For the longest time, I was never fully committed to health and wellness. I was struggling a lot with depression and anxiety. I would go to the gym, but I was never fully engaged on a mental level. My mindset was into partying, drinking, staying up late, eating wrong, and I never once thought how this would affect me physically and psychologically. I found that once I had the mindset to be 100 percent dedicated to competing, that was when I finally achieved my best conditioning to this date. The moral of the story is that we all go through this contemplation stage in life, where we are in between weighing out the pros, cons and why we need to make a change. We finally hit that point and prepare to be fully committed to our goals. I wanted to get on stage and be the leanest I had ever been, so I decided to prepare and take action and made those changes in my life. The point is that this is the route everyone will take if they want to make a lifestyle change. Yes, there is relapse at specific points, which is why it is so crucial to have your biological, psychological and social aspects all supporting you towards your goal. Just like myself, I had struggled to make that commitment at one point. Now that I have secured my supports and focused on my mind and motivation, I have been forever grateful for my pure determination and discipline it took to step on stage. When it comes down to it, your mind is what will determine if you will succeed or not. All ready for another 5k 🏃‍♀️ I used to do all my cardio in the gym but since lockdown I have been taking most of my cardio outdoors and I am LOVING IT. . At the moment my fitness goal is to get my time down with my 5k run. Having a goal be it big or small keeps me on track and motivated. I also find what helps keeping motivation levels up is keeping track of every single workout, be it a walk, run, hiit session or a weight session. Keeping track of your times, distance, an extra rep or an increase in weight is all progress! Track the number of workouts you do in a week. See them go up as the weeks go on. This means your getting fitter and stronger! . When you monitor your progress and see how far you’ve come you feel good and determined to keep on going. I was nominated by my good friend and colleague David Gray Alexander to do 22 push-ups a day for 22 days to raise awareness for combat veterans. Some gave all and all gave (and some are still giving) There are 22 vets a day that are committing suicide, this is a small way to raise awareness for that issue. We run an organization called #PJJRRanch. We do equine therapy for veterans and one of our good friends on this mission is 22 kill. We both work countless hours to solve this issue. The push-ups don’t have to be done at one time just get it done... Frank Knox you're up. The rules are simple: * Once you are nominated your 22 days start the following day. * Every day you record yourself doing 22 push-ups. Try your best to reach 22. If that means doing assisted (from your knees) push-ups or that you have to stop and take a break that's fine but try to get them all done in one video. * Every day you must nominate a different person. Try to choose people you think will want to do this and/or have the ability to do it. * And finally, have fun with this. This is a simple and fun way to get the word out about a matter that more people need to be aware about. These brave men and women put their lives on the line to protect our freedoms and its sad that so many veterans feel that suicide is the only way out. Just sitting around... after putting in some more sweaty nonproductive miles. Wait, what?!? 🤨⁣ ⁣ I’ve learned to not place too much value into my GPS watch every time it makes an assessment. I understand it’s just an algorithm and not meant to pass ultimate judgment on me and my self worth. Still, it’s annoying and hard to ignore when it’s so prominently displayed on the summary. 🤦‍♂️⁣ ⁣ I guess I’m not pushing myself hard enough. But if that’s true, then I’m fine with that! On this day, I was genuinely happy to just 1) be able to maintain a decent pace, 2) then work towards negative splits, and 3) NOT feel like I needed to collapse afterwards. It’s a pretty decent success in my book. And at the end of the day, I (and not my watch) am the main person I need to satisfy when running. Well and truly off the wagon. With being in lockdown and having finished university now I can’t actually find an excuse for myself to not be eating better and actually workout like I say I will every year before summer!! Here is my treat for the day but I have had some delicious meals this week which I will share later. I am determined to get there but find myself having a few consistent days and then I give up and end up back where I started feeling horrible about myself. If I started this day last year and stuck to it I’d be much closer to my goals than I am now, so here is to starting today! Hopefully if I can be consistent on here it will push me to keep up with my workouts and reach those goals! Yesterday was day 7️⃣5️⃣ our of 75! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 And wow. I will say, that was the most insane thing I’ve ever done in my life! If I’ve learned anything throughout this whole process it’s that you HAVE TO show up for yourself! Because no one is going to show up for you. If I wanted to skip a workout, or eat 100 pieces of candy, no one was there to stop me from doing that except myself. (And Amy 🤣). But without the motivation, the endless hours thinking of workouts, and of new foods I can try, etc. I would not have ended up here. The results wouldn’t look like this. And wow. Am I so glad they do! I’m beyond proud of myself for accomplishing this! I never in my wildest dreams thought that I would be on this huge fitness journey and that my life would revolve so much around my health and well being, but I’m SO glad that it is! For anyone who is just getting started on their journey, or who just needs an extra little push! Show up for yourself! Do it! And become the best version of yourself! I believe in you, the way I believed in myself! I lost 11 pounds and I’m lower now in weight than I have been since before I had Caroline! Wow! I think the thing that gets me most, is that I did ALL of this at home! With the COVID stuff I had to do all my workouts from home with gyms being closed. And yes it made it THAT much more difficult! But SO worth it! I mean wow! You can do this from home! Only having 3 gym workouts the entire time.. insane. As cliche as it sounds if i could give anyone advice who is beginning their fitness journey it would strictly be to never give up. Fitness will never be an overnight process but damn will it be worth it. Do it for yourself, as well as your physical and mental health. I can’t tell you how many times I have wanted to give up and still have off days till this day. If you want to change the only thing that is stopping you is YOU. We are human!
