Kneeling Mermaid This is one of my favourite exercises to do all the way through pregnancy. As the baby gets bigger you get tighter through the hips, waistline and rib cage. Even more so if you are a shorty like me 🤣My Bub is definitely taking up all available space! In the kneeling mermaid you squeeze your inner thighs tightly and lift up off your hips with your tummy muscles to stretch up and over into a side bend. You get the most incredible stretch right from your hips all the up the side of your torso to your finger tips. Side bends. Using pancake or middle splits to work on them. Use a weight if you like a challenge when doing side bends. I use the blocks on my feet to challenge the range for pancake. . Uploading videos for me is almost like lottery, the same video can be good or bad quality. Arghhh. at Asia/Singapore

@dr.alexritza HELP for that hard to reach spot in the low back 🤗👍👨🏼‍⚕️ . If you have tightness through the side of the low back, I bet this will help to relieve it with some repetitive practice and easy, deep breathing into the belly with the diaphragm . Tightness 💪🏽 through the quadratus lumborum (QL) is really common with lifting, whether in the gym or moving and also with long bouts of being immobile or sitting 👩‍💻 . A note of caution however. If the stretching fails to relieve the tightness 🤦‍♀️🤦🏼‍♂️or the tightness is coming back and doing so ever more frequently, it is time to give us a call or see a professional near you 🏡 . Why? Because the tightness is likely not the problem but rather that symptom of a more foundational or core problem with the spine 😬 . Research shows that’s the Ql is supposed to work as a gross mover of the spine - bending us from side-to-side. It attaches directly onto the spine and it is big, powerful and really good and doing its job . However, research shows that’s in low back pain sufferers, who tend to have more core weakness, and an inability to activate the core and spinal stabilizers, the QL tries to take over the roll of stabilizing instead of moving the spine . As a result, it tends to get really stiff and tight because it is trying to hold the spine tightly and protect it - it has not evolved to do this however so the tightness feels bad, painful and restricts mobility . This is a great example of when what you might be feeling is not the actual problem but a symptom of a different issue . Try the stretch. #yogachittivrittinirodha Yoga stops thought waves. Shining, sparkling deep blue waters of the red sea. Stoney mountains when I turn around. The colour of the sand. Monotonously repeating itself. Only the mountains changing shapes through a different arrangement of stones. Stones, Stoney, Stoned. Dull is the dance of the landscape outside the window. The same performance repeating itself for the last 14 hours. Inspired by the vastness my thoughts start creating a picture that would not fit a frame. Trying to understand the picture that I have drawn of this world. Trying to understand why not everyone is using the same colours. Blue, sand. Red is only an invention. And so I philosophy. I love the wisdom and know I have to surf the waves that Yoga wants to stop. Wisdom that comes through thoughts that come in endless waves. I am surfing these waves - being completely absorbed in this one wave which is carrying me. I am in the flow of surfing my thoughts. I feel the force of the wave, feel how it carries my entire weight. Thinking has become knowing. Not the thinker, not the surfer, but the knower. I’ve been working on #parighasana in my own practice to open up the lateral line of my body. It gives a chance for the hips, sides of ribs(which helps to open up the lungs) and into the underside of the arm to lengthen. Don’t worry if you can’t hook your hand under to hold your foot, you can just place your hand on the ground wherever it reaches. 2 years ago I would’ve been too fascially tight to do this but since attending #slingsmyofascialtraining with @art_of_motion_academy and @anatomytrainsau this has greatly improved due to my understanding of the fascial lines. Day 13 #OmstarsAshtangaChallenge is #parighasana . What a lovely side stretch after those super hard poses 😍. We are now almost through the challenge and I am so grateful for it. I have learned so much and feel ready to try out intermediate series fully. . Sometimes in life you just need to trust the process and that what is happening will actually be good for you and turn out well. As a Yogi I am told to be nice and let go of other people's shit they throw on me. For me that does not mean, that if someone behaves badly I don't have the right to stand up or speak up. Stretching my side body is one of my top 5 things to do when practicing and teaching yoga. You can see how it stretches the ribs away from the hips and gets into the muscles between the ribs called the intercostal muscles. Side bends bring balance, to your entire body whilst lengthening the adominal muscles, hips, and thigh muscles and improving flexibility to the spine. What I find amusing, that to look at this pose there doesn’t look like there is much going on but when done consciously there are so many benefits and it feels pretty delicious too #sidestretch #yogateacher #yogaeverydamnday

My other playground... . What’s fun about the Oaks is the large range of varied surfaces you have to work with. I’ve always loved “pouring gravity” through my body ( for me this is feeling when you change the height of your weight bearing limbs and then move around). Ugh, there is nothing quite like the relief of a twist and a side stretch after leaning over a mixing desk (or indeed a regular desk) for hours! Twisting and side-stretches are not something we do much of in everyday life - we tend to be very forward/back in our plane of motion - so they’re a fantastic thing to sprinkle throughout your day whenever you get up to make a drink, use the bathroom, or take a call.

