There is always hope .... A wonderful and inspiring story of determination and hope for stroke survivors such as my husband. For those unaware, my husband suffered a severe ischemic stroke in 2016 and had to learn to walk and talk again. He has aphasia which impairs speech leaving him with difficulties communicating. It does not rob the persons intelligence (I have tested this telling him he used to love cooking and ironing to no avail 😅) however, those with aphasia may also have problems following conversations, reading, using numbers, writing and comprehending written words. It often leads to frustration, embarrassment, anger and depression. I am often his voice. ~ My journey in becoming a certified Health Coach was as a result of my husbands stroke. Taking care of our mental, physical and spiritual health has never been more important with one stroke occurring every 5 minutes in the UK and stroke being the 3rd biggest killer in Ireland. 1 in 6 men will have a stroke in their life and that number is 1 in 5 for women. Every 2 seconds someone in the world will have a stroke. HEALTH & NUTRITION: While some people embrace their grey hair - it’s entirely natural and sometimes, it can look really good - most people do everything they can to try and get rid of it and end up spending a lot of money on hair dye. But could there be cheaper and easier ways to be banishing the dreaded grey? The answer, thankfully, is yes. Here are five foods that can ward off white hair. 1. Walnuts: Eating walnuts, which are rich in copper, stops hair going grey. It’s all about copper being crucial in melanin production, and melanin giving hair its pigment. 2. Prawns: High levels of zinc are important in keeping colour in your hair, which means including zinc-rich foods like prawns, other shellfish, seeds and cheese. 3. More prawns: That miraculous Omega 3 isn’t just good for your heart, it’s important to keep your hair strong too. Good sources are fish (again), seeds (again), and green leafy veg (another health-food stalwart). 4. Chicken: Low levels of Vitamin B12 can lead to dry, thinning and prematurely greying hair (as well as a whole host of other health problems like fatigue and shortness of breath). Keep your levels – and hair colour – topped up by consuming lots of poultry, eggs, cheese, milk and (yes, once again) seafood. We know that stress uses up vitamin B and some studies have shown that taking large doses of certain B vitamins (B6, B12, folic acid) have begun to reverse the process of greying in 3 months. The hairs revert to white when the vitamins are stopped. 5. Broccoli: The need for folic acid is commonly linked to pregnant women, but it can also be linked to better hair health – lack of it can cause premature greying. Many of you workout for an hour several times a week. Movement is such an awesome habit for a healthy life! But what are you doing the other 23 hours of the day to support your health and fitness? Getting stronger and healthier is not all about how much you work out. There are other habits that are critical. Try focusing on these 3 habits along with movement. 1) Nutrition - Your nutrition is the key component to reaching your goals. The food you eat (or don’t eat) will determine the outcome of your journey whether you are trying to get stronger, lose weight, or look more toned. It matters! Focus on reducing/eliminating fried/fast food, eating more meats/eggs/seafood with vegetables, small servings of fruit, nuts/seeds/avocado, and drinking lots of water instead of sugary drinks like soda/ juices/sweet tea/sugary coffee. 2) Stress Management - Stress slows the body down. It slows recovery down. It slows weight loss down. It affects your hormones. Things like infrared sauna sessions, stretching, yoga, meditation, deep breathing, walks, hiking, and spending time in community are all ways to reduce stress. Go to YouTube and search for deep breathing techniques or guided meditations or slow flow yoga sequences. Take a few minutes of silence laying in shavasana pose. It’s amazing what a few very intentional minutes each day will do for your health! 3) Sleep - So much magic happens when we sleep. The body works tirelessly while we rest. It recovers, regenerates, grows, rebuilds, and heals during sleep. There is no other time in the day the body can do this type of heavy lifting. But so often we put more focus on other habits that are not getting us closer to our goals (like staying up binge watching Netflix, scrolling social media, even sneaking in a late night sweat sesh). Or we are up late, it’s quiet, and then we sabotage our other goals by late night snacking, etc. Just go to bed! Try setting a bedtime and be accountable to it. Create a bedtime routine (like dimming lights/turning of the tv at a certain time, putting on pjs, reading for a few minutes, drinking warm tea, meditation/prayer). All of these actions signal to your body to slow down. —> Continued 👇

