Two days ago I've started my biggest project so far. The Dark Shark of Cepheus. This dark nebula is my most favorite one so I'm planning on spending a lot of time on it. This is 5 hours of the luminance data so far, I'd like to have at least 15 hours and 5 hours per color channel. Btw did I mention that I'm doing a two panel mosaic? 😅 My fov is too narrow and I wanna fit more of it into one frame, plus there is small galaxy PGC67671 which I wanna include, so multiply the times by two 😁 so you can expect some reprocessing of older stuff while I shoot this one. My record is 22 hours of integration time and I'm aiming to more than double it. Challenge accepted! _______________________________ Check out new EAGLE3 by @primalucelab for easy control of your whole setup, link in bio 👉 _______________________________ #astronomy #astrophoto #astrophotography #nebula #dark #shark #cepheus #blackandwhite #youresa #universetoday #instaphoto #instadaily #science #nature #beautiful #cosmos #telescope #photography #canon #dslr #nasa #hobby #space #universe #photooftheday #nightsky #stars #nightphotography #followme #instagood

⁣Looking down on the Dark Sector Lab at Amundsen-Scott South Pole Station. There are two powerful telescopes housed in this building. The parabolic dish on the right is the South Pole Telescope, which is examining the Cosmic Microwave Background radiation which comprises most of the universe. The circular dish on the left end of the building is a ground shield surrounding the BICEP3 telescope which is observing the inflation of the universe.⠀ ⠀ The South Pole Telescope was one of eight telescopes participating in the Event Horizon Telescope that simultaneously captured the first-ever image of a black hole. This is an illustrated logarithmic scale conception of the observable universe with the Solar System at the centre created by @pablocarlosbudassi ✨⠀ So far, we have measured 10 trillion galaxies in the universe. Multiplying that by an average Galaxy, the Milky Way's estimated 100 billion stars results in a large number indeed: 1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 stars, or a "1" with 24 zeros after it (1 septillion in the American numbering system; 1 quadrillion in the European system)⠀ ⠀ Are we alone? The Veil Nebula is a cloud of heated and ionized gas and dust in the constellation Cygnus. It constitutes the visible portions of the Cygnus Loop, a supernova remnant, many portions of which have acquired their own individual names and catalogue identifiers. The source supernova was a star 20 times more massive than the Sun, which exploded around 8,000 years ago. The remnants have since expanded to cover an area of the sky roughly 3 degrees in diameter (about 6 times the diameter, or 36 times the area, of the full Moon). The distance to the nebula is not precisely known, but Far Ultraviolet Spectroscopic Explorer (FUSE) data supports a distance of about 1,470 light-years. The Hubble Space Telescope captured several images of the nebula. The analysis of the emissions from the nebula indicate the presence of oxygen, sulfur, and hydrogen. The Cygnus Loop is also a strong emitter of radio waves and x-rays. The andromeda galaxy is the closest spiral galaxy to our own Milky Way, first thought to be a nebula inside our own galaxy we soon found out in the 1920’s thanks to Edwin Hubble that it was another galaxy besides our own.. ⁣ On a clear moonless night away from the city lights the andromeda galaxy appears as a smudge that’s larger than the full moon in the constellation Andromeda :) ⁣ ⁣ Only 7 mins exposure under bortle 7-8 skies. Jupiter, of all the planets of our solar system, is a failed star. It, just like the Sun, is mostly made of Hydrogen and Helium, but is not massive enough to have the internal pressure and temperature necessary to cause hydrogen to fuse to helium, the energy source that powers the sun and most other stars. In fact, if Jupiter had only 12 other Jupiter Masses, it would become a Brown Dwarf. We, then, would live in a binary star system, with two suns in the sky rather than one, which will make it so hard for us to sleep anyway. _ DM for picture credits. __ #astronomy #space #universe #nasa #science #astrophotography #cosmos #stars #galaxy #moon #physics #astrophysics #cosmology #earth #photography #telescope #milkyway #nightsky #spacex #sky #spaceexploration #astro #solarsystem #astronomia #facts #mars #astronaut #amazing #planets #spacefacts

Our galaxy and other nearby galaxies are being pulled toward a specific region of space. It’s about 150 million light years away, we’re not exactly sure what it is, we call it the Great Attractor. Unluckily, what makes the Great Attractor so mysterious is that it's located in a direction in the sky that's called the "Zone of Avoidance", in the general direction of the center of our galaxy, where there is so much gas and dust that we can’t see very far in the visible spectrum. We can see how our galaxy and other nearby galaxies are moving toward the great attractor, so something must be causing things to go in that direction.  __ Credits caption -edited to @universetoday Credits photo to @nasa/@europeanspaceagency __ #astronomy #space #universe #nasa #science #astrophotography #cosmos #stars #galaxy #moon #physics #astrophysics #cosmology #earth #photography #telescope #milkyway #nightsky #spacex #sky #spaceexploration #astro #solarsystem #astronomia #facts #mars #astronaut #amazing #planets #spacefacts

A large star is born in the Eagle nebula while I was recording! Actually a total of 3. If you own a telescope or even good binoculars, go take a look and you will see 3 new large white/blue stars that are toward the bottom of the nebula and pointing out diagonally in a pattern exactly like Orions belt! I also saw a slow, narrow blue jet and after it went through the 3 BiG stars appeared! **Sorry about the quality.. I have to touch the phone to snap a picture and it causes the image 2 shake but you can clearly see the new star *** #repost #cosmos #cosmology #stars #space #telescope #science #elements #refraction #interstellar #galaxy #galaxies #universe #deep #deepsky #comet #pulsar #music #drums #guitar #svt #damn #crazy

#HubbleFriday This atmospheric image taken with Hubble shows a dark, gloomy scene in the constellation of Gemini. The subject of this image confused astronomers when it was first studied — rather than being classified as a single object, it was instead recorded as two objects, owing to its symmetrical lobed structure (known as NGC 2371 and NGC 2372, though sometimes referred to together as NGC 2371/2). These two lobes are visible to the lower left and upper right of the frame, and together form something known as a planetary nebula. Despite the name, such nebulas have nothing to do with planets; NGC 2371/2 formed when a Sun-like star reached the end of its life and blasted off its outer layers, shedding the constituent material and pushing it out into space to leave just a superheated stellar remnant behind. This remnant is visible as the bright star at the center of the frame, sitting neatly between the two lobes. The structure of this region is complex. It is filled with dense knots of gas, fast-moving jets that appear to be changing direction over time, and expanding clouds of material streaming outwards on diametrically opposite sides of the remnant star. Patches of this scene glow brightly as the remnant star emits energetic radiation that excites the gas within these regions, causing it to light up. This scene will continue to change over the next few thousand years. Eventually the knotty lobes will dissipate completely, and the remnant star will cool and dim to form a white dwarf. The Leo Triplet, or the M66 Group, is a group of interacting spiral galaxies located in the northern constellation Leo. The group consists of the galaxies Messier 65, Messier 66 and NGC 3628, also known as the Hamburger Galaxy. The Leo Triplet lies at an approximate distance of 35 million light years from Earth. The three large spiral galaxies can be seen in a single field of view and are well viewed even in small telescopes. Their galactic disks are tilted at different angles when seen from Earth. NGC 3628appears edge-on, while M65 and M66 are inclined enough to reveal their spiral arms.
