An early #tbt post, to commemorate 5 months since I was in Barcelona and I’m missing it more and more everyday! I look forward to not only going back, I miss the friends I made on that trip more than anything, but to also being able to explore some new destinations. Getting to immerse myself into different cultures and ways of life is so appealing to me. The more I read and hear about cultures, traditions and foooooood makes me so excited to see what else the world has the offer, especially the parts of the world I’ve never even heard of before. Every new adventure leaves me eagerly anticipating the next, as well as helping me to see life from a different perspective. Cant wait to see where I’ll travel next... * * * * #barcelona #spain #catalunya #wednesdaywisdom #flowers #palmtrees #adventureisoutthere #travelgram #travel #traveladdict #travelblog #travelblogger #instatravel #travelphotography #exploretheworld #globetrotter #photography #photoofday #europe #europe_tourist #thetravelintern #thetravelinternlife #naynaystravels #naynaypics at Barcelona, Spain

Why Do I Travel? Curiosity. I'm curious to see the world, to learn new things, to seek discomfort. This curiosity will open my mind, seeing the world in a different light. Or maybe even, seeing Singapore in a different light. This curiosity will bring me knowledge and lessons. This curiosity will bring me experiences and memories that I can hold on to. And great messages that I can share here. Why Do I Travel? "The world is a book, and those who do not travel read only one page." - Saint Augustine Life's short. And now, I would like to turn to the next page of that book. ✨ #TheTravelIntern #TheTravelInternLife [REPOSTED due to some copyright issues]

Why I travel I’ve always been someone who was curious about the world. When I was much younger, nerdy and unatheletic, I was a librarian in my primary school library (because that’s just what little nerds did before computers were a thing). Every week, I would volunteer to shelve the books on the second floor, out of sight from the counter and the watchful eyes of the Head Librarian. It was not because I was so keen on shelving books, but rather it was so that I could nestle myself amongst the non-fiction books uninterrupted until it was time to go home. I finished the entire Horrible History series in this way — and then some. Years later, I discovered my passion for photography and one day while I was visiting the World Press Photo Exhibition, I decided there and then that I wanted to be a photojournalist to travel the world and share my experiences with people. So I saved up my money, went to school to study journalism, and after that International relations with hope that I could venture into the world out there. My thirst for travel could only be matched by my thirst for knowledge and even then they’re very much intertwined. And while I do love reading books on history and the world, there’s really nothing like seeing it in the flesh, eating food like locals do, and just being able to embrace your new surroundings. I travel because there’s no better way to experience life. Also #throwback because I’ve already posted everything recent and relevant #TheTravelIntern #TheTravelInternLife #analoguepeople #analoguephotography #35mm #shotonfilm #shootfilm #filmisnotdead #theanalogueclub #grainisgood #staybrokeshootfilm #heyfsc #shootfilmmag #shootfilmonmondays #shootfilmnotmegapixels #nikon #nikonfe2 #expiredfilm #expiredfilmgallery #bestfilmphoto #35mm_look #FILMWAVE #vietnam #travelvietnam #airplane

Spaces not bound by the Rat Race of life is what I seek and traveling is one of it. Traveling does not make your problems disappear but it does open doors to new perspectives in life. Some say perspective is all in the head but without new experiences, that’s all the perspective we’re going to have. After 15 years of “unusual family vacations”, traveling is truly where I get to explore and put together the wonders of the world for myself. A canvas of my own where I get to not just see but experience the world beyond the things that were taught; while countless 3 am mountain hikes to catch the sunrise is truly breathtaking, trekking through jungles meeting Orang Asli, getting down on our knees with both hands on the ground to crawl through a muddy bat cave with torchlights anchored on our heads, is what you call an unforgettable experience. While I have so much excitement just by recalling the time we 4-wheel-drive across a river, rode across sand-dunes, pillioned up the mountains, ate fried crickets; that surprisingly tasted like French fries, cycled from the countryside of Vietnam to their crazy city traffic, I must certainly not forget to tell you not miss out on the Bamboo Train ride when you’re in Cambodia; one train track with multiple bamboo made carriages moving like the wind, from both directions! While all those are filled with thrills and laughter, meeting individuals of different background, culture, and history is where my soul meets meaning. From the teenager who travels hours through the dark to work and later in the evening for English classes, to meeting individuals who survived war not too long ago, the children and many others who surpasses our knowledge. Travel is one of the important parts of my life that helps me to see things differently — differently from what I’ve always known, already know, and think that I know. #thetravelintern #thetravelinternlife

