David Bacon (1914 – 1943) was an American film actor. A graduate of Harvard, he vacationed with his family on Cape Cod where he became involved, during the early 1930s, with the "University Players" along with other unknown actors like James Stewart and Henry Fonda. Moving to Los Angeles he met and married Austrian singer, Greta Keller. In her later years, Keller disclosed that she and Bacon were both gay and that their marriage allowed both of them to maintain a respectable image in Hollywood. In 1942, Howard Hughres signed David to an exclusive contract. Hughes loaned out Bacon for a role in the Republic serial "The Masked Marvel". The serial was poorly produced and marked a low point in David's career, with his wife recalling that he was completely humiliated by it. Despite that, it remains his best-remembered work. On September 13, 1943, David was seen driving erratically before running off the road, in Santa Monica, and into the curb. Several witnesses saw him climb out of the car and stagger briefly before he collapsed. David asked them to help him, as they neared him, but he died before he could say anything more. A small knife wound was found in his back. The blade had punctured his lung and caused his death. His wife, in an advanced stage of pregnancy, collapsed when she heard of her husband's death, and later her baby was stillborn. David's murder has never been solved. #davidbacon #gretakeller #tragicdeath #unsolvedmurder #Hollywood #themaskedmarvel

The coffin of American President John Fitzgerald Kennedy is shown while laying in state in the Rotunda of the United States Capitol Building, just two days after his tragic assassination in Dallas, Texas. The US Capitol Building, Washington DC. November 24th 1963. The body and bronze coffin of President Kennedy was brought back to the White House at about 4:30 AM the previous day, where he was placed in a new mahogany coffin and then brought it to the East Room to lay in repose just like how President Abraham Lincoln did almost 100 years before. Kennedy's coffin also laid on the exact same catafalque that President Lincoln's coffin rested on. President Kennedy's coffin remained closed due to the horrific head wound Kennedy suffered. Jackie Kennedy, who was still wearing her famous blood-stained pink dress, hadn't left the side of her husband for the entire time, and only after the coffin was placed in the East Room did she finally retire to her private quarters. President Kennedy laid in the East Room for 24 hours with honor guards that included personnel from the United States Marines and United States Army Green Berets, and after a mass was said in the White House at 10:30 AM on November 23rd many in the government came to pay their respects. Among them were two living former US Presidents, Harry Truman and Dwight Eisenhower, but former President Herbert Hoover was sadly too ill to go. President Kennedy's coffin eventually was placed on the same horse-drawn carriage that carried the coffin of President Franklin Roosevelt after he died in 1945, and it began to slowly head down Pennsylvania Avenue to the US Capitol. 300,000 people were estimated to have watched the carriage as it went down the road. The coffin would stay in the US Capitol Rotunda until November 24th, when it would be solemnly taken to St. Matthew's Cathedral for a large funeral mass. Later that day, President John Fitzgerald Kennedy was finally buried with honor in Arlington National Cemetery. His brother Robert would join him there in 1968, his wife Jackie in 1994, and another brother, Ted, in 2009. John and Jackie's two deceased babies, Patrick and Arabella, were also buried there with them.

Sweet Clarine Seymour began films with the Thanhouser company in New York and came west to work with Pathe. When D.W. Griffith found her, she was working in Christie comedies. He was casting for "The Girl Who Stayed at Home" (1919) and cast her in a secondary role as Cutie Beautiful. She also appeared in "True Heart Susie" (1919) and "Scarlet Days" (1919) before being given the female lead in "The Idol Dancer" (1920). Unfortunately, she was to live only one month after the premiere of the movie. She died in New York on April 25, 1920, during an operation for strangulation of the intestines. She had just signed a four-year contract that assured her of two million dollars in income during that time. She was only 21 years of age. #hollywood #tragicdeath #clarineseymour

