I love how the rain brings a new perspective. I was talking with @itsjessuhh last night about the realization that God is creating all around us, all the time. It’s up to us to make the time to take it in. And He is such a good Father to provide life-giving opportunities (like taking in the beauty of a scene after the rain), but leaving it up to us to choose to take those opportunities, so that when we do, we fully appreciate and enjoy them. Live inspired. at Bath, North Carolina

Enroute to see the encased decapitated head of John the Baptist at San Silvestro in Capite, I was rewarded with this wonderful courtyard. This church was built in the 8th century & it’s the most random display of things put together. Yes, I included a photo of the encased head. at San Silvestro in Capite

The Vatican from afar. The beauty of revisiting a major city like Rome is that I can just enjoy Rome without queuing for anything. What a timesaver. at Rome, Italy

Have you heard about Quartiere Coppedè, this wonderfully odd intersection of buildings that a mish mash of architectural designs? Named after its architect, Gino Coppedè, who worked on this area until his death. Worth a visit when in Rome. at Rome, Italy

@chiqee

Campo dei Fiori is known for its day market but I prefer the night atmosphere of this piazza esp with the ominous statue of Giordano Bruno, a philosopher, standing in the middle. He was burned at the stake during the Inquisition for heresy. His statue was resurrected by Freemasons, at the very spot he was killed, as a response of defiance against the Pope. You can standby anywhere in Rome & there will be an interesting story behind it. at Campo dei Fiori Square

@chiqee

Aperitivo in Italy is an important part of the day. It goes from 6pm-9pm & meant as a precursor to dinner, which normally starts after 9pm. I usually don’t participate in aperitivo because I tend to get too full from the snacks. I have terrible discipline. This was a delicious strawberry caipirinha with homemade chips though. at Piazza del Quirinale

One of my favourite buildings in Rome. It’s the 6th largest palace in the world, built around the 16th century, & once housed Kings & Popes in its past. Now it’s currently the presidential palace. at Scuderie del Quirinale

Ciao, Ortigia/Siracusa. 👋🏼 at Ortygia

Lovely Ortigia. I did my last walk about to soak up the Sicilian warmth. at Ortigia Island

5
@chiqee

Next month starting Dec. 13, the feast of St. Lucia will begin. Her Silver Simulacrum will be carried from the Duomo and through the major arteries of Ortigia. I’m kind of sad that I’ll miss it. The videos that I saw of the procession seems pretty intense for the faithfuls. at Cattedrale - Duomo Di Ortigia

5
@chiqee

When the crowds leave Ortigia, it’s mostly the inhabitants on this island left and the piazza is so quiet. There was a man playing in the corner and it carried across the piazza. It was such a beautiful moment that it made me cry. I felt incredibly grateful to be here for this. at Cathedral of Syracuse

5
@chiqee

Duomo di Siracusa is built using the structure of what used to be the Greek Temple of Athena. The original columns remain and the rest is mostly Baroque. It holds the relics of several saints in its chapels. I thought this Duomo was very subtle but yet still captivating. This is an UNESCO protected site. at Cattedrale - Duomo Di Ortigia

9
@chiqee

Taormina is famous for the Teatro Greco, the ruins of what started out as a Greek theatre under Augustus (3rd century) but later converted to a Roman amphitheater to suit their more bloodier spectator sporting events. I was very lucky when the sun came out from what was a cloudy day. at Teatro Antico di Taormina

4
@chiqee

Taormina architectural vibe is a mixture of its precious rulers & turbulent past. Its main street runs along Corso Umberto I from Porta Messina to Porta Catania, just 800m apart. This is a very small resort town. at Taormina

4
@chiqee

Trip to Taormina, a hilltop town that is north of Catania and near Mt Etna. People come here for the beaches below. It’s kind of posh resort town in Sicily. at Taormina