Day 1️⃣2️⃣ of #PressingDreams with @cyogalife ➡️ #BoundTriangle or #BaddhaTrikonasana Though back in ttc days and alignment class I found #trikonasa a bit not so easy in squaring hips before dive but these past few months trikonasa has become my everyday fav for yummy stretch of obliques and legs, and this added bound makes it even better... I just love it! 💟💟 #Repost @cyogalife This standing pose is a personal favorite because it calls for a lot of things all at once, so you get warmed up very quickly. Since it involves a few elements, if you’re having trouble, ‘deconstruct it’ and break it down in smaller pieces, work on them individually, then assemble it again and try one last time.For the​ disassembling,​ do Triangle,Side Angle and Bound Side Angle, hold each at least 5 breaths. Just like we saw in yesterday’s pose, as you turn the torso, use both the spine & hips and pivot around the head of the femur & base leg. Imagine it’s a stick, so you can’t bend it, keep turning further away from it and the ground. Let the neck follow the movement the back is making and, if it bothers you, look straight ahead/down. Keep back foot turned in and pile top hip on the other. Don’t force the shoulders trying to bind deeper or revolve further. Open the chest and breathe fully, projecting both through the crown of the head and feet, to help you lengthen as well as feel more grounded. Suck the energy from the earth and let that help you maintain the legs straight at all times. If you need to sacrifice something, use a strap for the bind so you have more room to twist and/or engage the legs. Which is side is easier: when your wrap around the left or right leg? or is there no big difference between them? Time to find out and #keeppracticing. Have a great one!!

Day 1️⃣1️⃣ of #PressingDreams with @cyogalife ➡️ #CrouchingTiger, #Skandasana or #ArdhaMalasana . In one of such days that I realize how everyday practice of a pose is so important... Today's pose is my usual morning routine as a warm-up and stretching. So it was just fine, I think! 😊😊 #Repost @cyogalife Another pose that’ll help with the leg activation, hip flexor folding and will stretch the inner groin. If the squat or maintaining the other leg extended is an issue, forget about the bind and push with fingers/hands down to sink deeper, allowing the head of the femur to rotate in its socket. Use the heel of the straight leg and press it into the floor to feel the stretch along the inner side of it. For more leg activation, point the toes or pivot the ankle, externally rotating it, and lower the little toe so you get some length on the outer side of the leg (that maneuver will also help protect the inner knee). For those attempting the bind, revolve the torso, away from the ground and lower body, twist all along the spine then, on exhale, reach arms around the bent leg and lace fingers or back wrist. If, at that moment, you start to round the back or lose some of the turn, undo the lacing and work on the twist with hands down. It seems like a step back but it’ll help you advance faster than holding this all hunched up. Stay longer, or repeat a second time, on the side you’re not sinking or turning that much. Ground strongly through the legs so you feel immobile. Close the eyes and engrave that sensation in your head. Access it again when we’ll go upside down and will need to connect with a powerful feeling of steadiness... piece of cake, let’s go for it and good luck!!

I've been feeling so incredibly flat the last few days. I'm pretty sure I'm sick with something but it's very odd because I'm not coughing or sneezing but my tonsils and glands feel a tiny bit sore/large, my ears feel a bit stuffy, I've been needing buttloads more sleep and I've been having to shovel food down all day just to keep me off rock-bottom energy levels. I love half moon pose, or side stretch. It reminds me that our physical body is one long muscle. As I stretch to the side I feel sensations all the way from my foot to the tips of my fingers. So this is how I pulled my oblique muscle so badly that I am running on Ibuprofen since Wednesday. The video is from Saturday. And no, I didn’t listen to my body and went through a few more days of practice and teaching. Stupid me. Learnt a lesson, taking time to heal and recover and nurturing my soul in the free time I got not being able to move my body properly (or rather at all). Pain sucks, yes, but it’s the voice of our body yelling at us - GIVE YOURSELF A BREAK. So yeah, I’ll listen to it. And to music. Someone else listens to inappropriate music while doing yoga? I had R.
