The Police High Command is advising members of the public who may have questions or concerns regarding the categories of exempted persons under the current curfew order, to contact the JCF COVID-19 Command Centre at 876-702-5103 or 876-702-5106. The COVID-19 Command Centre is operating 24 hours each day and is available to answer questions and provide clarification when needed. For all emergency matters, persons are asked to call the Police Emergency Communication Centre (PECC) at 119. Additionally, the public is being reminded that the Constabulary intends to strictly enforce the provisions under the Disaster Risk Management Act to help keep you safe. For persons who have been exempted, a valid work photo identification must be presented to an officer when requested as well as provide a reason for being out during the hours of the curfew. Exempted categories of persons should only be outside their premises if they are either heading to work or heading home from work or any other activity associated with their jobs. An exemption is not an indication that persons should be outside their premises without good reason. Jamaica now has 54 Ventilators, after 29 that were ordered under an European Union (EU) programme arrived just in time to help fight one of Jamaica's biggest threats in living memory. The 29 ventilators, including six mobile and 23 for ICUs were delivered to Minister of Health and Wellness, Dr Christopher Tufton, by EU Ambassador to Jamaica Nolgorzxata Wasilewska, at a ceremony held at Medical Link Ltd on Cargill Avenue in St Andrew. This latest addition to the 25 already in operation takes to 54 the number of ventilators available in the island, and any demand in excess of that amount will see the curve rising, leaving patient demand above this capacity at risk. The 29 Ventilators were purchased at a cost of €1 million. Approximately 33 Trini nationals have been left stranded in Barbados as their country, the red and black refused to accept them back in the Island once more. This latest decision is a part of Trinidad and Tobago plan to reduce the spread of the virus. Reportedly, the Trini’s were to have boarded a Condor flight that left Barbados on Wednesday, April 8 for their homeland but their government denied the landing request. According to the Barbados Nation News, Philip Ramdial, spokesperson for the group, said the T&T government has decided to send COVID-19 testing kits to Barbados under the condition that they will all be tested before being allowed to return to their homeland. The news site also quoted Ramdial saying β€œWe all broke down in tears when we got that news.” Barbados Nation News also said it’s Health Minister Jeffrey Bostic, last Sunday, April 4, announced that the group of Trinidadians had been cleared of any symptoms of the coronavirus. The Trini’s will have wait for the green light to be given by their government. According to the US Department of Labor, another 6.6 million people filed for unemployment benefits last week, as American workers continue to suffer from devastating job losses, furloughs and reduced hours during the coronavirus pandemic. Altogether, about 16.8 million American workers are jobless. About 11% of the US labor force has filed initial claims for jobless benefits in just the prior three weeks alone. About 7.5 million workers filed for their second week of benefits or more last week. It was the second-largest number of initial unemployment claims in history since the Department of Labor started tracking the data in 1967. The oldest tennis tournament in the world Wimbledon, which would have generated revenue of about US$300 million this year had it not been cancelled due to the coronavirus, is now going to get a huge payday because of it. The payday comes courtesy of a pandemic risk insurance which Wimbledon has been paying for the past 17 years, but has never cashed in on it until now. Wimbledon will collect US$141 million from his insurers, to whom it has paid a total of US$34 million in premiums at US$2 million a year. Would you insure your business, whatever it is? Following the closure of the ports to incoming passengers in Jamaica, the government has announced that they are examining it for a review. The Prime Minister stated that over the last few days he has heard the cries and pleas from Jamaicans who want to come home. He also dispelled rumours that ports are closed in general and that it impacts trade, saying "none of the orders we have put in place affects trade" he continued, "as a matter of fact our ports and airports are now open, wide open to cargo, so send in and out all the cargo, let's keep the economy turning over." This was revealed by Prime Minister Andrew Holness, today April 8, during a digital press conference. PM Holness then addressed the matter of Jamaicans who have made requests to come home and others who were sent on government-sponsored programmes where employers have noted they can't keep them understanding the COVID crisis and so, the government knows it can't keep its borders closed indefinitely. ACKEEπŸ‡―πŸ‡²(Jamaica’s national fruit) AVOCADOSπŸ₯‘ APPLE CAKE🍎 No, that’s not scrambled eggs. That’s Ackee, Jamaica’s national fruit, originally native to West Africa. Ackee is usually eaten with Saltfish, but you can make it with anything. How do you cook Ackee? πŸ€” Well, there’s canned ackee (quicker cook time) but you are more than welcome to boil uncooked ackee. For this, I used canned ackee and made it how one would cook and season meat, just regular seasonings for taste. @officialmackab inspired this Ackee meal for me, as he loves to make ackee with things like Kale and Chickpeas. I also added onions, scallion and sweet peppers. For seasonings, scotch bonnet, seasoned salt, black pepper, onion powder and garlic powder. I let it cook on low-medium heat for 10-15 minutes before eating. β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€” VEGAN APPLE CAKE (Mom made this☺️) 1) 2 Apples 2) 1 1/2 cup flour 3) 1/3 cup brown sugar 4) Apple Butter 5) Coconut Oil 6) 1 tbsp Cinnamon 7) 1 3/4 Baking Powder 8) 1 tbsp Vanilla Extract 9) 1/2 cup Oat Milk 10) 1 Flax Egg (Preheat for 350F and bake for 35 minutesπŸ˜‹)

The Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) urges governments in the Caribbean to ensure that healthcare workers have access to personal protective equipment and supplies needed to care for patients affected by the coronavirus. The plea came following concerns by medical representatives within the region about the need for medical masks and additional protective gears. According to PAHO’s Director, Dr. Carissa F. Etienne, "shortages of the most basic protective equipment leave doctors, nurses and other frontline workers dangerously vulnerable as they care for COVID-19 patients." Approximately, 384,435 confirmed cases of COVID-19 have been reported in the Americas and 11,270 people have, unfortunately, lost their lives. Director Etienne also noted that β€œin just seven days, we witnessed cases and deaths more than double in our region," and that β€œthe pandemic is accelerating rapidly”. She urges governments to prepare and respond to the matters speedily. She was speaking during a press briefing on Tuesday, April 7. https://bit.ly/2xVYaLg #JamaicaTodayLocalNewsMDN1 #LocalNews #localnewspaper #jamaicanews #jamaicannews #newsalert #newsalerts #jamaicaJM #jamaicansbelike #876life #Jamaicalife #jamaicans #wilikklebutwitallawah #876jamaica #876streets #proudjamaicans #caribbean

Some St Lucians say they prefer to die of the coronavirus than from hunger, and are blaming their empty cupboards on the lack of online shopping, as they endured a week-long 24-hr curfew to stem the spread of the virus. However, all this was to no avail, as they flocked city supermarkets the minute the curfew came to an end yesterday morning April 7. The rush on business premises across the island, which has made a mockery of social distancing, prompted the authorities to renew it, yes, but this time with a 10-hour curfew to allow people enough time - 14 hours from 5:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. to stock food and medicine, and go to the bank. The island is even split into two zones and people are made to stay where they are. Only two people are allowed in a vehicle travelling within a zone. https://bit.ly/3e3DkKt #JamaicaTodayLocalNewsMDN1 #LocalNews #localnewspaper #jamaicanews #jamaicannews #newsalert #newsalerts #jamaicaJM #jamaicansbelike #876life #Jamaicalife #jamaicans #wilikklebutwitallawah #876jamaica #876streets #proudjamaicans #caribbean #RoniegoMissic