“Smiling but we’re close to tears ✨” . . . That’s how I’ll describe how we both felt when we entered Grand Central Terminal. Chloe and I were enveloped by the architectural beauty. People were bustling to catch their trains, to take pictures or simply to just marvel at the iconic spot which appears in many of our favourite films. It was a special moment, and I was tearing up while I was there, sounds dramatic but honestly it was simply overwhelming. Most importantly, I’m thankful to be able to be in the moment with my hoe-mie and it was memory that we’ll reminisce 30-40 years down the road. 💜 . . It wasn’t just another MTA station on the New York subway, it was a connector of journeys. It takes you from one adventure to another. Some people travel to learn, some to experience and some even travel for business. I travel to make memories and share experiences with others so that if they need to, they can use my experience and live life through me. . . So, when will my next adventure begin? ✈️🌈✨ . . ps: tagged you in my heart because that’s where you belong ayyyy 😛 at Grand Central Terminal

@ryanctrl

Q: Why do you travel? A: Fun fact: I hate plane rides. The hours feel unbearably long and my motion sickness is annoying at its best and disastrous at its worst. But, like most people, I still love to travel. Being in a new place is exciting no doubt, but the best part is when you notice the small things about the culture or the people. It's definitely eye opening. Seeing white collar workers drunk. The temples that overwhelm you. A homeless man picking up trash on one side and a group of tourists spending money at an arcade on the other. As cliche as it sounds, travelling teaches me so much more than history, culture or local business practices. It teaches me appreciation. For engineers. For farmers. For the king or a shop keeper. It reminds me how fortunate I really am. #TheTravelIntern #TheTravelInternLife

>>Why do I travel?<< . It's simple. I travel to LEARN through new experiences. Because every country has something new to teach. It doesn't matter if you're headed to a big city or wild nature. It doesn't matter if it's populated by tourists or it's a hidden gem. And it doesn't matter if you've been to the country many times before or it's your first trip there. I realised that with some open mindedness, a fresh perspective and the hunger to learn more, the unique stories, interesting people, and insightful experiences tend to follow. That's why I travel, and that's why I love it. (95% of the time anyway. The other 5% I'm completely down to try local food nonstop for a couple of days. :P) #liveandlearn #livetoeat #orwasiteattolive #thetravelintern #thetravelinternlife #throwback at Phuket, Thailand

Of snack-filled, sinus-inducing, sleepless sleeper train nights. Pro-tip: HAND SANITISER AND TOILET ROLLS. at Vietnam

1
@backpacher

I spent my last night in Ho Chi Minh wandering aimlessly (my trip was almost entirely spontaneous; basically I didn’t expect to just hop on a sleeper train and end my trip in HCM instead of Hanoi), and met this angel in the shape of a Vietnamese granny begging on the streets. I then made a rash — and honestly rather stupid — decision to spend whatever remaining money I had to get her some necessities, along with a bowl of pho. We spent the next few hours exchanging stories about our lives. Turns out, granny used to be a seamstress, until age caught up with her and she lost her vision in one eye, leaving her with no other means to survive except to turn to begging. Before I left, granny clasped her hands together, and asked if she could pray for me. This eventful night concluded the end of my first solo backpacking trip, and in that moment, I made a silent promise to come back to this magical place again. ✨ at Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam

Eastern light flooding the railways in the wakening of Hanoi, a stark contrast from the portentousness of the night. Funny how just mere hours ago, a weary traveler had had her (well, mine, if we’re being honest here) day-bag seized right out of her possession, in a very confused, language-barriered robbery. Pro-tip: stay away from dark corners at night, and always carry a day-bag you’d be okay without. 🤷🏻‍♀️ at Hanoi, Vietnam

Swiping left? Think again! Travelling by sleeper train was definitely a way saner decision than how I initially intended to spend the night – hammock, backpack, and I, by the beach. With ample leg room for the average Asian, I was delivered to my destination in the embrace of its carriages, safely and comfortably. Would I say yes to traversing through the vein of Vietnam via train again? Well, let’s just say I’d give it a Superlike. 🌟 at Vietnam

