Hey guys! 😄 #QOTD : Tell me one thing you love about your city/town/the place you stay. . This was the first time I'd picked up a self-help book. This genre had never seemed like my cup of tea. However, 'Ikigai' being strongly related to Japanese culture intrigued me and I picked this up! 💙 . This book is well-researched and quite informative. The general focus is on finding the key to longevity and realising one's purpose in life. I had this general idea in my mind that self help books are usually dull and seldom useful, but this book proved to be far from anything I'd expected. Filled with tables, charts, quotes and anecdotes, I didn't find this to be monotonous at all. In certain sections, the authors have documented their interactions with the world's oldest supercentenarians, where they discuss about their 'secrets to longevity'. What makes this different from other self-help books is that a lot many concepts discussed in this have been derived from the Japanese culture, which kind of makes it more interesting. The authors have curated a few recommendations, based on their research. They are quite easy to implement and beneficial too. . So, was this helpful? As I said, the tips curated by the authors and the research done by them is definitely convincing, simple and could certainly give you a clear direction on how to start. Whether you implement it or not, that's totally upon you. For amateur self-help readers, I would totally recommend this. . . . #igreads #booklove #indianbookstagram #bookphoto #bookstafamindia #readinglove #readersofinstagram #bookfeed #unitedbookstagram #bookert #bookstagramindia #ikigai #selfhelp #marinedrive #mymumbai #Mumbaibookstagram #bookaddict #booksandcoffee #indiabookstagram #readerforlife #bookgram

Last year I started @readingpakistan because I couldn't find any Instagram accounts that showcased and celebrated Pakistani literature, whether English or Urdu. . Although Pakistanis have written in English for the last few decades and even as far back as the start of the last century (when India and Pakistan were one country under British colonial rule and people living in areas which are present-day Pakistan were writing in English), there is something interesting happening in Pakistani English literature at the moment. About 10 years ago there were only a few big names writing mainly literary fiction in English (such as Bapsi Sidhwa, Mohammed Hanif, Mohsin Hamid, Kamila Shamsie, @monimohsinofficial, Nadeem Aslam), now there seem to be so many new writers experimenting with genres, from science fiction to poetry to popular romances. I know I'm generalizing but it also seems that these newer writers are coming from diverse backgrounds and not just from elite literary families. In a way, it's a democratization of the literary space in Pakistan. . When I was trying to make sense of it all and trace the evolution of this literature, I didn't find much critical analysis. One of the few books I've found on the subject is Muneeza Shamsie's Hybrid Tapestries. Muneeza Shamsie is a literary critic, editor for many journals and anthologies and a member of the advisory committee of the @thedscprize for South Asian Literature, among other posts. She is also writer Kamila Shamsie's mother. . Hybrid Tapestries was published in 2017 by @oxforduniversitypresspak and I had wanted it since. I'm really glad that I've finally got my hands on it 😍 . Do you just like to read books for the fun or do you also like to know more about the trends in writing and publishing and a critical analysis of literature? Basically, will the real nerds of Instagram, please stand up? 🙋🏽‍♀️😀🙈 . . #bookstagram #readingpakistan #unitedbookstagram #bookstagrampakistan #reading #bibliophile #beautifulbooks #prettybooks #pakistanireadersinitiative #booksofinstagram #literature #booknerd #bookworm #pakistaniwriters #pakistaniliterature #muneezashamsie #hybridtapestries #mynonfiction19 #pakistan

I am currently awake at 4:45 AM because I need to work. This is unusual for me because I 1) don't like to wake up early 2) don't wake up when the alarm rings 3) am not a morning person. And I actually went to bed early for this! Again, who am I? When did I become this responsible adult? Luckily, the job is only for two hours and then I can go back home to rest, eat, and change to see some of my best friends from college. I haven't seen them in forever.. or since last fall. Which has been a year and that feels like forever to me. We are going to a pumpkin patch today which is basic and I'm all here for it. And of course, take all the pictures. Now I have to decide the best books to bring... . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . #iamreading #bookalicious #unitedbookstagram #yareader #booknook #booknookstagram #creativegrams #bookishallure #bookstorefinds #bookstorelove #localbookstore #bookstoresofinstagram #bookstoreday #supportlocal #travelgram

