread your shoulders. Keep your upper back pressing I into the upper block the entire time. This will help you find your abs. If done correctly your head will not touch the floor. . . 🙌Pike Press with wall support. Stretch your wrists first! Use a bolster against the wall for extra cushion. Play with the distance of the hands from the wall. The further away the easier the press will be, but the harder it will be on your wrists and vice versa. . . 👣Dirty feet are part of the job as a yoga teacher. It's a side effect of walking around barefoot all the time. Now I have a safe, non-toxic, plant based wipe that I can bring anywhere (also comes in smaller packages that you can slip easily into your purse) and use to wipe my hands, feet or anything else I want to clean. We associate discomfort with “bad”, but if we can change our mindset to be happy during uncomfortable situations, we won’t mind being uncomfortable. Why is that good? Discomfort means we are out of our comfort zone and that’s were all growth (mental, physical and spiritual) happens! This little flow was just what my body needed. I’ve been getting some questions about how to work toward splits, and the simple answer is just to practice the splits. A little every day will help you progress. But the more complicated answer is everyone’s body is different so there may be other things that will help. The other pose that helped me was frog, which I put in this flow. I try not to play favorites but frog is probably my favorite pose in the world. Sorry other poses. Love you guys too. 🍄 #PropandProud 🍄 . Day 6: (Thursday) . #yogawheel or #exerciseball . Moving right along!! So many creative uses of furniture today! (A little spoiler alert: we will be using our sofas/couches/cushions on another day, so if you are catching up, try to save your sofa and use a different furniture idea for day 5!! Or if you already used the couch, be thinking of more ideas 😉) . Okay--we're back with a more traditional prop today: a yoga wheel or an exercise ball. Use any large ball or round object if you don't have either of these! . One of my favorite uses for wheel is press drills. 💪🙃 I actually started out learning to press using my wheel behind my head at the wall, and then I moved on to using it under my feet away from the wall. . If you are working on your #splitpress, try this drill. Place your hands about three hand lengths in front of the wheel. I showed this at the beginning of the video. Then step one foot onto the wheel, and extend the other into a standing split. The key for me is ensuring I am centering all of my weight directly over my wrists. If you're too far away or too close, you won't feel stable or light enough to press. See how my body is already in a line.... and then that bottom leg can just float up with a slight shift forward! 🎉🎈 Try to come to a straight handstand and then slowly switch legs and lower the opposite foot back to the wheel, keeping the other leg extended straight up as long as possible. It's tougher than it looks! Just keeping the wheel from rolling is challenge enough 😂 . Finally I'm showing some of my favorite shoulder openers that I like to do whenever I have my wheel out.
