#Repost @hartrehab ・・・ FALLING BACK IN YOUR SQUAT 🏋🏽 #MYOliftingseries . I often talk about limited ankle dorsiflexion and how "stiff" ankles can give issues in getting to a particular squat depth. But HOW does this often present? . When we get deep in a squat, we need our tibia to be able to roll on our talus, at a joint called the talocrural joint. If you're having difficulty with this it might appear as: . 👉🏼Going onto your toes in a deeper squat 👉🏼Pinching feeling at the front of the ankle 👉🏼Feel like you want to fall back on your butt 👉🏼Rounding through the low back 👉🏼Tightness feeling in the front of your shin . And that's what this post is about today. The tibialis anterior helps to dorsiflex the ankle... so if you're lacking some range than this muscle will act to keep you balanced, along with a number of other compensation patterns. . I'll share some of my favourite ways to release the tib ant as well as stretches next!! . Tag someone who could benefit from this! . .

Oh mannn, its been 2 months since my hip surgery and its been feeling pretty solid lately with only some minor soreness. It's tough for me going into this rehab based on weights and training I've done in the past, but I need to leave my pride at the door and go back to the basics! My squat form suffered a lot from having FAI, so here all I'm trying to do is make sure I lower into my squat with equal weight through each leg, and coming down neutral! (I notice the butt wink and very little movement through my SI joint, however I'm focusing on hip ROM and control so thats a thought for down the road as I work on hamstring flexibility!) On the right is my daily hip rehab exercises which I try to perform 3 times daily. Ok. This is bullshit. I did morning fasted cardio. Once. I should be shredded by now. I even sweated! Weighted vest @ 55lbs, treadmill incline walk, little under 2 miles in 25 minutes. And by fasted I mean I only had 4 eggs and two pieces of whole wheat bread with mayo. No, I'm not actually trying to get lean. My conditioning is shit and my heart rate was in the 140's to 160's for this. My intention is not to bruise my clients, but some just bruise instantly whereas some don’t bruise at all. We often hear that hip flexors are "tight and weak". And what's the typical intervention? Static stretching... 🤔 I'm not opposed to static stretching at all. It certainly feels good. Personally, I prefer active mobility work to help obtain control in increased ranges of motion. 🤩 But back to the original problem - "tight and weak". Folks often attempt to address the "tight" but what about the "weak" issue?? We all stretch and stretch but do we really see any long-lasting improvements? 🧐 Maybe we should try getting the area stronger...and strong does not mean tight. Ultimately, a combination of mobilizing and strengthening is an effective strategy. 🤗 There are many ways to strengthen the hip flexor area. Exercises: 1) Kettle bell swing. 2) T pushups. 3) Sled push. 4) Stirring the pot. 5) Farmers walk. 6) Ball slams. 7) Rowing. *30 sec work, 15 sec rest between exercises. *1-2 min rest between rounds. *3-4 rounds. .
