We use image guidance to deliver a patient's own blood growth factors and bone marrow stem cells directly to the areas of damage to ensure the best chance for healing! All without dangerous surgery or cortisone injections! 👍 . Eighty percent of women will experience back pain at some point during their pregnancies. The severity of this pain during pregnancy ranges from mild discomfort after standing for long periods of time to debilitating pain that interferes with daily life. Although back pain during pregnancy can be a sign of a more serious condition, including labor, in most cases, it is the result of changes happening within the body. Although it may seem enticing to rest when experiencing pain and not undertake an exercise routine, gentle stretching and movement will often decrease muscle spasm and restore improved spinal function, resulting in decreased pain Exercise also boosts energy levels and contributes to an easier labor, delivery and post par tum recovery. The components of a balanced exercise program during pregnancy include cardiovascular, strength, and flexibility training. We will be happy to work on a personalized program for you. . . . . #physiotherapy #physicaltherapy #physio #getmoving #rehabilitation #clinicalathelete #sportstherapy #sportsinjury #physios #sportstraining #fallprevention #dryneedling #hydrotherapy #sportsphysio #sportsmedicine #pilates #clinicalpilates #lasertherapy #wellness #naturalhealth

Research # 195 on my blog “Normal Abnormal Findings?” —————————— Title: Abnormal results from non painful and no injury individuals. —————————— These studies (references below) states damages in imaging findings in young and asymptomatic (non-painful/injured) individuals. If high percentages of abnormalities are found in individuals with NO experience of pain, what does imaging in a painful individual tell us? —————————— It is important to remember that imaging is a piece of the puzzle (not the whole picture), and positive findings are not always the CAUSE of an individual’s pain. Pain is a multidimensional experience (lack of sleep, nutrition/hydration, mental health as depression increases pain, trauma, etc), which may or may not correspond to actual tissue damage. —————————— Damages or abnormal lab findings is a normal part of our aging process and life such as our hair turning white which is also painless (that’s why I included the photo below to emphasise the message); it’s fine everybody will eventually have it and proceed in their life. —————————— Damages seen in lab findings should NOT be a stand alone (single) criteria as for the reasons I stated above that even young people with no complaints of pain and old people with no injuries will have an abnormal damages (findings) seen in their lab results but a thorough subjective (assessment) and objective (evaluation) clinical reasoning (sound judgement) from a licensed medical professional such as a Physician or Doctor of Physical Therapy who studied & passed exams for years instead of seeking health care from a certified method (for 1-2 days only with no exam but only a certificate of attendance/participation) that holds no accountability in losing their license (non licensed practitioner) is not advisable but it’s still your call. Aside from the lab findings, the licensed medical professional would do an orthopaedic exam (special test for physical therapist), evaluate your signs & symptoms, and last but not the least is the lengthy question and answer interview for the full details for a full resolution. —————————— As always my bias would be evidence (proven scientific claims) > preference.

