My goal was to make some quick meals so I guess you can call it a success! Not anymore. I used to, though. A lot. .. Diets, workout programs, free challenges, blogging, personal development...quit, quit, quit, quit, quit. .. But that's because I set these INSANE expectations on exactly what it had to look like, and if I missed a workout or ate a cookie or didn't journal one morning, I'd look at it, and myself, as a failure. .. A big thing I've learned over the last year is to let go of *how* I'm going to get to where I want to be. .. Things NEVER look the way I expect them to, so I figure, why keep putting that pressure on myself? .. Now, it's more about the journey. I know, undoubtedly, that whatever goal I set, I'm going to reach it, so the best I can do is my best, take that imperfect action every single day and let things unfold as they're meant to. .. It was NOT easy to get here, and sometimes I feel myself getting pulled back into the "but HOW am I gonna do this?!", but I have to say, life feels a lot easier now. .. Things will work out in the way they're supposed to 100% of the time. Trust that. Believe that. Remind yourself of that every single day and keep doing the work. You'll be SO thankful you did. .. LIFE UPDATE ‼️ . . I’ve been resting mostly all weekend since I got home from work on Friday, drinking nothing but Emergen-C and water as well as eating soup and a ton of carbs to maintain my energy. I somehow got something weird in my system that caused me to feel extremely weak, have a major headache, and a sore throat on and off. It’s been weird for me to do nothing since I’m aaaaalways used to being on-the-go, working on my business and training program, or training for karate, and I haven’t don’t any of those things at all 😫 . . Sometimes our body shuts down on us because all we need is to just recover and rest. I had to force myself to do nothing because I know the repercussions of not allowing your body time to heal. It’s a weird and frustrating feeling, because you know you have to do things and your body is literally incapable of performing to do so. Especially on a weekend, this is usually the time where I crank it up a notch but this past weekend was made up of mostly resting for me 😅 . . BUT I’m feeling 85% better, not as fatigued and out of it, and feel like my strength is coming back. If you’re always on-the-go and you’re hit with any type of sickness, give your body some quality rest time! It’s better to sacrifice 2-3 days of rest than to prolong your recovery to a week or 2 just because you were inpatient to work out or do work. Allow your body to reboot itself and it’ll be up and running in no-time ✌🏼

The hip thrust has been popularized by Bret Contreras for the past decade (Thank you, Bret for making the world a more bootyful place). It is a progression of the glute bridge, and mainly targets your glute muscles. 1. Your mid back is at the edge of the bench; chin in (don't hyperextend); Ribs down ( do not flare them up) and brace your core; Arms to the side of your body holding the bar on your upper thighs; Use the p*ssy pad for this exercise only ( not for squats); shins are ~ vertical to floor; Feet should be close to your butt so that when you thrust up, you feel all the tension in your butt. Knees are in line with toes so don't let them cave in. Here the focus should be on loading the glutes and thinking of 'stretching' them. 2. Keep ribs down; brace your core; Push your hips up and squeeze your glutes hard; Do not let the bar roll towards you; Do not let your knees cave in, knees stay in line with toes; You should feel the entire tension in your glutes, not your lower back -Your body should create a straight line, parallel to the floor, from knees to head. - Also, make sure your hips are squared at the top. To acknowledge the sheer joy, & beauty in this chaotic world around me. If you’re living in day to day motions, the loop of life, take a moment to take a step back. I’ve been there. Where i wasn’t happy with aspects in my life. Feeling frustrated, lost, && lacking confidence. Truth is once we work from the inside on our mindset, the rest becomes easier. The weightloss, job search, restrictions with our diet. Helpful tips I’ve used on creating joy: - Laugh often. - Socialize with others or close friends. - Clarify your top priorities. - Practice self care daily. - Be here now. You’re fully capable of embracing & creating the life you want. The others who you see around you doing it, aren’t more special than you. They simply put their self worth first. Who is finally ready to make a serious change, to create the life they’ve wanted. If you’re ready let’s do this, because I’m loving the happiness I’ve created. When 3 Christmas tree marshmallows are under 50 calories, then you top your nighttime hot tea with them ☕️ It’s freezing, the Christmas lights are glowing, so I figured why not capture this glorious marshmallow moment - even though my mug has nothing to do with Christmas 😅 • • On Monday I started back up on a longer fasting period and its become clear that it’s what truly does my body good. My complexion, my energy, my mental clarity, no bloating, everything seems to improve when I’m regulating my insulin properly. I keep telling myself WHY did you stop longer fasts earlier this year and try new things? Well, because I’m human 🤷🏻‍♀️ I always beat myself up when I see friends who have stuck with something that works great for them, and have gotten great {and permanent} results in half a year, and I’m over here on month 12 of my journey and I’m J U S T figuring stuff out. I just have to remind myself to stay focused and be patient with MY process. Have you felt that feeling of weightlessness and awe on a plane? - While looking at the New York skyline this morning from the plane window, I had this surreal moment. - “Holy shit. The world is so big- there are so many people. There is so much to do and see...” - I all of a sudden