❤️ Left bowl = tasty and nutritious for my physical health.. ❤️ Right bowl = delicious AF, less nutritious but beneficial for my mental and personal enjoyment. ⠀ Some of my favourite food! ......But both bowls are needed! ⠀ Because “health” isn’t found once you eat a whole bunch of celery or after you shot a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar in the morning. ⠀ “Health” is found when you’re not only looking after yourself physically but when you focus on your overall mental health as well. ⠀ Yes, sweating and moving my body, and eating veggies and whole foods is “health” to me, and what I do majority of the time...... But so is ordering pizza or Thai takeaway with friends and family. Having a few too many sips of baileys with my mum. And a handful of fruit and nut mix with extra chocolate added! ⠀ The choices I make about food are a combination of the situations I’m in at the time and how I’m feeling. Yes, more frequently it will be fruit or vegetables. #Repost @caloriesmix ・・・ Snacks on snacks this weekend, and no end in sight! It’s humid AF, so much work to get done, and appetite is a little weird so I’m going back to hearty snacks that *could* become meals but are really just simple ingredients mixed together in a bowl . 🥒 Cucumbers are everywhere right now and to be honest eating them plain is kind of the last option for me. Instead, I stack them high with other favorites, like hummus, cheese, or in this case, my favorite version of tuna salad . 😍 I’m also v v into these @Hyvee pita chips right now because of how crunchy they are. Satisfaction and fullness from a meal is about more than just physical fullness sometimes - we eat with our eyes and all of our senses so including variety in the flavors, textures, and colors in your meals or snacks is never a bad idea . credit: @streetsmart.rd

PARTIAL REPS VS FULL REPS🏋 Follow @u.gymguide for more tips every day🏻 💪🏽Both Partial reps and full reps have been shown to elicit similar hypertrophic effects when compared (McMahon et al., 2014, Pinto et al., 2012). However, these studies did also happen to show a greater increase in strength for the group using full range of motion (ROM). Of course, there is the limitation that the weights used did not change between groups & so it is expected that lifting the same weight through a greater ROM will lead to greater benefits. Nonetheless, this is still food for thought🤔 . 🔥Partial reps certainly have a place and can be very helpful when overcoming sticking points in lifts. For example, using pin presses to help with lockout in bench press or rack pulls for deadlift lockout. They are also beneficial to those who are injured and don’t possess the ability to get into their end range✅ . 📌To conclude, the research leans towards a full rep, full range of motion approach, but I think both aspects should be utilised in your training. In terms of progress, total volume is always your priority✌🏽 . 🤙Tag a friend who needs to know this!

Staying full while aiming to lose fat or get your weight under control comes down to a set of factors:

1. Sleep quality and duration (sorry new moms and dads)
2. Protein quantity
3. Hydration
4. Fibre
5. Stress management

When it comes to food though, you can make this VERY simple by thinking about calorie density.

Of course there’s a few exceptions, like avocados, but most foods that are both big but lower in calories tend to be high in water, fibre and/or protein.

What’s the lowest calorie dense substance you can put in your body?
-
Water. And a lot of the times you feel hungry, you’re just dehydrated.
-
But as this image shows, consider your choices vs the choices here.
-
This isn’t about healthy vs unhealthy, it’s about calorie density.
-
When it comes to food and staying full, VOLUME matters more than calories.
-
So when you have the apple instead of the muffin, you save about 320 calories for the same amount of satisfaction for your stomach.
-
When you choose mixed nuts as a protein source instead of a chicken breast — even though you should know nuts don’t have much protein — you give up a ton of protein, which is filling, and you add calories.

Just an example.

What’s next after water in terms of low calorie density? -
Green vegetables!

So when you a cup of dried fruit instead of something like a cup of broccoli, you add major calories for a similar amount of satisfaction to your stomach.

Nothing wrong with dried fruit, I’m just using these as examples because they’re swaps you may be making.

