Looking at the numbers this may actually be my hardest day of the week 🤔. Mix of upper and lower work (yes I only show the lower), highest weight/rep squats, heavy trap bars and 5 different supersets. But we surviving and made it through. Well, making it, bc I'm still here 😂. . Twinning up with @bonschro for trap bar dead day, 4x6 at 290 feeling easy peasy. I like this giant rogue trap bar. Minus carrying it around bc I feel like a tiny lil person. . 3/4 pause high bar, 4x6 at 105kilos (230lbs) like ooooo wee I saw God on some of those last reps. 305 lbs baby! 2 sets× 3reps Not quite yet at 315 even though I thought I could lift it today I didn't want to chance it. Last time I lifted 315 I jumped up in weight too quick without getting used to my current weight before I could move up. That's how I ended up getting hurt. Here we are though, only 10 lbs away from my goal. Felt great today! Happy Summer! This is one of my most commonly asked questions... why we prefer the trap bar deadlift over the straight bar.... ——————————————————— Due to tight shoulders and hips, many combat athletes find the Conventional Deadlift difficult to perform. This can affect technique, especially rounding of the back! This can increase the risk of injury, and limit the amount of load lifted. At Boxing Science, we prefer the Trap Bar Deadlift. The handles on the Trap Bar (Hex Bar) are in a neutral position and higher than the straight bar. This allows for a better and easier scapula retraction, as well as making it easier to achieve a stronger hip position. These modifications help improve the lifting technique, reducing loading through the spine and allowing higher weight loads to be lifted. Wednesday Workouts: Instead of “constantly varied” or “functional” workouts that change every day, wrap your head around trying to master just a few basic compound movements like Squat, Bench Press, Deadlift etc and I guarantee you’ll make more progress. Practise what you preach! - - - Here @dazzwhatilike, @liam.mcneill_ And @vaughntru are completing their alactic session. - - - We want to make sure we are not throwing the body in two different directions so the whole session was run to 10second intervals with long rest periods. In between trap bar jump sets they would complete some not so fatiguing accessories and rest as long as needed to be able to complete the same amount of reps (if not more) than the previous set. - - - Now if you look back at my last post, I did complete more reps than all these guys, this shows how important movement efficiency is with these lifts and high velocity training. I am certainly not fitter than these guys but I have done the movements for a lot longer. #sportscience #jumptraining #strengthandconditioning

Hex Bar Lifts: 425 lbs - 4 sets of 8 (1:30 rest in between sets) Hex Bar Farmer Walks + 8 lifts with 325 lbs for four rounds (1:30 rest in between sets) Box (platform) jumps: 4 rounds of 8 (45 second rest in between sets) Power crawl + sprint intervals at 80-85% maximum effort (roughly 10-15 seconds rest between the crawl and sprint); repeat for four rounds. A few clips from one of my recent strength and conditioning sessions. These weren’t all the workouts, but the best ones that I could fit in to a minute long clip! Hex Bar Lifts: 425 lbs - 4 sets of 8 (1:30 rest in between sets) Hex Bar Farmer Walks + 8 lifts with 325 lbs for four rounds (1:30 rest in between sets) Box (platform) jumps: 4 rounds of 8 (45 second rest in between sets) Power crawl + sprint intervals at 80-85% maximum effort (roughly 10-15 seconds rest between the crawl and sprint); repeat for four rounds. 🏋️‍♀️Hey gang, had a chance to work with a weightlifting bar I’ve been wanting to try. I called it an Octagon bar (hence the shape ) but officially I believe it l’s called a Trap Bar, in case your searching for it on-line. 🏋️‍♀️When I was at @crunch23rd I had a chance to use it, my current gym does not have one, but I’ve requested it many times. 🏋️‍♀️This can really help a new lifter learn the body mechanics of a deadlift a little easier, with a grip that keeps the arms in a more advantageous position. 🏋️‍♀️ I felt much more confident with trying to advance a heavier weight load myself. I pulled 240 on that last rep, with the bar itself apparently weighing 60lb, from what I was told. 