I know it Christmas already, however this is my newest account and I love Halloween and all it’s creativity. This year was the first year I tried to carve a pumpkin and I went all out!! Last time I carved a pumpkin was when I was a child and all I remember was how gross it was pulling the guts out! (I still get that same gross feeling inside when I touch it) haha For first timers: make sure you take into consideration that you have to carve down an inch before the light will shine through 😅. A couple of learning curves for me. I used a reference photo of a pumpkin that looks similar to this and I am now realizing that it probably wasn’t a real pumpkin because it didn’t appear to have any thick edges. Which had deceived me to thinking I just had to carve the outer layer only (See photo 3). So I drew out my design and carved the outer layer, just to find out that there is no way for the light to shine through! 🙄 (See photo 2). I then carved and carved and carved in one spot till I found the light shining through a VERY thin and delicate layer of pumpkin. Pretty much an entire inch. 😓 How was I going to know where the hell my design is supposed to be if I have to slice it down an inch!?! 🤔 “Take a knife and stab around the edges just enough so you can see the general Outline of your piece. Then slice off just enough so you have a solid surface that you lightly carve away. Don’t stab it all the way through or it might be fucked right up! No pressure.” Surprisingly, it actually turned out okay! This took me... almost a week and a half. I would have just carved each spot down individually without slicing it but that one spot took me the entire day to do. Yes, from the start of the day, to the end of the day. Halloween was in 3 days at that point. I did not have the time, so I rushed it with my knife stabbing idea. Also chose to do this because after I carved the top layer i left it out for a day and the softer the pumpkin gets the harder it is to carve because it becomes stringy.