The difference in this post is 1000 calories. And that could make roughly a 1.5-2 pounds difference PER WEEK in weight loss.

Truth is, if you’re not building muscle, there are only few things you could be getting wrong.

You’re Not Eating Enough: I don’t care how hard you train, you’re not supplying your body with the necessary nutrients to grow you’ll never build muscle.

You’re Not Getting Stronger: The main pathway by which we build muscle is known as progressive overload. Unless you’re stimulating muscle growth through gradually doing more work in the gym, you’ll never build muscle.

Not Enough Protein: If you’re in a surplus (eating enough for growth), but you’re not consuming enough protein, it’s like trying to build a house – you may have enough workers, but not enough bricks!

Inconsistency: If you’re “eating enough”, but not consistently, you’re not eating enough. If you’re getting stronger, but are skipping sessions, you’re not doing enough total work. You’ve got to be consistent!

Do you do intermittent fasting? By @smurray_32 ➖ Intermittent fasting is nothing but a time schedule, a time schedule that allows for bigger meals = increased satiation = increased adherence = longer term results, BUT! It’s not magic and definitely not the only way to structure your diet, just a possible option that may be suited to you. ➖ For my (and many others out there) lifestyle, IF works perfectly as, it allows me to get up early, bang out my workout, snack (or fast) while I tend to some more “important” work in the late morning/afternoon and THEN break my fast. Is It optimal? Happy Monday 💪🏼🌈 . Each week I said I would give you one workout that’s 5 moves, to do 2-3 times depending on your time constraints! So here’s this weeks #workoutoftheweek 🍑 . 1.Renegade rows 30 seconds for each side 2.Knee driver jump lunges 30 seconds for each side 3.Circle crunches alternating clockwise and counterclockwise 4.Alternating plank jack shoulder taps 5.Hip thrusters . Each move for 60 seconds total, go through the entire circuit and then do it again 2-3 more times! Comment below and let me know what you think! 💪🏼

A lot going on in this one⬇️for more! #theextra10 • • 🏋🏻‍♂️Targets vastus lateralis, which is the outer most quad muscle and arguably the most powerful of the 4• 🧠The vastus lateralis engages most intensely at the bottom of a squat, and when the knees are pointed out• 🔥So to maximize my vastus lateralis engagement I’m pulsing at the bottom of every rep to increase the time under tension where the vastus lateralis is at peak engagement. I’m also pointing my knees out while wearing a resistance band to push out against. This puts my vastus lateralis in an ideal position to be the primary mover and stimulates it even more since the band is trying to pull my knees in• 🚨Disclosure; as many of you already know my page is dedicated to functional training, therefore I usually stay away from machines because in general they tend to be less functional than a variety of other types of exercise. However, there is a time and place for them, whether it’s isolating and building an underdeveloped muscle, or coming back from an injury, or training through soreness. In this case my hamstrings were sore from a previous workout so I targeted and isolated my quads as best as possible with the machine hack squat, since it is a heavily quad dominant exercise• 💪Sets: 3x12 pulsing at the bottom of each rep. If done correctly your sets will be 45-60 seconds which is ideal time under tension for hypertrophy training. I prefer doing these at the end of my leg day as a finisher• 👊 @johnwlouis @melissasdfit @dougmillerpro @taylormadebands @realresultsftns

Back to RPE7 leg day. Feeling easier than last week and fuelled by all of the food eaten over the past few days. Do your knees start to buckle on the eccentric/negative contraction of a squat ? - Here’s a quick simple adjustment that will stop your knees buckling and keeping them pointing out so you can get a deeper squat, meaning more overall development of your quads, glutes and hams! - - Take off your shoes, scrunch your toes and point them out slightly, thus making you put more weight on your heel and the outside of your foot forcing your knees out and stopping them caving in. This is a great hack for anyone that suffers from flat feet also because it forces the foot to adopt an arched position!
