Lamp with a Silenus mask in the #thorvalsdenmuseum collection. Roman, 40-80 BC. “The original Silenus resembled a folkloric man of the forest with the ears of a horse and sometimes also the tail and legs of a horse.[1] The later sileni were drunken followers of Dionysus, usually bald and fat with thick lips and squat noses, and having the legs of a human. Later still, the plural "sileni" went out of use and the only references were to one individual named Silenus, the teacher and faithful companion of the wine-god Dionysus.[2] A notorious consumer of wine, he was usually drunk and had to be supported by satyrs or carried by a donkey. Silenus was described as the oldest, wisest and most drunken of the followers of Dionysus, and was said in Orphic hymns to be the young god's tutor. This puts him in a company of phallic or half-animal tutors of the gods, a group that includes Priapus, Hermaphroditus, Cedalion and Chiron, but also includes Pallas, the tutor of Athena.[Wikipedia]” #pottery #ceramics #ceramicart #historyofceramics #keramik #陶器 #陶瓷 #도기류 #도예 #keramikk #ceramica #seramik #seramic #poterie #instapottery

Dancing to the tune of love one has to know the rhythm, when to change partners and when to sit down. Sometimes it stings you like a bee and you never forget the moment. Sometimes it leaves a scar. In the end, you'll be happy it happened to you. #marble #thorvaldsen #thorvalsdenmuseum #love #cupid #gods #mythology #mercury #sculpture #art #beauty #greek #Copenhagen #Denmark #travelling #wanderer #europe #eurovacation #wanderlust #educational #statues #legend #masterpiece #maria #art #oneofakind #perfection #webstagram #Instagram #

Ganymede with Jupiter's Eagle 1817 In Greek mythology the boy Ganymede was carried up to Olympus to be the gods' taster, and it was Zeus who took the shape of an eagle to do this. Ganymede was to replace Hebe who spilled the nectar that made the gods immortal. #marble #thorvaldsen #thorvalsdenmuseum #eagle #ganymede #gods #mythology #sculpture #art #beauty #greek #Copenhagen #Denmark #travelling #wanderer #europe #eurovacation #wanderlust #educational #statues #legend