💜SELF-FORGIVENESS💜 _ 💫I used to have a hard time forgiving myself. I used to beat myself relentlessly for making the same mistake, to the point that it was affecting how I viewed myself. I was so consumed by my faults that I couldn't see or love myself wholeheartedly. 💫 _ ✨But now I've come to see my mistakes as just errors, separate from who I am as a person. I'm not longer entrenched in shame. ✨ _ 💦Here's an exercise on self-forgiveness as an antidote to shame.💦 _ 💎If you have difficulty forgiving yourself, I encourage you to write a letter to yourself. Acknowledge what you did wrong, but emphasize how you are human. You might wonder, "Am I giving myself too much slack?" The answer is, no--chances are that you have engaged in self-flagellation and have been too hard on yourself. Then write about how you are sorry how you have treated yourself (pre-self-forgiveness). Focus on using non-judgment toward yourself and avoid criticizing yourself (you already know that you made a mistake!) when you write this letter. 💎 _ 👉🏽🌅Comment on what has helped you OVERCOME feelings of SHAME!! Study days are the *best* days.... except not always nutritionally! Today I didn’t have class so I got to use the day to catch up on some homework, work work, wedding planning & errands. Somehow I still did not manage to check everything off my to do list! . When I have a lot of work to do and also NEED to eat, I try to find places that have options for both healthy bites & a table to pop my laptop on. Today (and usually is) that spot was @earlybirdbrew on Queen. Got the falafel bowl and O M G was it good! I also looove their avo toast & shakshuka which you can sub a sweet potato for toast if you’re not in a toasty mood. . Other fav study/ eat spots are.. @impactkitchen @nutbar.co @cafe_neon @pilotcoffee (helooo $5 avo toast!) @copperbranchtoronto . As I move out of school life and start seeing clients (HEY FRIENDS) I’ll be looking for more work/ eat places so give me your favs!

It has made me such a serious, anxious, & negative person. I’m tired of it! I want to be my silly, carefree, free spirited self again. I want to stop the negative self talk and complaining. My life is a dream and I’m trying to remind myself that although it’s a great responsibility to be a wife and mother and I should always strive to be my best, it’s also something I’ve always dreamed of being and I need to enjoy it more often than I take it serious. I truly believe that speaking positively and finding something to appreciate in everything is the best way to feeling fulfilled & happy in life. Part 4: My final answer to this question I was asked last week… “what do you do to stay healthy?” I guarantee a few of my answers today will surprise you! —- ✅ I stop drinking most fluids by 7pm. MY WHY: The simple answer is I don’t want to wake up in the night to pee. Yup, told you it was simple. Sleep is challenging enough, why make it worse by going to bed with a full bladder? I drink water all day so I don’t get dehydrated at night. —- ✅ I brush my teeth right after dinner. MY WHY: So I don’t eat the bag of chocolate chip cookies in my freezer that my mom baked for me😂 Let’s face it, no food really tastes good when you have minty fresh breath. I’ve found that mouthwash doesn’t keep me from eating sweets. Mouthwash isn’t the same commitment as brushing 😉 Brushing takes time and I’m too lazy to brush again if I eat something, so I just don’t eat. So simple! —- ✅ I take some CBD/Hemp oil before bed. MY WHY: When @Q13 fox asked me to put together a segment for them about hemp oil I had to spend hours researching facts. Part of my research was trying some different formulas of hemp oil (CBD). I found one that seems to really help me sleep. I understand that it’s impossible to be well if YOU’RE NOT SLEEPING WELL. This is a new habit for me but one I plan on keeping (as long as it still works!) and, of course research may change in this emerging area of hemp oils and CBD. I promise to keep you posted! P. S.
