I know this is a very common amateur astrophotpgroahy target, but it deserves a double post.

By now, many of you have heard that the bright red supergiant Betelgeuse in Orion’s left shoulder has dimmed by 36% in the last few months. New images from ESO shown here show us something surprising: it is not dimming evenly. One possibility is the star is throwing off a great deal of dust, and another is that there are differences in magnetic activity causing temperature differences across the surface. One thing for sure, it’s going to continue to get a great deal of scrutiny in the weeks and months ahead. NGC1499 is also known as the California Nebula. Quite an interesting story behind this shot. 6 hours total exposure time of Ha data. I've never gotten this much time on one target before and I'm very excited to share this with you, but it isnt perfect. 2 hours of this data had perfect focus, but bad tracking. 4 hours of this data had perfect tracking, but bad focus! So frustrating! I have some mods underway to improve my rig, but for now, I think it still looks pretty cool! 🔭 ⬇️ DETAILS ⬇️ 🔭 IS: WO Redcat51 (51/250) IC: ZWO 1600MM Pro Mount: Skywatcher Star Adventurer GS: ZWO 30mm f/4 GC: ZWO 120 mini Guided with ASIAIR & Apple iPad ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ #astrophotography #budgetastrophotography #astronomy #budgetastronomy #space #outerspace #science #stars #nasa #photography #nightphotography #telescope #smalltelescope #universe #universetoday #stargazing #nightsky #cosmos #astro #astrograph #longexposure #messier #education #galaxy #nebula #math #physics #star #chemistry #trippy

Is Betelgeuse ready to go Supernova? Astronomers worldwide have noticed an unusual sharp dimming in Betelgeuse’s brightness in the last few days. You can see it for yourself if you go outside tonight. The normally bright red ‘left shoulder’ of Orion is suddenly fainter than expected. Could this mean it is ready to explode in a dazzling supernova? If so, it would be brighter than our full Moon, and visible in the daytime! Of course since it’s almost 600 light years away, maybe it’s already exploded and the light hasn’t reached us yet. NASA’s Lucky Peanuts! It was 1964 and the mood at NASA was tense. The first six Ranger missions had been failures and everyone at JPL (Jet Propulsion Laboratory) was on edge about Ranger 7. After the successful launch, a review meeting was held to try to understand what was different between the first six missions and the last successful one. No one could come up with a reason. Finally a hand in the back was raised and someone said, “We ate peanuts during the launch of Ranger 7”. The rest is history. For every launch from then on, there have always been peanuts in the control room for good luck. In a few occasions, the peanuts didn’t make it for launch day. In one case the spacecraft was lost soon after launch. In another, the launch was delayed for 40 days, and only took place after the lucky peanuts were delivered to the mission team. Here I am at NASA/JPL with some of the lucky peanuts! IC1805 looks like a heart so someone clever nicknamed it the heart nebula. This object was discovered in 1787 by William Herschel. This object is estimated to be 7500 light years from earth. That means it took the light registered in this photograph 7500 years to complete its journey from IC1805 to my telescope. Here I am editing some Hydrogen data I collected last night. The images were slightly out of focus, so I will have to start over. Picture this: When you look up at a starry night sky, there are plenty of beautiful and creepy nebula there, you just can't quite see them.

#jupiter #lunasdejupiter #jupitermoon #jupitermoons #io #ganimedes #calisto #callisto #calixto #europa #astronomia #astronomía #astronomy #planet #planeta #amateurastronomy #astronomiaamateur #skygazing #solarsystem #sistemasolar #ciencia #science #astrobiology #telescope #telescopio #smalltelescope #jupiteropposition #jupiteropposition2019