@kimberly_lai

Why do I travel? _____________________ I travel because I’m curious. I’ve always been inquisitive in nature since I was a child, asking my parents questions like “Why is the sky blue?” or (get ready for this-) “Why am I Chinese when I speak English?”. That last question left my parents laughing their heads off whilst a 4 year old me dealt with the groundbreaking realization that I am in fact not English. _____________________ This curiosity has carried on to my teenage and now adult years, even more so when I travel. I’m curious about different places, different people, different cultures. _____________________ There’s so much I want to see in the world and so much more to learn about. Traveling allows me to expand my perspective and gain a clearer view and understanding of the world around me. _____________________ Traveling has allowed me to discover more about myself and given me a deeper appreciation for what I’ve been given. Living in Singapore has provided me with a rather sheltered life where safety, cleanliness, accessibility & good education is the norm. But after traveling Europe during my exchange, I’ve learnt that these are privileges, not rights, that should not be taken for granted. #TheTravelIntern #TheTravelInternLife at Charles Bridge Prague Czech Republic

There is so much to learn and so many things to discover when you are outside your comfort zone. Now that I think about it, I realize that people who are more open and adaptable are those who travel. @ybtatkmfotg

“check out the view from here!” my father was excitedly beckoning me to an off-road path. the vastness and splendour of the sight rendered me speechless. it was a clear and unobstructed view of the sun setting. a giant golden yolk nestled in the middle of a sky split into two. one, a tangerine orange; and the other, a celestial blue. it reminded me of the liminal space i was in, the transitional phase to adulthood. if i could, i would have seized that evening’s sun and stored it away in my pocket for safekeeping. (then, every time i start sliding into obscurity, or when i need to chase away dreary evenings, i will take the sun out as a reminder that even bad days come to an end) but i couldn’t, so the closest thing to capturing the sun was with my camera. and that is why i travel; to chase after every sunrise, every sunset, to capture every new moment. for healing and strength, for wisdom and understanding. to develop feelings and make memories so intense, i won’t be able to look at that particular location the same way again. the future is unpredictable and to stay firmly rooted at just one place would be such a waste. the world is so big and i am so small, there is so much of it that i have yet to explore. #thetravelintern #thetravelinternlife at Taichung, Taiwan

@limchekhui

To me, traveling is more than hiking, trekking and flying a plane to another continent. Traveling can take place anywhere. It’s more about having a great adventure, never knowing who you might meet or what you might see. I want to learn about different cultures first-hand rather than hearing about them. I want to experience the world rather than reading about it. I want to go out and just have fun. All in all, I travel to get a sense of fulfilment. Finally, here's a quote which I thought would be nice to share: “Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.” by H. maybe i’m a hopeless hip-hop romantic🕺🏿 . . . I listen to a lot of Hip Hop. And not just because the songs have a cool beat to them & you look cool spitting out all them Eminem lyrics but because of its purpose. The genre spoke to despair and pain of urban youth and the poor who were often without a voice (at least that’s what I learnt from watching The Get Down). It was so cool learning about the history of the genre and visiting the birthplace of it all, 1520 Sedgwick Avenue. Learning all this & seeing the place that opened up my love for music wouldn’t have been possible if it weren’t for getting out of bed & deciding that I wanted to see the world. It’s funny how my parents pay so much for my education and yet, the best education I have ever received was through travel. It empowers us to see the world through another lens & realise that our world isn’t the only reality, there’s many. And this is why I travel. Because maybe the best moment of my life will be on my next big adventure. at Bronx, New York

my reasons to travel have changed over the years. my hunger for new adventures started back in 2014, when my buddy @valeriekxj and i decided to embark on a 14-day backpacking trip around the UK. back then, i wanted to see the world while simultaneously trying to push my own limits, and at the time, two 19-yo girls travelling alone in the UK was not just pushing my limits, it was taking me out of my comfort zone and chucking me into the deep end of the other side. but as it is, i loved every minute of my adventure, and it fuelled my desire to see more places around the world. . in january 2017, i embarked on one of the greatest adventures in my life aka my exchange semester in paris. two months prior to this, i had lost my father to cancer, and i flew to paris knowing full well that travelling so soon after his passing was going to be tough – and it sure was. what kept me going was the knowledge that he wanted me to see the world, and i visited so many places i knew he would have loved. so then, i travelled with extra vigour to make my dad proud. . today, not only do i travel to see the world, i travel for my family (especially my dad), and to continuously challenge myself in my effort to make me a better person. today, who i am as a traveller is a culmination of everything i am and what i have been through – my personality, my motivations, the challenges i have faced – and i expect that this, too, will evolve with the challenges of the future. #thetravelintern #thetravelinternlife