🏋️‍♀️Since hurting my back few months ago I haven’t pulled my max of 225 yet. Now that I’m completely healed up, I was able to pull 240 pretty easily and I believe this bar type helped, so also a great way to progress if you are an experienced lifer as well. 🏋️‍♀️For Training and Coaching services, don’t hesitate to reach out! Couple weeks are bringing back the trap bar and the improvements are obvious! Bar is coming off the ground much more comfortably, volume is more manageable and strength is tangible on other exercises! What else do you want? Remember, 6 pack abs are a result of consistently healthy eating combined with calorie deficit. Traps however; traps are made by carrying, lifting and throwing heavy shot around! My choice of camera angle does not do my squat depth justice believe me... Worked on some "heavy" squats and then killed myself with a 10x10 method of trap bar deads and leg raises and that was it... Simple workout, but it made me sweat and kicked my ass. Had to start out light on the deads because I'm not gonna pick a weight that I can't complete a set of 10 with later on. Trap bar jumps are a great exercise for developing lower body power! Aka improving rate of force development! . Once an athlete has built a solid strength base and they’ve learnt how to jump and how to land, then they can look to progress onto exercises like trap bar jumps! . Trap bar jumps are great, as they have a relatively low teaching time, assuming the athlete can already trap bar deadlift, so all you’re doing is turning the same movement into a jump. The main thing with trap bar jumps is, you want to pull the slack out of the bar and develop whole body tension before you jump, don’t just grip it and rip it, and then absorb the landing and either stick it, or guide the bar back the ground. . As with any power based exercises, keep reps low (1-5) and rest periods long (2-3 mins). I prefer to cluster the sets as well, having 5-10s rest between each rep, to really get the most out of each rep! . Trap bar jumps train triple extension (hip, knee and ankle extension), which is vital for athletes, as this is the same action performed when running/jumping. Projecting into free space, as you do when jumping, negates the deceleration that occurs at the end of any lift that doesn’t project into free space, basically meaning your accelerating throughout the entirety of the concentric phase! . Also, the version shown is off the ground/blocks, meaning there is no stretch shorten cycle (SSC), you can perform them from a standing start if you’re looking to train the SSC, as opposed to starting strength/power. . I HAVE BEEN LIED TO So turns out this bar isn't 20kg but instead is a fat bastard and weighs 32kg. So in short I've been huffing because I haven't been able to reach my PB of 170kg since peaking a few months ago which is still seemingly a mile off my goal of 200kg. Using VBT to track “velocity loss” during a set is one of the biggest impacts @TrainWithPUSH has had on my coaching & our results at @pacefitacademy . This helps keep athletes safe while still working hard and getting undeniable results. _ VELOCITY LOSS: This is the difference in velocity between your best (or first) rep of the set & your worst rep of the set. We believe that 20% velocity loss is the cutoff sweet spot for each set your perform on compound lifts. In other words, when you perform a set of 5 Trap Bar Deadlifts like @taaylorrb here, the velocity loss should be around 15-20%. If it’s higher than 20%, we need to either adjust technique or lower the weight. If it’s lower than 15% it may be too easy for that given amount of reps. This particular set was a 5-rep PR for her at a velocity loss of 20% which is a perfect stopping point. _ In a study comparing lifting to 20% velocity loss vs. 40% velocity loss, the 20% group was able to achieve equal strength gains, better jump performance and more preservation of fast twitch muscle fibers all while performing significantly less reps over an 8-week program (Pareja-Blanco, et al. Scand J Med Sci Sports. 2016.). Now THAT’S EFFICIENT! I like efficiency. Great work Taylor!

The trap bar works the glutes, the lower back, the quadriceps, the hamstrings, the trapezius, the abdominal muscles and the forearms (grip strength is very underappreciated). A trap bar simply allows for more freedom of movement. A barbell deadlift requires a particular type of pull – it must be hip-dominant because the barbell must stay in front of your legs through the lift.
