One of our amazing volunteers and her equally amazing Crohn's warrior son spent the day filming for Barts Health NHS Trust today. The film is all about transitioning from Pediatric to Adult Care, something that is hugely important with IBD especially with so many peopleΒ being diagnosed so young. This vital filming at Royal London Hospital will help support training days at Barts Health NHS Trust for medical, nursing and other healthcareΒ professionals. The framework is called β€œReady Steady Go Hello to adults” and aims to standardise and improve transition pathways and experiences across the trust within all specialties. This in turn will help benefit the health and social outcomes for youngΒ people. The video will also be used to show families and young people to help explain to them what transitioning is and more. Thanks for supporting this awesome initiative and helping to ensure the transition can go as smoothly as possible for all those childrenΒ and young adults out there when they reach this important stage in their care. A post about monitoring our minds & mouths! I recently ran into an old acquaintance and it afforded us the chance to share our mental health journeys with each other! It was an important reminder for me to resist the temptation to self-deprecate, mock, or make light of my struggles & bipolar diagnosis! We should always remember just how strong and resilient we all are! Yes, we have every reason to hold our heads high while sharing our stories, knowing that the road we’re walking is never one to be ashamed of or embarrassed about! WE have the power to set the tone & I firmly believe that others WILL take our lead! Sending out a HUGE group hug and high fives to everyone !!! πŸ™ŒπŸ’›

This is what depression looks like... I managed to put on pants today. It was a struggle. I'm going to therapy... I take meds... I exercise. I'm still sad some days. We aren't making it up. We aren't lazy. Yesterday was hard. Today is hard. Tomorrow may be hard too. But I'll get through it. #depression #stigmafree

β€œYoga is not a work-out, it is a work-in. And this is the point of spiritual practice; to make us teachable; to open up our hearts and focus our awareness so that we can know what we already know and be who we already are.” β€” Rolf Gates . We all need to find balance in life, but sometimes, the scale can tip over and bring us into a state that is bigger than ourselves. Whether mental, physical, emotional... Sometimes, we need a time out - but we can't stop time. I've been feeling overwhelmed lately with facing my past, the one I had burried when I left Gatineau for Quebec City. When I came back to Gatineau after 6 years, I thought it would be facing "just a wave", but I was wrong: it was a tsunami. . I am known to be a strong person, but something greater than me was pushing down on me and taking so much of my energy. I've came close to hitting a wall a few times, but, thankfully, I have a golden entourage that love me and that would do anything for me. Luckily, I knew the symptoms of depression, because it is becoming less and less taboo, and people are opening up about it. . Where it affected me the most was for my complete inability to create. I love to do photography, but it became a burden. I have not been able to deliver to the level that I normally can until recently. I'm not making up excuses; I just didn't have enough strength to do it. I'm slowly reconnecting with that inner spark that I have for photography. It is a long process, but it is starting to happen again. . I also found a way to get in touch with my inner self and to accept everything - not change, but accepting the way I am, and better knowing what I already know. I am working on balancing effort and ease in my day to day life. I am blessed to have the friends that I have and I thank you for also accepting me. Ps. Not me/my picture, but definitely getting this next time I get some ink done. . β™‘ . #depression #mentalhealth #mentalhealthawareness #mentalhealthmatters #mentalillness #selfcare #selflove #love #mindfulness #yoga #spirituality #acceptance #letstalk #stigmafree #breakthestigma #semicolon #semicolonproject #blackandwhite

As it is Crohn’s and Colitis Awareness Week (1-7 Dec) this week what a better way to mark it than filming for Barts Health NHS Trust. A film that will hopefully help and support others in the futureβ€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€” My warrior and I are transitioning from Pediatric to Adult Care and are at the stage of planning for the future. As we are at that stage of his care we were asked to take part in this filming. Not only does my warrior suffers from Crohn’s disease; he is also on the autistic spectrum and is β€˜non verbal.’ So the transitioning is that little bit more important and it's key that it goes well and smoothly. Therefore we did some vital filming today at Royal London Hospital that will help support training days. β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€” Barts Health NHS Trust are launching the framework spring next year for medical, nursing and other healthcare professionals. This aims to help explain the benefits of using the β€˜Ready Steady go Hello to adults’ framework and how it will help benefit the health and social outcomes for young people. β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€” Barts Health NHS Trust are going to be making a video to help support the sessions. This will also be used to show families and young people to help explain to them what transitioning is and more. β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€” The trust has chosen to adopt β€˜Ready Steady Go Hello to adults’ to standardise and improve transition pathways and experiences across the trust within all specialities. β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€” PROUD OF MY SON KYDE . (Day 6 of 11) When I took my stand on April 24, 2016 ("I am a stand for overcoming obstacles and changing perceptions of people with HIV") I more than double the number of people who knew my status. This one moment was pivotal in my healing. Prior to my stand, this group of women from Burley Idaho taught me that it takes a lot more strength to be vulnerable, but it also comes with a lot more freedom. Simply by their examples, I knew that vulnerability was a virtue that I wanted to develop. It's honestly terrifying. Shame thrives in the dark and slowly eats away at any self confidence. I am thankful to these women creating a space and especially to @rayettebarendregt for gently pushing me to say what I really wanted to say. It allowed me to shine a light into the dark where I had been hiding this thing. Over time it has helped me look at this scar from a place of strength and confidence rather than from a place of loathing and lack. I am still figuring this out one day at a time and simply trying to take one more step into the dark. You have the most to give and can have the greatest impact if you embrace your scars. Someone somewhere, probably closer than you think, is currently dealing with a similar issue that created your scar. What are the scars you hide? What are you willing to stand for? . #HIV #AIDS #EndAIDS #EndHIV #HIVAIDSAwareness #HIVAwareness #AIDSAwareness #Undetectable #TasP #PrEP #Poz #StigmaFree #HIVEqual