BOOK REVIEW 🍓🍓🍓🍓💫 : THE RIGHT SWIPE by ALISHA RAI Alright, this is the first book ive read by Alisha Rai. I can say that i liked it a lot considering i know not a thing about online dating apps and a bit sceptical in using it in the first place. First of all, there’s Our protagonist Rhiannon who is cautious as ever and closed off when it comes to opening up to another person. She is depicted as a powerful woman with a dynasty she built from the ground up. Only, she has serious trust issues which will be revealed later on and she was right to be upset about it. Our male lead Samson who is depicted as the perfect man and almost flawless. The right guy for Rhiannon because they are polar opposites. And somehow, Samson’s personality would compliment that of Rhiannon. They met through a dating app. Later on, they engaged into a somewhat business arrangement but neither one of them will be able to just keep it business. I’ll leave it at that because next comes the steamy romance. Read for yourself. . . This isnt your typical romance book. There’s also family dynamic, it discusses not just love in a romantic way but also friendship, familial, and self-love. . We are taken into the POV of both Rhiannon and Samson and both of them has their own story and issues that stops them from jumping into any serious relationship. I love going into each of their POVs and learning about their struggles and past. There was a sense of mystery with both of their backgrounds which was a great way of keeping the interest and compelling the reader to continue. . Overall, I enjoyed reading this book, fairly easy to read but packed with important messages and issues such as abuse and bullying were discussed and resolved well. I also loved the women empowerment dialogue all throughout the book. I will for sure read the next book in the series with Katrina’s story. Huge thanks to @definitelybooks for this review copy!

I am currently reading George S. Boughton's Black Gold - Black Scorpion. It recounts the story of a young Britisher who has been sent to Nigeria as an oil engineer during the Biafran War. To begin with, the narrative was quite frustrating. Though I think it is going fine now, there are instances of what I am presuming as racism in the novel and that's what I am finding problematic. . When I first read Heart of Darkness, I didn't even think of Conrad being a racist. To me, he was presenting the social scenario as it were. My reading of Achebe's essay, "An Image of Africa: Racism in Conrad's Heart of Darkness", changed everything for me and my world became a little more complex. In the introduction to The African Trilogy, Chimamanda reaffirms my understanding of Achebe's essay by writing, "[Achebe] would, years later, write a famous essay about the portrayal of Africans in Joseph Conrad's classic novel Heart of Darkness, arguing that while Conrad had written honestly about the racism of the time, he had failed to hold an authorial rejection of that world-view." In "Africa's Tarnished Name", Achebe called such writings as "poisonous writing(s)" and for someone who is trying to understand Nigeria (like me), these kind of picturization could be really poisonous. . That's why, today I want to talk about racism. I have added a few excerpts from Black Gold - Black Scorpion in the comments. I have also tagged a few wonderful bookstagrammers I have found here who make my life a little more complex everyday by challenging the notions I have gathered from my reading. Please let me know what you think about racism in literature after reading the excerpts. Where do we draw the line? What can or can't be called a racist portrayal? I would love it if you could add other people in this conversation so that we can have a discussion with as many people as we can. . . . . . #booksofinstagram #bookstagram #bookstagramindia #unitedbookstagram #readersofinstagram #bookstagramcommunity #igreads #booknerd #bookish #whatimreading #bookrecommendation #trackmypost #goodreadschallenge #mybookfeatures #bookstagramnigeria #racism #racisminliterature

