We had booked our 3 hour aerial tour of the Skeleton Coast in the hopes of seeing some desert elephant and generally getting a unique view of the surroundings. No elephants and the images had to be taken through plexiglass windows. In the end, it probably wasn't worth it and it would be the one thing from our whole trip that we would probably not bother to do again. at Spitzkoppe

In order to get an impression of what is happening at a particular waterhole somewhere in Namibia during the night, I put my camera on timelapse mode and programmed it to take a picture every 30 seconds. The camera made about one thousand pictures untill the battery was empty. This is what happened: several rhinos, a leopard, a large pride of lions, a lioness with two cubs. A big male lion... all came for a drink... It seemed like a lot of you really enjoyed the Kolmanskop shot from a couple days ago - so here's another one! This one, and the shot from a couple days ago are both new ones from me. I had a few others from Kolmanskop that I posted up a long time ago, but then I forgot to go back and dig in to my files and work on more. When I visited, I had the place to myself twice. Late in the evening, and then again early in the morning before small groups of tourists started to arrive for the day. Both times were great, this shot was from the morning session. The light bounces around from one room to the next and if you find the right angle, you can see really cool scenes like this where the warm light from outside starts filtering in through various openings and bounces around from one room to the next, flooding into a cold, dimly lit space. Take a look at a doorway / door that's nearby right now. Can you imagine sand piled half way up the walls, doorway, and door? It's a pretty unique scene to take in! The Namibian Dunes 💛 Repost @davegaiz ・・・ It's amazing what you can create with a little bit of sand (ok a lot of sand!) and a little bit of light! I love it when I'm around sand dunes and catch the dramatic light early or late in the day, especially on the ridges or rims of the dunes. The story goes something like this: years ago, Tommy rescued some birds and relocated them to an area behind the dunes outside #Swakopmund. Since then, they have multiplied and keep coming back to the same spot to spend time with Tommy, their savior, and all the strange people he brings to meet them. . #tommyslivingdeserttour at Swakopmund, Namibia

Catch flights not feelings ✈️ 💓 ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ Back from a momentary break from IG this week and I have to say it was much needed. I’m back at uni again this year doing my honours degree in landscape architecture and I’ll admit I already feel like I’m drowning so it’ll be a few weeks before I can readjust to this life again 😂 plus with everything that’s been going on with insta lately (hashtags not showing up, follower glitch etc) it’s left me feeling more frustrated and disheartened than ever. It’s important to remember that there’s more to life beyond the numbers but I started this account because I wanted to share and show people the beauty of the world around us. The very thought of my posts not reaching as many people as they could had me feeling very down, especially since I’ve been so excited about showing everyone more of Namibia; a place they might’ve not ever considered going to. I’ll still do my best to show you all just how amazing this place can be, but I think it’s important for all of us to remember that it’s okay to have to take a step back when it gets overwhelming. Don’t worry about the amount of followers you’ll lose or the drop in engagement. At the end of the day, it’s your happiness and well being that counts and a stupid number on social media isn’t worth all the stress and frustration. ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ On another note: wishing everyone a Happy Valentine’s Day 🌹 regardless of your relationship status, I hope you all feel the love today 💕 at Walvis Bay

***This is a pano, swipe through to see the whole image - crank your brightness up!*** Trial and error - it’s how you learn, it’s how you grow, it’s how you get better at things. This applies to photography and just about everything else in life. I haven’t shot a ton of astrophotography, but I do enjoy it on the rare occasions that I do. Last May, I was in Namibia and I felt motivated to try capturing a few night shots of the quiver trees under the stars. I had played around with shooting some astro a little bit before, but only 2 or 3 times total maybe. Basically, I knew roughly what I needed to do to capture images at night, but I hadn’t really practiced it and I definitely hadn’t learned all of the little tricks along the way. This was the first time I ever tried to shoot a pano at night under the stars. I made a lot of mistakes, but they are mistakes I can easily fix next time. When I processed the image I was picking apart the different spots where I made mistakes; notice those blurry stars at the top of the image near the center? That’s because at the focal length I was shooting at - 16mm, I shouldn’t have used 30 second exposures. I really shouldn’t have gone beyond 20 seconds to make sure those stars were sharp, and not blurry. But these are little things you pick up as you practice, as you try, and as you make mistakes. I get a lot of DM’s from other photographers asking questions about photography. Please feel free to keep asking away, I’d love to help out with everything I get a chance to answer. If you’re working on improving your photography, keep asking questions. Better yet, keep practicing. Find images that you like, then go shoot and see if you can get a little closer to getting your images to look like the ones that inspire you to go shoot in the first place. Scour the web for free info, go purchase tutorials and register for workshops/tours from photographers that have already made those mistakes, learned from them and perfected their craft. What mistakes have you made and learned from? Capture Info: Sony a7RIII + Sony 16-35 GM Pano created from 9 stitched images shot at: f/2.8, 30 seconds, 16mm, ISO 1600 at Namibia