There is beauty in simplicity. People tend to envision travel as something bombastic and awe-inspiring -- and they are not wrong. Yet, travel can also be something simple, but still equally wondrous; and I think the true beauty of travelling really lies in the plethora of experiences that travel can truly afford us. One can embark on the same trip, yet go away with different memories and experiences. I think that travelling is very much an exercise of imagination as you plunge into new and foreign landscapes not knowing what to expect. And that's why I travel: a challenge to step out into the world with no expectations, and to embrace what the world has to offer. While I marvel at the beauty of the different locations of the world through photographs and videos, travel comes to afford a whole new experience, as the atmosphere makes up as much of the experience as the aesthetic. That is where words have a part to play, for a simply crafted sentence can encapsulate so much meaning and emotion that the reader is brought alongside the journey. And that is what I hope to do: to not only immerse myself in the beauty of the world through travel, but also to write. To write in a way that allows them to take on my perspective and understand my journey, and in a voice uniquely my own and like no other. #thetravelintern #thetravelinternlife

Why do I travel? Getting lost in a new country or city and stumbling upon a quaint shop, tucked away in a corner,talking to the folks there to learn more about the city, or just standing by the side of the ocean and just taking in everything, from the panoramic view of the ocean and cliffs, to the sound of waves crashing against the rocks. It is this plethora of experiences that makes me travel as learning and experiencing different cultures myself is something I can’t learn from books.The sights and sounds of a bustling city feels familiar yet foreign, the leaves rustling in the wind,makes me feel a sense of tranquility which can’t be expressed in words. I travel to become a better person. Sometimes we are so attuned to the humdrum routine of our lives that it stymied us from actually connecting to the visceral, humane part of us. We are so systemised to our daily task and pursuits that it derails us from the essence of being human, and this just goes on like a broken recorder on repeat till death comes. A life full of I, me, my. Travelling brings yourself out of focus and instead struck you with the resplendence of the universe- like a slap on your face to make you aware of the vast magnitude, people and lives out there and the epiphany of acknowledging there is so much more in life than chasing papers or attaining a specific goal. It humbles me, unshackles me from the social construct and reminds me to put weight in things and values that are actually cardinal in my life. Travelling slaps me awake. #thetravelintern #thetravelinternlife

#thetravelintern #thetravelinternlife This time last year, I lost my phone in Angkor Wat. I had a moment of panic. In a foreign country miles away from home, my phone was a reassuring safety net that kept me grounded and connected to my comfort zone. I instantly backpedalled to retrace my steps with two real amazing friends (tqsm yall aiyo) to hunt high and low!! Our happy romp through the cool touristy site bantering and taking pics was interrupted by 20 minutes of scrutinising every nook and cranny of the ancient temple. It was only then that I noticed the incredible detail and impeccable craftsmanship of all the carvings so carefully etched into the temple’s very walls. In the end, it was through losing my only tether to my comfort zone, and exploring this place with the kiddos who had my back, that led me to step away from being the typical shallow tourist, and come to truly appreciate this vestige of complex Cambodian culture. Travelling within my comfort zone gave me new experiences, but travelling outside of it gave me new perspectives, and I couldn’t be more grateful for that :”)) I truly truly believe every trip overseas gives me a special chance to reflect and change my perspectives and values and myself, and this will always be what keeps pulling me back. at Angkor Wat, Siem Reap, Cambodia

“I fell in love with unfamiliarity.” • Strolling down foreign streets and exploring the unknown, the sense of unfamiliarity constantly intrigues us. • It is when the foreign streets become native; when the unknown becomes known - that triggers us to search for more experiences. • A constant desire to experience the never-experienced, travelling became the remedy. • • • • • • • • • • #thetravelintern #thetravelinternlife#australia #melbourne #victoria#travelling #travelphotography #traveller #photography #streetphotography #monochrome #blackandwhite at Melbourne, Victoria, Australia