Wellness Wednesday: Overtraining can have negative effects on the body and inhibit progress made in the gym. Allowing the body time to recover is a vital part of a healthy lifestyle. Not only can recovery days improve your workouts, but they have a positive affect on your mindset and daily outlook. . . . A recovery day can take on many forms...a leisurely walk, yoga, time in a cold tub. Essentially, it can be any activity that aids in the recovery process and allows the body to respond and adapt to the changes made during training. . . . 🤸🏻‍♀️Proprioception/Balance Training🤸🏻‍♂️ In my opinion, balance/proprioception work is generally overlooked and under appreciated within the realm of sports performance ( or general exercise for that matter). Sure, you may do some tree pose during yoga class, but when was the last time you actively included proprioception work into your fitness routine? - While emphasis is often placed on balance in physical therapy and rehab, for the vast majority of people it is a thing that is often forgotten. This is a shame, as balance training has an incredibly applicable range of uses. From strengthen muscles to improving neuromotor function, huge gains in both sports and life can be had by actively working your balance systems. - It is worth considering that humans have three main centers of balance that help keep us upright when interacting in our environment. First ( and most heavily used) is vision, second is the various mechanoreceptors throughout our body , and third is our vestibular system (also know as the inner ear). Balance training is all about challenging one, two or even all three of these systems. - Here are some the exercises I like to use to challenge the various balance systems with my patients - 1. Airex pad RDL + cone stacks 2. Airex pad around the worlds w/ band 3. Eyes closed single leg medball sways 4. Airex pad RDL + hip abduction 5. Airex pad w/ over head wall throws 6. Bonus! Slack line: yes I put my patients on the line, no I don’t have them swing clubs while they do it ;) Interested in proprioception training? Want to mix up your current gym routine? I often get asked about heel spurs. . Patients with plantar heel pain inevitably visualise a large spur ‘digging into the heel tissue’. . But that is never the case. . Heel spurs are very common, and like a lot of conditions, often not the cause of pain even when obvious on x-ray. . So beware of over-interpretation of radiographs. . Treat the cause and relieve the symptoms. . Hope this helps! . #heel #heelpain #heelspurs #painfulheel #plantarfasciitis #plantarheelpain #podiatrist #podiatry #podiatrystudent #physio #physiotherapy #physiotherapist #chiro #chiropractor #chiroractic #sportsmedicine #bmi #fracture #bonespurs #nurse #nursing #nursingstudent #massagetherapy #massage #sports #sportsdoctor #doctors #doctorsofinstagram #run #nursingschool

We’ve all head the terms: Fats, saturated fat, unsaturated fat, trans fats. polysaturated, triglycerides, cholesterol, LDL, HDL...so what? ... High cholesterol and triglycerides are associated with heart and vascular disease and can cause further challenges on the diabetic population. ... Keep in mind that fats (lipids) make up the bilayer of our cells and is required in human hormone production. ... Let me give you some assistance when navigating these terms. I will remind people that this does not replace medical orders or guidance from your nutritionist but is for general information purposes. ... Saturated Fats: usually animal fats. Have higher melting points, found in foods such as pizza, butter, or processed meat. Recommend no more than 10% of daily intake. ... Unsaturated Fats: Usually found in fatty fish (salmon), nuts, avocado, and olive oil. Has less energy production then saturated fats but is less detrimental to human systems. Recommendation: 20-35% of daily intake. ... Transfats: not so good. Theses fats can raise your bad cholesterol and is found in many processed foods such as dairy or cookies. Recommendation is no more then 2 grams per day. ... HDL: Good cholesterol ... LDL: Bad cholesterol ... I hope that you’ve found this helpful. Questions? Leave a comment or drop a message. We all have our own JOURNEY& INSECURITIES. {HAIR. MAKE-UP. PERFECT SIZE.} ⠀⠀ I had the most GORGEOUS, PETITE, ATHLETIC patient today. As I was evaluating her, I found that her favorite hobby/getaway was the gym, which I can totally relate too! She appeared like she had it all together from the outside even I was thinking...man I’d love to know her gym routine & hairstylist 😂 As I got to know her more, I realized the gym literally CONSUMED her. At first I thought...that’s dedication! Then as she left & I further reviewed her chart during documentation, she viewed herself as having 𝐏𝐎𝐎𝐑 health. From the outside it was completely opposite: young, active, fit & beautiful (the hair freshly done & makeup on point). I immediate reflected back to being in similar shoes as her & been I was 𝐍𝐄𝐕𝐄𝐑 𝐄𝐍𝐎𝐔𝐆𝐇. A huge psychosocial component. . . Ironically, after seeing her I was in the middle of listening to audiobook & this was voiced: You don’t need to present yourself in a certain light to be LOVED & ACCEPTED. The people that deserve to be in your life will care about the REAL you & who you actually are. ⠀ ⠀ Be the kind of woman you want to be. ⠀ Be the kind of woman who is PROUD of herself. ⠀ Be the kind of woman who has SOO much LOVE inside her that she won’t be tempted to change herself in order to get love from others. ⠀ Be the kind of woman who focuses more on interested vs. than on other people thinking she’s interesting. ⠀ Be the kind of woman who laughs LOUDLY & OFTEN. ⠀ Be the kind of woman who is generous. ⠀ Be the kind of woman who spends a lifetime learning because knowledge is power. ⠀ Be the kind of woman who SHOWS UP for her life. ⠀ Be the kind of woman who understands that she was made for more. ⠀ Be the kind of woman who believes she is capable of doing amazing things in this world. ⠀ Be the kind of woman whose own dreams make her nervous & go ahead & do them anyway. ⠀ Be the kind of woman who NEVER asks permission to be HERSELF. ⠀ #girlstopapologizing by @msrachelhollis ⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ #mentalhealth is a REAL thing. Don’t be deceived by those that look like they have it together. We all have our own internal BATTLES 💗 #riseabove

