BACK PAIN/STOP STRETCHING - Yes I said it.. I’ll explain. - One of the great take aways I learned from @hypertrophycoach - Stretching is cool and all, might make you feel better for a little, but stretching doesn’t actually make anything stronger, just provides temporary relief. To actually stop the pain and fix your squat or deadlift or whatever it may be, from what I have learned, you have to train the right muscles with contractions that will make those areas stronger rather than just loosen them up. Get stronger in certain positions that your body is weak in, and find the pain goes away. - This is a great 5 minute routine anyone can do. All exercises should be done with 5 second contractions or holds, 5 reps of each. They may look easy but trust me they’re brutal. ☄️ The first exercise is training the end range of motion for your hip flexors. Make sure you flex your quad and use your hip flexors to raise your leg up. Find wherever the range of motion starts to get difficult, everyone is different, and hold that position. ☄️ The next exercise is some of the same concept. Lay on your back, flex your quad and keep your leg straight the whole time. Bring it up to wherever you can without your back lifting off the ground, and use your hand to push against your leg as you try and push your leg back. ☄️ The next is a glute bridge variation. This will be great for activating 🍑 and finding and getting some muscles to fire correctly to give you more range of motion. Go into a butterfly stretch and lay back, push your feet together as hard as you can, push your heels into the ground, and raise your hips up. Keep your ribs and core down, and squeeze your glutes. ☄️ The last one looks easy but is brutal. Sit down and raise your leg almost 90 degrees. Take your hand and push against your knee, as you try and drive your knee up through your hand. - If you follow these movements, it will probably take less time than stretching, and I can almost guarantee it will do a lot more for you. Train/recover smarter. Do this everyday either pre workout or when you wake up or go to bed, for 4-6 weeks, and let me know the results you see. 💪🏽 at Gainesville, Virginia

SINGLE-LEG SQUAT: The single-leg squat is a good functional training progression from the bodyweight squat (scroll previous posts to read more about the bodyweight squat). Hands can be in front of you or on the hips. Balance on one leg while holding the other back for counterbalance. From the front, notice that hip, knee, and foot are aligned and the hips are stable and parallel to the ground. From the side, notice the foot is stable and the back is neutral. Flexion should be equal from the ankle, knee, and hip. This movement increases the focus on the quadriceps because there is more knee flexion. When doing this movement, take note of any deviations like knees going in, hips posteriorly tilting or shifting left/right, or heels coming up off the ground. These are all indications of weak glutes, hamstrings, and paraspinal muscles. When heels come up, that also indicates weak calves. If you notice any of these, I can suggest strengthening exercises. Just ask me😊 By the way, 3 x 10 on each leg are a great addition to leg day warm ups. Post run selfie...Running is a great follow up to lifting/resistance workouts. It helps flush out lactic acid (waste product from exercise) in the muscles, reducing post-workout soreness and stiffness. Workout tip: if you are sore for more than 2 days after a workout, you went too hard and would benefit more from easing up on the intensity or weight of what you were doing. Abzzz on Cables! 🔥1. Bosu Ball Cable Rope Crunch 🔥2. Kneeling Cable Crunch 🔥3. Kneeling Cable Oblique Crunches 🔥4. Lying Cable Bottoms Up - How To Complete ⬇️ 🔥1. Place your upper back on the bosu ball so your butt is on a slight decline. Make sure your back is able to round over the bosu ball. Grab the rope with both hands and place around your neck. Your elbows should be facing forward (towards your knees). Once set crunch towards your quads/knees. Repeat! - 🔥2. Grab a mat or some padding and get on your knees facing away from the cables. Grab the rope and place around your neck. Engage your core and crunch towards your upper theighs/hips. The more your back rounds the more core engagement you'll have. Repeat! - 🔥3. Grab a mat or some padding and get on your knees facing away from the cables. Grab the rope and place around your neck. Engage your core and crunch to your left or right side. Make sure you twist your torso slightly as you go down. If you dont feel your obliques getting tight, restart and and try again with more contraction. Repeat! - 🔥4. Grab two ankle attachments and lye flat on your back. I set up a bench / step up to hold onto for support. Keep your heels together and bring your knees in towards your chest. Once at chest level drive your feet towards the air till legs are almost / fully extended. @1stphorm Caramel Peanut Butter Cookie Cake: Ingredients: - 2 cup all-purpose flour - ½ tsp baking soda - ½ cup ghee or smart balance butter or coconut oil - ½ cup peanut butter - ¾ cup coconut sugar or truvia - ¼ cup honey - 1 cup of peanut butter and chocolate chips - 1 scoop of @1stphorm level 1 caramel latte protein powder Directions: 1. Preheat the oven to 350 2. Take all ingredients and put in a kitchen aid mixer 3. Mix until dough forms 4. Spray cast iron skillet 5. Take dough and spread into pan 6. Complete upper body/abdominal combination! What you'll need: A pair of kettlebells and (optional) a raised bench or pad! How to perform: 1. Place your hands on the kettlebells and position yourself into a wide plank 2. While transferring weight to one side, pull the opposite side kettlebell towards the side of your ribcage 3. Slowly return to the starting position and switch sides and repeat for 10 reps! 4. At the end of your last row, readjust your kettlebells in front of your plyo box (bench etc.) 5. Place your feet atop the box and hands on the kettlebells. 6. Perform a decline pushup by lowering yourself until your chest is slightly lower than the handles. 7. Repeat 10 times! Low back pain can often stifle back workouts, but it doesn’t have to limit them completely. While certain exercises like bentover or seated rows may sometimes be aggravating, seal rows and TRX rows can often be less uncomfortable and still provide a great stimulus. . Vertical pulling is a little more variable as some people feel better with an exercise like the pull-up while others feel worse. My recommendation would be to try different vertical pulls in sitting, half kneeling, or even quadruped to see what works best for you. . Exercise Spotlight: Landmine Squat to Press (aka Landmine Thruster) ——————- The Why: This exercise is a great full body challenger that will drive your heart rate through the roof! It is also great for increasing energy expenditure. Use it in circuits, for interval training, or as a finisher for a shoulder or leg workout! .. —————- The What: Landmine Thrusters work your core (big time!), back, legs, shoulders and triceps! To be honest, pretty much everything is included in some way or another. .. —————— The How: 0.1: Set up a land mine station or put a Barbell into a corner of the room. — a) Hold the end of the Barbell like a Goblet Squat just out in front of your chest. b) Set your shoulders down and back, plus keep your core braced and neutral spine. c) Squat back, keeping your knees out and Center pressure on your feet. d) Drive through the ground, extending your body and seamlessly press the Barbell overhead using both arms as evenly as possible. e) Repeat. —- HINTS: 1) Although this is both an upper and lower body exercise, you shouldn’t separate the squat movement from the press movement. Purposely use the momentum from your legs to help press the weight up overhead; this allows you to use enough weight to challenge your legs. 2) Experiment with the width of your squat stance. Every single person will have a slightly different stance and this variation feels awkward the first time regardless.