got hit with a little sadness and overwhelm. - “ Oh shit -I feel like im doing nothing with my life...” - I used to think about this a lot actually. Like, with so many other humans, Why do I MATTER? - And this is what I’ve come up with: - It’s hard to put into words but I’ll try. - I’ll look up at the moon, and feel so so so small. And it will hit me- wow- we are on a freekin’ planet. There are a bajillion stars- planets- space- nothingness. - And here I am- little ol’ emma. Taking up less than a square of sidewalk. - Truth is: no one is special. - We are actually all the same. But just have slightly different experiences, traits, personalities... but really all the same. - However. - Every single person makes a difference. - I thought of this analogy the other day. - When a crash happens on the expressway. It backs up traffic for possibly MILES. People all the way in the back really don’t know what’s happening because they can’t see anything. - Each individual’s reach is so much larger than we can see. Like the crash on the expressway. - Everything we say, every move we make effects the people around us. - It’s all ENERGY!!!! And it goes far beyond what we can see. - We touch more people than we can even imagine. - Those miles of backed up traffic. Because our energy is transferred to everyone and everything we come in contact with. - Basically. What I’m trying to say. - YOU. Matter. - Never think for a second that you dont. - You have so much love to give- so much life to experience. Whatever you’re dealing with. You can push though. You have everything you need inside of you already. - The world needs you- your gifts. If everyone takes care of him/her self- the world heals. - Tell me about a surreal moment you had recently. 💥💪 HOW TO HIP HINGE 💪💥 . The hip hinge is a major glute🍑 & ham🐷-builder, and a fundamental movement pattern that's used in romanian deadlifts (featured here), good mornings, cable pull-throughs, kettlebell swings, cleans & snatches (along with other things that you don't usually do in a gym... 🙊). . It's also a very DIFFICULT movement to master, and the most common one that I see people performing incorrectly (in the gym 😅). . Here are some of the most common mistakes I see, and how to correct them: . ❌ Letting your knees come forward/not shifting your weight back enough (1st video) ✅ Your knees should be SOFT (i.e., not locked out), but your weight should be in your heels, and the movement should be straight back at the hips & not down (pretend that your hands are full & you have to close a door with your butt 🤓). . ❌ Rounding your back (2nd video, left) ✅ To keep the movement safe & effective, you want to maintain a neutral spine (AKA straight back) throughout - keep your chest up, set your shoulders back & maintain a slight arch in your low-back. . ❌ Hyperextending at the neck (2nd video, right) ✅ Think about keeping your chin tucked, or look at a spot on the ground a few feet ahead of you. . ✅✅A DRILL TO PERFECT YOUR HIP HINGE (3rd video): An easy way to make sure that you're performing the movement correctly is to hold a dowel behind you contacting your butt, upper back & back of the head. As you hinge, the dowel should stay in contact with all 3 points the entire time - if anything loses contact, you know you're out of alignement! Once you've mastered that, progress to doing it in front of a wall, reaching back to touch it with your butt (or you could make it a partner exercise 😎) to make sure that you're pushing your hips back far enough. 💪💪 . TBH I’m ready for 2019. It’s been a rough year and it doesn’t feel like Christmas quite yet. What’s the ONE thing that I can control though? . . MY HEALTH HOW I CAN IMPACT OTHERS . . I’ve been able to take charge of my health by sticking to my macros (and micros) drinking enough water (most days), busting my butt in the gym (when some days I really want to cuddle up in warm PJs at home), and work really hard to make my clients and athletes better each time I’m with them, and beyond that. Those are things that I CAN CONTROL. . . Situations get sticky, life gets messy. Control what you can control. And even though I’m ready for 2018 be over, I’m going to attack it head on with my two favorite boys, and finish strong 💪🏼 at EA Fitness Solutions

🔸️Back & Triceps 🔸️Here's a snippet of tonights workout. Single Arm Dumbbell Row ~ this is the 2nd of 3 sets at a moderate weight (already did 2 heavy weight sets). At this set I'm beginning to fatigue which how I should feel. The single arm row is a great isolation move for the Lats. Superset w/Plate Overhead Tricep Extension keeping core braced, elbows in, chest lifted and shoulder blades braced I'm isolating my Triceps. ❌Team no days off❌ . . ❌Just kidding that's a terrible mindset. Fun fact: I take evry Saturday off training. It's my day! . . I teach 2 yoga classes then usually come home and just relax the rest of the day . I tend to work most days sundays and the only true down time I get is saturday afternoon, so I soak it in . In all honesty I am terrible at taking rest days . It for sure hinders my progress . I have such a love for training and a love for the gym that stepping away for is actually very hard . It has been two years since I took a whole week off....2 freaking years . This is not something you should model after me. This is a strong fault of mine . Sure it delievers me healthy benefits but rest is something that is crucial to your progress and will keep you injury free . I have ignored my share of pain so that I didn't have to take time off. I have trained through the illness and even when I'm exhausted beyond belief . I'm here to tell you that we all have our stuff. We all struggle with something in the health/fitness realm. Sure mine seems like a pretty silly problem but it still is one . So I am here to tell you to keep pushing past your struggles . 💪Dont give up, you will thank yourself later . ⛴☀️I am attempting to practice REST!