// CHOOSE PHYSIO - SURGERY PREVENTION! . Have you ever been told that your knee pain may lead to a surgery later on? - This is a super common topic our patients speak to us about. - There are a few injuries that knee surgery would be beneficial for, it all depends on the individual case and injury. - However! Most conditions do extremely well without surgery intervention and just a kick ass physiotherapy rehab program instead! . If you have any knee issues you want to discuss with a physiotherapist, then contact us in the clinic! . For all things knee and avoiding surgery related- watch below! thanks @physioaustralia . https://youtu.be/HZKQ2bJquMQ

THE WHITE BOARD IS BACK! - Everyone’s dream is to be symmetrical; yet everything we do makes us realize that we are naturally asymmetrical beings. How come when it comes to rehab though, we always strive for absolute symmetry? - Years and years of research are going to give us the answer. But right now we do know that we do strive for symmetry on a daily basis. If we strive for symmetry and we need to make sure that all of our interventions both manual and therapeutic reflect that. Striving for homeostasis and centration at all times.

Groin Strength and Mobility Exercises that work the inner thigh more directly are largely neglected in most workout routines. The ability to access your hip abduction range of motion is important in things like the sumo squat or a split. It's also important to strengthen the adductors for hip stability. Who doesn't want a two for one deal? This lateral lunge slider will stretch the hip adductors on the way down and strengthen as you pull the leg back to midline. I'm using the rig to give a little support and a cue to not let the knee cave in or let my trunk lean. To do this at home you can find a hardwood or laminate floor and wear socks or use a towel.

Athlete, just as you have physical training plans, do not neglect a Spiritual Training Plan. What’s even one way you can seem God and growth this week? • Physical training is good, but training for godliness is much better, promising benefits in this life and in the life to come.” This is a trustworthy saying, and everyone should accept it. This is why we work hard and continue to struggle, for our hope is in the living God, who is the Savior of all people and particularly of all believers. - 1 Timothy‬ ‭4:8-10‬ ‭NLT‬‬.

While we can never accurately predict injury, we can screen for asymmetries in functional movement. Compiled research from the Lower Extremity Review cited these 4 functional tests as a very quick and useful way to screen movement and potential injury risk. The tests are as follows: SL anterior reach, landing error scoring system (LESS), SL Hop for distance, ankle dorsiflexion (knee to wall). https://lermagazine.com/article/functional-tests-to-predict-lower-extremity-injury-risk

Is an orthopedic special test valid or reliable if, after you reduce a derangement, it changes? Derangements in extremity joints can MIMIC tendon/muscle issues. If you know how to look for joint derangements, you’ll see how prevalent they are, especially in comparison to contractile tissue issues. And once you know how to look for them, you should know how to treat them - with repeated movement in a specific direction. It’s especially great for the patient since derangements respond rapidly (days to weeks), versus contractile tissue injuries which take months to repair. I RARELY use orthopedic special tests to diagnose as they are not valid nor reliable for me unless there is no derangement causing the problem. This is data taken from two papers: . Kaneko et al “Application of mechanical diagnosis and therapy to a patient diagnosed with de Quervain’s disease: A case study.” J Hand Therapy 2009: 22:278-284 . Kidd J. “Treatment of shoulder pain utilizing mechanical diagnosis and therapy principles.” J Man Manip Ther 2013:21:168-173 . Light to moderate cardio exercise for 5 to 10 minutes is an ideal way to warm-up before any workout or exercise - including team sports. The purpose of this time is to get the heart rate up and increase the core body temperature. #warmup #runalittle #noinjuries #doingitright #physiotherapy #physiosportmed #sportsmedicine #oakville #oakpark