Eva May (1902 – 1924) was an Austrian actress. She was the daughter of the film director Joe Mandl (professionally known as Joe May) and his wife, actress Mia May. Eva grew up on the set of her father's films and, in 1914, she made her debut in his film "The Black Triangle". The film also featured her mother. Her talent was obvious and she began working steadily. In 1919 alone she appeared in 10 films. She quickly earned the nickname "Jedermann's Liebling" (Everyone's Darling). In the end Eva appeared in almost 30 films. Eva was married three times before the age of 22, each time to film directors. In 1923, she attempted suicide by slashing her wrists but was found in time to save her life. She had been having trouble with her father, the other men in her life, and felt it was her only choice. In 1924 she became engaged to another film director, Rudolf Sieber. He broke off their engagement and married actress Marlene Dietrich instead. Eva May shot, and killed, herself on September 10, 1924. She was only 22 years old. #tragicdeath #evamay #joemay #austrianactress #film #suicide

Seventeen year old Juan Romero is shown kneeling beside mortally wounded senator Robert Kennedy, the brother of assassinated President John F. Kennedy. The Ambassador Hotel, Los Angeles, California. June 5th 1968. Senator Kennedy was in Los Angeles for his presidential campaign, and he had just won the California presidential primaries, putting him one step closer for the Democratic nomination for President of the United States. Kennedy had given a speech rallying his supporters and he was soon on his way out of the hotel, but he and his entourage went through the kitchen for a quicker way out. He stopped to shake hands with busboy Juan Romero just as Sirhan Sirhan, angry at Kennedy's support to send fifty bombers to Israel, stepped out with a 22. caliber revolver and repeatedly fired at Kennedy. Sirhan was quickly forced to the ground and disarmed, although Kennedy was hit several times including in the head, but he was amazingly still conscious. Kennedy's wife Ethel went and sought help, and soon several doctors arrived to help Kennedy and they put him on a stretcher, causing him to mutter: "Don't lift me..." Those would be the final words of senator Robert Francis Kennedy. He lost consciousness shortly afterwards and he was brought to the Good Samaritan Hospital, and although he went in immediate and extensive surgery he finally died at 1:44 AM on June 6th, 1968, just 26 hours after the shooting and less than five years after his brother John F. Kennedy. Sirhan Sirhan was arrested and brought to trial, and he claimed to have picked June 5th to kill Kennedy as it was the anniversary of the beginning of the Six Day War between Israel and it's neighbors. Sirhan was born in Jerusalem and he was deeply anti-Zionist, but he claimed he only killed Robert Kennedy because of the senator's support for Israel. Sirhan Sirhan is now in a San Diego prison and to this day he has had repeated claims he was drunk, framed or even hypnotized into killing Robert Kennedy, but he is still serving life imprisonment. Some say this assassination was the very first major incident of political violence in the United States stemming from the Arab-Israeli conflict in the Middle East.

Ruan Lingyu (1910- 1935) was a promrnent Chinese film actress. Ruan was born to a working class family in Shanghai. Her father died when she was young, and her mother brought her up working as a housemaid. In 1926, to help make ends meet, Ruan signed up for the well-known Mingxing Film Company and made her first film at the age of 16. Two years later, she was signed by Da Zhonghua Baihe Company, where she shot six more films. Her first big break came in "Spring Dream of an Old Capital" (1930), for the Lianhua Studio, which was a huge hit in China. This film made her a major film star. In 1934 she played a prostitute bringing up a child in "The Goddess" which is often referred to as the pinnacle of Chinese cinema. Later the same year, Ruan made her greatest film, "New Women", based on the life of actress Ai Xia who had committed suicide that year. Ruan Lingyu’s personal life was highly troubled. Her marriage to Zhang Damin, the son of her mother’s employer, ended in a split due to the gambling habit he acquired after his family disowned him. Shortly after leaving Zhang Damin, Ruan began an affair with a tea tycoon. Zhang sued Ruan for damages. The press quickly picked up on this scandal and set out to make Ruan's life a living hell. Today's tabloids are still destroying lives. Faced with her public issues and intense private problems, Ruan killed herself with an overdose of barbiturates, in Shanghai, at the age of 24. Her suicide note contained a line which says "gossip is a fearful thing" . Recent researchers believe her crumbling relationship with her lover may have contributed to Ruan's suicide. He is believed to have physically abused her on the night of her suicide. Her funeral procession was 3 miles long, with three women committing suicide during the event. The New York TImes called it "the most spectacular funeral of the century". #ruanlingyu #chineseactress #tragicdeath

