Behind the camera I’m a mother of 3. My youngest just 9 weeks old. I am also battling postpartum depression/anxiety. My husband is a medical resident and if you’re in the medical field, you know he’s gone more then he’s home; you also will know that I’m not around any family because medical school, intern year, residency, (and soon fellowship) means that you move a lot. It’s lonely. I’m exhausted. Why am I telling your this on my dog’s instagram? Because today, when my two older kids were throwing a tantrum and my newborn was wailing I almost lost it. My mind went to places that were dark. Then like a little beacon of light, my sweetest friend— my Valere— the one who has been there all along, walked up and licked my hand. She sat and just stared at me as I was hysterically crying surrounded by the wailing of all 3 of my children. All I had to do was rest my hand on her head to start feeling a bit of peace. It helped me in a dark moment to realize I wasn’t alone. I sometimes feel that no one understands what I’m struggling with, but her little eyes told me otherwise. She can feel every emotion I feel and she loves me through it all. She’s a gift from the Lord Himself— I know this in my bones. Animals are such a blessing and we often take them for granted. Oh how I love this dog.