"The Best We Could Do" by Thi Bui is a beautifully illustrated memoir exploring the long lasting effects of displacement for parents and their children. Thi Bui documents the story of her family's escape after the fall of South Vietnam in the 1970s and the difficulties they faced building their new lives in a country that didn't welcome them. In what author (and certified literary genius) Viet Thanh Nguyen calls "a book to break your heart and heal it" you'll find the story of a first-time mother realizing what it means to be a parent. Reflecting on her own parent's sacrifices, unnoticed and ignored gestures and the depth of unspoken love she examines the strength of family and the meaning of home and belonging. Thi Bui was born three months before the end of the Vietnam War, or American War, and came to the US as a part of the so called boat people wave of refugees. If you speak German I also really want you to listen to the new episode of the brilliant @riceandshine.podcast. Told in a storytelling format Minh Thu Tran and Vanessa Vu talk about Vietnamese boat people who now live in Germany. Three survivors Nguyễn Anh Tuấn, Trần Văn Huyền and his wife Trần Thị Lệ Hương tell their stories and they talk to the surviving relatives of Nguyễn Ngọc Châu and Đỗ Anh Lân, two former boat people who died in the arson attack in Hamburg in 1980. Please listen to this episode. These two women did some fantastic work here. #thibui #vietnam #podcast #nonfiction #unitedbookstagram #autumnisforasia #memoir #watercolorpainting #graphicnovel

Hello everyone! How has October been for you? Its finally getting a little colder here and I cant wait for sweater weather 😭 . I know I've been hella inactive lately and sporadic with my updates I've just been really sleepy and slumpy 😂 but we're good now and the slump is kinda over! . I already finished "lock every door" I'll review it later but let me tell you, the book is MESSED up. It just suddenly gets so disturbing *shivers* . My journey into thrillers has been really fun and entertaining. I cant wait to read the turn of the key now! I heard it was scary 👏🏻😳 . I'm also 70 pages shy from finishing "miss peregrines home for peculiar children" this needs a discussion honestly 🙄 I'm a bit sad to say that it doesn't have alot going for it? . #QOTD tho issss, is there a genre you finally want to try going into? Q. Can you suggest me the most thrilling read that you enjoyed reading? 🏃 #BnBReadathon Three books finished! This one I read for Prompt 1: Read any book by Jeffrey Archer. 🏃 BOOK REVIEW A Matter of Honour by Jeffrey Archer 🏃 Ooo...I read a thriller after a long time! Thank you @booksnbeyondbox for this prompt. Otherwise it would have taken me a few more months to get back to my first love of thrillers. The protagonists Adam and Alex are both after an original Rublev, a painting that contains something important. Both of them have their own agenda in retrieving it. I had quite forgotten the exhilaration of reading a thriller - often forgetting to breathe... I love Archer's character descriptions and also the chase across the countries... 🏃🏃🏃 For the full review: Link in bio OR Shaina's Musings>Book Reviews>Genre>Suspense/Thriller 🏃 You can check out the hashtag #ShainaReviews for more reviews! 🏃 #BetterReadsChallenge 292/365 🏃🏃🏃 #bookstagram #bookstagramindia #book #booksbooksbooks #bookstagrammer #unitedbookstagram #bookaesthetic #delhibookstafam #bookworm #bookdragon #booklover #bookgeek #bookpassion #bookblogger #bibliophile #bookstagramfeature #bookstagramchallenge #blog #blogging #bookreview #amatterofhonour #jeffreyarcher #suspense #thriller #fiction #panmacmillanindia

🌸 Do you like books on spirituality and philosophy? . I picked up this classic named "Siddharth" written by Nobel Prize winner Herman Hesse which is the story of a Brahmin boy named Siddharth. When I had started the story, I thought that it's the story of Gautam Buddha before he attained enlightenment, when he was Siddharth. But this is the story of Siddharth who is on his own to achieve salvation. . He first becomes a samana with his friend Govinda but he hears of the Illuminated One, the Perfect one, Gautam Buddha who has attained nirvana from the worldly affairs. After meeting him, he realises that he does not need a teacher to lead his path to Nirvana. Indeed, he needs to carve his own path where self-realization helps him to achieve it. . . While searching himself, he lands himself in the worldly affairs, becomes a merchant, starts indulging in physical pleasures and enjoys the dances of women while sipping wine. He grows weary, his skin loses its glow, he becomes impatient and slowly starts realising that this is not him, this is not his "self". . . From then on, his spirit is reinvigorated and the subsequent chapters will teach you a lot about life, about the purpose of life and how we immerse ourselves in the illusion, the maya of the world that we forget to seek ourselves and the atman, the God. . . . . . Though written by someone foreign to Indian culture, you will never feel like the same. The story, the characters and philosophy has been elaborated meticulously. . . . . #siddharth #hermanhesse #nobelprize #literature #classics #classic #unitedbookstagram #bookgram #bookphotography #bookshelves #booklover #bookclubsofinstagram #bookrecommendations #bookshelf #minireadsreview #minireads #igs #igreads #igram #iger #philosophy #spiritualawakening #spiritual #spirituality

