I talk a lot about trauma and childhood trauma and although I have written a lot about it offline have not put much here so thought I would do a few posts on trauma, emphasising childhood trauma and its insidious impacts. • • The list above is not exhaustive, trauma can occur in many situations and has a lot to do with the individuals particular circumstances, resilience and existing support systems. Something I find very traumatic may be dealt with more lightly by someone who has a different background to me, or who may not have the same sensitivities as I do. We are all different and have differing levels of resilience based on our experiences. One bit of good news is that resilience can be actively cultivated and I believe this is really important (and empowering). • • I will talk about how trauma can impact the parenting journey and some of my struggles. Today I want to chat a bit about SAD. Anyone else get the winter blues? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) affects thousands of people every year as a severe form of winter depression. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Symptoms: ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ - chronic fatigue - anxiety - social irritability - social withdrawal - lack of concentration ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ SAD is accompanied by a drop in serotonin during these colder months and a new study has shown that the protein that helps transport serotonin back to the brain cell is higher during summer than the winter for those with SAD. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Why is this important? Well imagine you were hungry and a server brought you food, but before you were finished, the server took the food away and brought it back to the kitchen! Your brain does the same with chemistry. Sometimes the most important approach to better your mental health is by addressing the basics: food, sleep, and exercise. Whether you’re grieving, feeling anxious, depressed or any other intense emotion or feeling, your basic functioning is a critical part of making it through the experience. It’s perfectly OK for you to not be able to always try to be introspective, self-reflective, and highly motivated to explore your internal self. Sometimes you can’t do that and sometimes that isn’t even helpful. In these kind of moments, I recommend thinking about one tiny thing you can do to improve your nutrition, sleep, and exercise. Even if the tiny thing you decide to do doesn’t turn your body into a ~temple~ at least you’re trying to take care of yourself and that is courageous and admirable @alexpack.therapy

EMOTIONS ARE AT THE CENTRE OF OUR BEING Did you know that right up to the Enlightenment God was at the centre of the universe? Society, culture, politics, art and language to name a few made God or religion the heart & art of living and being in this world. Human existence got its meaning from, with and in God. God was the rule of law. After the Renaissance "I" or the "person" became the centre of the universe. Descartes said: I think therefore I am. God was pushed out and the human person became the very very heart of living in the world. With the eclipse of age of the Enlightenment and the beginning of the Post-modern age "experience" or "feelings" became the very centre of the world and how we related to it. Our experiences define what truth is and how we experience the world. Our experiences give meaning to our worlds. Therefore it is important to understand emotions and the power of emotions for us today. Our emotions are our gateway to understanding self and others. It is untrained personals providing inaccurate information. And causing more harm than good to those in need . As she said she charges for her services and steppingstones will charge for some of the services we provide but we do so as we are the ones who put the blood sweat and tears into our work. Who work more than our workshops and therapy researching, I standing talking to those who seek out help. If you are NOT TRAINED do not act like you are , you will end up hurting those you are trying to help. ALWAYS SEEK ADVISE FROM A PROFESSIONAL. I know it is scary but we have the expertise.