[I WANT TO BE A TRAVEL INTERN] - To many people, traveling may just be a usual vacation to take a breather from their hectic work and acts as an escape from the reality. However, I feel that traveling comprises more than just that. I feel that my travels should always remind me to be thankful and to appreciate the little things that I have. Hence, I favour traveling to less developed countries like Indonesia and Cambodia than other highly sought-after countries. I often dream that if I have the means, I will want to travel around the world in 365 days to have a broader perspective of this globe and interact with other human beings of different cultures, colours and languages that I do not know of. Indeed, travelling has given me a deeper meaning to life through all the unplanned encounters at every destinations that I have been. So…. “Why do I travel?” it’s a question that have infinite answers. I guess, after all, it's the journey of making new discoveries and adding value to myself along the way.. Discovering new things from people… discovering new cultures in cities to countries.. And discovering the new me. I feel that knowing how different other people that are living in the same planet as me lives, is definitely something refreshing. Being able to understand cultures, histories, learning new things, growing as an individual and meeting new people makes every traveling experience an invaluable and special one. Every traveling experience has a story to tell and I live for such travel life! . . #thetravelintern #thetravelinternlife . #shotoniphone #travel #adventure #adventuretime #holiday #vacation #morethanthat #story #stories #photography #photooftheday #writing #videography #traveltheworld #indonesia #japan #bromo #ijen #color #mountains at Around the World

[Why do I travel?] There is so much to see, there is so much to experience out there and I don't want to be missing out on the adventures. To travel is to see things from others' perspectives, to make human connections while understanding their culture and to live life to the fullest. So let's go out, explore, and forge beautiful friendships along the way ✨ — #thetravelintern #thetravelinternlife at Ban Noen, Phetchabun, Thailand

YEP Serve Myanmar 2018. 🌎 I fell in love with travelling at 17. When I bought my own luggage and thick clothing to prepare for my trip to Korea during the winter season. It was my first overseas trip with my friend. My family never brought me anywhere besides Malaysia. I never knew much about the world. Travelling to Korea was memorable, but the thought of planning my trip, counting down the days, getting to the airport and finally reaching my destination thrills me more anything. I just love the feeling of being abroad and discovering something I’ve never seen in Singapore. #thetravelinternlife #TheTravelIntern

"Why do I travel?" For me personally, I feel that memories are the most important things in life. I believe my memories are the only things that will stay with me throughout my life time(even though memories do fade). Travelling to me is the best way to create new and long lasting memories. Our first encounter to something will always leave the greatest impact on our minds and create memories that tend to last longer. Travelling is the best way to encounter new things, meet new people, try new food and create new memories. I love photography too because it can help me freeze those special moments that I encounter while travelling, as well as, documenting those memories. I am also able to share these memories or stories with others and encourage them to create their own later on. . . . . . . . . . . #instapassport #thecreative #artofvisuals #aroundtheworldpix #ig_masterpiece #theprettycities #flashesofdelight #travelog #mytinyatlas #visualmobs #theglobewanderer #forahappymoment #exploringtheglobe #travelon #visualsoflife #visualambassadors #illgrammers #moodygrams #agameoftones #unlimitedparadise #singaporean #sgvsco #fatalframes #sglife #yoursingapore #thisissingapore #nikonphotography #saintpetersburg #TheTravelIntern #TheTravelInternLife at Saint Petersburg, Russia

Taken at The State Hermitage, which is a museum of art and culture in Saint Petersburg, Russia. The second-largest museum in the world, it was founded in 1764 when Empress Catherine the Great acquired an impressive collection of paintings from the Berlin merchant Johann Ernst Gotzkowsky. This place really gave me a straight outta Harry Potter vibe. . . . . . . . . . . . . . #instapassport #thecreative #artofvisuals #aroundtheworldpix #ig_masterpiece #theprettycities #flashesofdelight #travelog #mytinyatlas #visualmobs #theglobewanderer #forahappymoment #exploringtheglobe #travelon #awesome_earthpix #campinassp #visualoflife #awesome_naturepix #visualambassadors #visualsoflife #illestgrammers #russiaphoto #russia_fotolovers #russiamylove #rus_fotos #rus_places #russ_photos #TheTravelIntern #TheTravelInternLife at The Hermitage Museum