The Children of destruction is clearly a book for lovers of magic and fantasy. It's about a girl named Alice, who has magical powers and once she realises about them her world takes a 360° turn. Magic is the base of this story. What I like about this book is the casual wit used throughout. Also, the book has too many characters which created a lot of confusion for me. I fail to understand the message of the book, tbh. The book starts fine, all thanks to Alice the other characters I didn't like much. Since the book follows a decent pace the abundance of characters is a minus, a lot could be said with a fewer characters in my opinion. This is more of a kids book than a young adult, I believe. I am really disappointed with this book though I liked a few chapters here and there but in totality, No. I'm a little tired of magic now. 2⭐ Thank you for the review copy @thebookoholics. Coffee and a classic, anyone? I’m being very self-indulgent in posting so many of my eBay teacups today, but I love these colours.💙💜💗 . Are you a reader of the classics? I had a quick look at my Goodreads for 2019, and I’ve got through quite a few (by my standards). In fact, I don’t think I’ve ever read so many classics in one year. This was going to be my year of reading Anna K, but sadly I don’t think that will happen! I think I’ve got another couple of classics in me this year, but will probably space them out in my reading going forwards, because I think I’ve given myself classics fatigue! 🙈 I just find it takes a particular level of concentration for them, and unfortunately that’s something I don’t have a lot of at the moment! . I was tagged ages ago by @jane.read.next and @rebecca__reads to list #tenthingsthatmakemehappy I’m omitting the obvious (family, friends, books📚, tea ☕️ ), so here’s my list in no particular order: . 💜old family photos 💜plays and musicals at the theatre 💜Arts/literary festivals 💜Belonging to a choir 💜Listening to music/attending concerts 💜Long, windswept walks Learning new things 💜Travel - I have insatiable wanderlust! 💜Making a difference, in a quiet way 💜Banter: being able to laugh at myself, and with kindred spirits! . 💕 #thereader by #bernardschlink translated by #carolbrownjaneway --------------------------------- I've watched the movie tons of times and it happens to be one of my all time fav! And then the inevitable happened... I came across this gorgeous book!💕 ‼️ I loved it, obviously. I am very familiar with the characters and #hannaschmitz is a character that I admire a lot.. It was nice to meet them again in a different spectrum of light... it was entirely consuming and I had much more insight into the nature of Hannah and Michael and the relationship they shared. Its a small book but I took my time to glide through the pages. However, I felt the narration lacked some continuity and depth... it could be coz of the translation, I am not sure, guess will never know! ‼️ The story will stay close to my heart along with Hanna and Michael❤️ -------------------------------- #Amreading #booklove #bookblog #instabook #instadaily #bibliophile #bookstagramfeature #readersofinstagram #bookish #bookaholic #bookstagrammer #chennaiblogger #bookstagramindia #igreads #bookobsessed #unitedbookstagram #bookreview

