You've seen that saying floating around where someone said something like... if you're reading this lower your shoulders, unclench your jaw, and remove you tongue from the roof of your mouth. We hold stress physically in some of the least noticeable ways. 🤔 Anyway, that could pretty much explain how I woke up this morning. I thought my head was gonna explode. I did all my normal things. I drank some water put on my morning oils, and moved on to my morning quiet time. I couldn't shake it. I remembered a few times ago at the chiro I had similar stuff going on he showed me this muscle inside my mouth by my jaw and how to massage it if it happens again.(Sorry if that's TMI.) Anyway, I whipped out some peppermint and massaged that muscle on either side of my mouth. Oh man, that was relaxing! I'll be keeping that little nugget for the next time I wake up feeling like that. #distillery9

1. Sit where you can see a clock or watch easily without moving your head around too much. Do not set an alarm. We are going to aim for 12-15 minutes. This is the average time it usually takes to trigger the bodies relaxation response, which is our opposite to the flight or flight response. There are lots of proven health benefits associated with doing this. 2. Sit upright with your back supported. Make sure you are comfortable. Settle and relax. . 3. Allow the breath to flow naturally, in and out of the nostrils and when ready close the eyes. . . 4. Bring the attention to the air flowing in and out of the nostrils. If the mind wonders, just notice that. Don’t judge. Don’t beat yourself up. Just notice that your mind wondered and gently bring it back to focus on air flowing in and out of the nostrils. This will happen over and over. The point of this practice is to notice and without stress or judgement, return to the breath. Try to notice the small details around this action, for example the air landing on your top lip as you breath out or the air being warmer as it exits the nostrils than as it enters. . . . 5. If you have an itch or if you need to adjust your position then do it. This is not supposed to be a struggle. . . . 6. The mind will wonder, notice and gently return to the breath flowing in and out of the nostrils. The breath should be natural. There’s no need to change it. If it is fast, let it be fast. If it is slow, that’s OK too. . 7. When you feel the urge, take a glance at the clock. If time isn’t up then close the eyes and continue breathing through the nostrils. . 8. If your target time is finished then close the eyes and give yourself a minute or two where you let the mind do whatever it wants. Let it wonder or settle on a thought if that is what comes naturally (you might find the mind is quiet now but it’s OK if not). . 9. When ready open the eyes and slowly bring yourself into the world. . How was it? The breath is your anchor to the present moment experience. Each time you notice the mind wondering and you bring it back you strengthen your ability to be awake and aware in the present moment. at London, United Kingdom