Little Barnes “Breezy” Eason, Jr. (1914-1921) was a child silent movie actor. Breezy was the son of director Barnes Reaves Eason and actress Jimsy May. Eason Sr. put his son in films when he was barely able to walk. Known as the “Wonderchild of the Screen,” and “Universal’s Littlest Cowboy,” young Breezy grinned and laughed his way to screen fame at Universal Studios, appearing in a dozen films with such actors as Theda Bara, Thomas Meighan, Hoot Gibson, and Harry Carey. In the film, "Nine-Tenths of the Law" (1918), Breezy was directed by his father and appeared along side his mother and grandmother, Mollie Shafer. Breezy also had the chance to be the star of his own film, The Big Adventure (1921) – which was again directed by his father. On Friday, October 21, 1921, Breezy, who had recently finished filming "The Fox" (1921) with Harry Carey, was playing like any six year-old at his home in Hollywood. At some point, Breezy ran out into the street in front of a truck; the driver was unable to avoid hitting him. The boy was taken to the hospital where surgeons worked to try and save his life. Actor Harry Carey, who was extremely fond of the little boy, rushed to the hospital and stayed by Breezy's side until he died of his injuries 4 days later. Out of respect, Universal Studios shut down for the day of Breezy's funeral. He is buried at Hollywood Forever Cemetery. #breezyeason #hollywood #tragicdeath

Sweet Sidney Fox was an American stage and film actress. As a young model she began studying acting and contacting movie moguls asking for a film role. She was told to get some more training in "stock" theater and to come back when she was older. She joined a touring theater company and, within a year, had landed a role in a Broadway show. Sidney made her film debut in the 1931 film "Bad Sister", with Humphrey Bogart. This film was followed by "Murders in the Rue Morgue" and "Don Quixote". Many other roles in many other films followed. Her last picture would be 1934's "Down to Their Last Yacht". Sidney was often in the tabloids, unfairly and incorrectly linked to Hollywood higher-ups who could further her career. She was also married to a man who drank heavily and, supposedly, abused her. She began suffering from depression as her career dried up. On the evening of November 15, 1942, Sidney and her husband discussed going out to dinner with friends but decided to turn in early in anticipation of going to church the next morning. They retired to separate bedrooms. In the morning her husband went to wake her and found her dead. There was an empty prescription drug bottle on the nightstand. The coroner could not come to a conclusion as to whether her death was accidental or suicide. Sidney was only 30 years old when she passed. In an interview with one of the popular movie magazines of the time, she reflected on her screen image: "My greatest cross is that my face and body don’t match my mind and soul. People expect me to be an ingénue, a baby doll, and they’re terribly disappointed when they find I’m not. At parties, I’ve seen men ask to be introduced to me, and I knew they thought I was attractive, but after talking to me a few minutes they’d turn away in dismay. Helen Burgess (1916-1937) was an American film actress. Born in Portland, Oregon, Helen was starring in a play in Los Angeles, when she was approached by a Paramount Pictures talent scout. While she was visiting Paramount, she was approached by the legendary Cecil B. DeMille. DeMille was looking to cast a supporting role in "The Plainsman" (1936). Helen read for the part of Louisa Cody, opposite and was cast. DeMille was quoted, on his casting of Burgess,: "I broke a rule of 25 years' standing when I chose Miss Burgess for the part of Louisa Cody. It was the first time that I have cast a player without previous screen experience in an important role. But, as soon as I saw Miss Burgess, I realized that she had the making of a strong and appealing screen personality." Strong praise, indeed. In 1937, she was cast in "A Doctor's Diary", "King of Gamblers" and "Night of Mystery". Her future looked bright. However; in April of 1937, on the set of "Night of Mystery", Helen developed a cold. Her condition worsened, to the point that she was hospitalized with lobar pneumonia. On the morning of April 7, she was placed in an oxygen tent but she died later that evening. She was only 20 years old. #helenburgess #tragicdeath #hollywood
