DAY 2 ~ 12 Days and 12 Ways to Reduce Stress during the Holidays! Reduce Caffeine Intake I get it! Everyone loves a daily cup (or 3) of coffee, tea, or chai latte ☕️ or in my case Chocolate! But High doses of caffeine can increase anxiety and make you jittery and anxious. It has also been linked to Adrenal Fatigue. I am not suggesting that you cut it out completely.....just have one less cup or go for a 12 oz in stead of 20 oz. Having a dark road or espresso has less Caffeine than a lighter roast. You just might be pleasantly surprised at the difference and hardly miss it. The best thing about creating Happy Habits is there is no deprivation! Just the choice to make small changes every day! Happy Wednesday Whimsical Winter Wonderland Entreindividuals! Counting Down to Christmas is well under way. Many people are planning for trips during the next few days and weeks. I am in the midst of setting up my new place, and doing that in the middle of the holidays has proven challenging. There will be more flights, trains, and cars commuting across the globe 🌎 to bring loved ones closer to each other. I've learned to strive to maintain my peace during this stressful time. The holidays can bring out the worst in some folks😰. A tip I've found extremely useful while traveling is to tuck one or two of my favorite dryer sheets in my sleeve or tucked under my scarf. When I find my levels getting up there, I take a deep whiff of that sheet and it brings me back down. No matter where your travels may take you, it is my hope that your destination takes you to open arms, full hearts, and big smiles. I had an epiphany tonight: I am clear on my “why” for the big things in my life, like family, career, helping others, mission, etc. . But I ignore it for the little daily items and, in doing so, I am really missing an opportunity. . If I view what I have to do each day as simple “to do” items, they can feel like drudgery. If I think why I grateful to do them and how even the little things are part of my “why,” they become something that lights me up. . For instance: -Original way of thinking: I have so much to do before my trip at 4:30 am. -New way: I am so thankful to get to meet with one of my best and favorite customers tomorrow, to get to help patients “hear better and live better,” and am blessed to have nice things to pack and being and that my company allows me to fly places to be more productive and take care of myself. . Then it goes from stressful to thankful. And I feel a heck of a lot better with the new way. ❤️ . It really is the little things, isn’t it, friends? I turned around to find our own little red nosed Rudy. This year one of the biggest gifts I’m giving to my recovering workaholic self is taking breaks, from social media, from the to do list grind, from my self imposed pressure, and inviting in more flow and play. Somehow it’s easier to do the “shoulds” than the things that keep us lit up inside. When I saw my dear kitty I was grateful for another chance to take a breath, have a laugh, and lighten up. It’s been a hard lesson to see that doing more won’t make things fall into place faster. Taking time to accept what is helps me see the opportunities that naturally open around me, and in opening to that abundance I deepen my trust that things are ok the way they are. Don't let being overwhelmed and stressed about food add to your growing list of things to worry about. . Here's my 3 tips for enjoying holiday outings without having to stress about the food too: . 🔷️Make a plan. Going to a potluck? Make sure to bring something you know you feel comfortable eating. Bringing a veggie tray is simple, easy to do, and fits into anyone's eating style. Or make your own "healthy" treat to share. Bonus - when there is leftovers you know you're taking something back home that you're willing to eat and that won't wreck your food plan for days afterward. . 🔷️Headed to dinner at a restaurant? Check their nutrition information online beforehand and decide what you'll order before you go. Once there, don't even look at the menu so you're not tempted to abandon your plan last minute. If the restaurants nutrition information isn't available, most restaurants offer a house salad and some sort of lean protein. Go with those, get no cheese or sauces, and all dressings on the side. . 🔷️Not sure what food will be available? Eat a small, healthy meal beforehand so if you don't find anything you want you can just pass. I've gone to several parties, passed on the food, and never been judged for doing so. Even just swigging a quick protein shake before you go can prevent you from diving head first into the chips, cookies, and sugar/fat laden goodies. You can also pack a protein bar and bag of veggies in your purse as a "just in case". . When I first started dreaming about my own business, my plan was always to be ahead of the game when it came to social media and my own marketing plan. FEEL YOUR FEELINGS 🥰// How do you express your emotions? Do you tend to keep them bottled up? Do you avoid talking about them? Do you keep yourself busy obsessing about food, weight, work, life, relationships, just so you don’t have to confront them? .. It’s amazing how burying our feelings can result in imbalances in our health. Our emotions are so closely tied with organ systems and can be an underlying cause of disease. Our cells and genes have an incredible ability to be influenced by our emotions and our energy. Are we happy? At peace? Living in alignment? This is an environment where we can thrive. .. But when we’re living in stress, pushing down anger and sadness and avoiding our feelings, we put extra stress on our bodies. The negative energy brings us down - emotionally and physically. Suppressed emotions can manifest physically as pain and discomfort. This is commonly found in the digestive tract considering the strong connection between our gut and our brain. .. Learning to feel your feelings and release yourself from their grip is not an easy task, but it’s very very valuable. Here are some ways you can begin exploring this: • Recognize that you are not your emotion. Do not own it. Acknowledge it, feel it and let it pass through. •Emotions are not negative or positive. They just are. We decided to label them at some point but that makes us feel bad when we experience them. Anger and sadness is just as normal as excitement and happiness. Don’t feel guilty for feeling an emotion, all emotions are valid. • Seek help when navigating your emotions. A professional like a psychologist can be such an amazing tool to help you sort out your emotions and identify where they may be stemming from. .. Therapy is one of my favourite tools when I need some additional support. Mental health is important. Emotional health is important. It’s all part of the holistic view of health. .. Let me know what are you most proud of this year 2018? The pic looks a bit like London. But it is Christmas lights (and cosy places) in my city in Denmark. It was such a thrill to take the day off. It was like bathing in new fresh energies. I had to open my heart and mind to Christmas and so I did with a honey cake, fudge, shopping, buying a present, sending a gift to my lovely friend right away as a pre Christmas present... just strolling.....allowing myself to see things that I want...in a joyful and playful way...now I'm emotionally prepared for the holiday...and almost practically as well...closing this year little by little with a proud feeling...more proud than ever before for what I have mastered and achieved in just 1 year.