#readingowlreviews . I read ‘The Last Watchman of Old Cairo’ almost a month back but I never posted a review. Well, life happens. So, here is a small post to change that. I started reading the book with a lot of expectations. I thought it would be a ‘Da Vinci Code’ like mystery with a religious twist. It was not. The blurb is misleading. Although the center piece is a religious artifact..it is mostly about family and finding oneself. I really liked reading this one. The story takes you to three different timelines/generations to try and uncover the Ezra Scroll - a Jewish artifact which is now more of a legend than the truth. Meanwhile, Joseph/Yusuf tries to find out what his purpose in life his. Born of a Jewish mother and a Muslim father..his life always had a duality to it. It is only after his father’s death that he really understands who his father was. This was a page turner for me and I finished it in a weekend. The story draws you in, into Joseph’s life and struggle, and you root for him to grow up and see the truth. If you like reading books with different cultures, it is perfect. There were so many Jewish customs I got to know in here. It also gives you a glimpse of Old and New Cairo And takes you through its various streets and landmarks. I also got to know about some historical events like Yom Kippur war. 3.5 🌟 for this. #thereadingowl_ #thelastwatchmanofoldcairo #michaeldavidlukas #bookreview #bookrecommendation #historicalfiction #booksandtea #booksonmiddleeast #booklove #bookstagram #bookstagramindia #unitedbookstagram #bookstagramfeature #bookstagramindiafeature #bookstagrammer #indianbookstagrammer #delhiblogger #bookphotography #booknerdigans #bookishmerch #bookishcandles #booksandcandles #booksleeve #furbooksleeve #metalbookmark

Hey what's up bookish people? How have you been? I was MIA once again. TBH I was lacking motivation for clicking pictures, writing reviews and even reading. But now I am trying to get back on track and I'll try to post regularly now. I want to thank all of you for sticking with me. Much love to you guys ❤️❤️ . . QOTD :- What are you reading these days and how that book is treating you? . . These are the review copies which are left to get reviewed. . I've always wanted to talk about review copies on this platform. I read, click pictures, write reviews and post reviews on multiple platforms. This seems easy right? But it's not. For me personally review copies is a task which has to be done properly and ethically. There was a moment when I was about to shut my bookstagram account just because I had a stack of review copies pending. I've crossed the dates on which the reviews had to be posted. I was quite disappointed by myself, but after a break of couple of days I stood up and reviewed all the books in a span of 15-20 days I guess. I don't know if it happens with you guys or not but if some books are pending to be reviewed it will keep circling in my mind. There is always a little pressure of it. . 1. Reading a book. 2. Writing such a review which is able to do full justice to the book. 3. Clicking the picture coz presentation matters. . Each and every step has its own complications. You people can understand the efforts. But I am doing what I love. And I'll keep doing it doesn't matter how much efforts it will gonna take. . One more thing which I wanna ask you guys, How do y'all manage review copies so that they don't get piled up? . . . . #bookstagram #bookstagramfeature #bookstagramming #BookBlog #reviewcopies #bookstagrammer #bookphotography #bookaddict #bibliophile #igbooks #unitedbookstagram #bookfeaturepage #bookstagramfeature #bookstagramindia #indianbookstagrammer #bookstobeatalgorithm #thealgobreakerfam

#booklingasks : Have you read any African Literature? If so, please do recommend me some! I am half way through this book that I started reading a week ago and I am loving it! Although I have read Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie's We Should All Be Feminists , this is my first 'proper fiction' from the author. I am a huge fan of her Ted videos - there was this one where she spoke about the 'Dangers of a Single Story'. I remember listening to it on the way to college years ago and it had a huge impact over me as a college kid back then. So I did have huge expectations from her when I started reading Americanah - & I must say, she has an amazing eye for details! I love how she has incorporated the cultural shock, the minute stuff that would irk the immigrants but is trivial to the others in a rather subtle way in the book. It does change the way I look at the world! Hoping to binge read this tonight. A detailed review will be up soon. What's also unearthed is a story, inside their story, of Sam DuChamp, an Indian-American, just like them, living in America. A novelist, inking a story, their story, of their travels, their experiences, that's equivocated in the realms of time, for what's real and what's not, can no longer be distinguished. . . This is by far the most hardest reads to get through... cause it’s legit actual history!! This is the exact story of the mass hysteria of Salem 1692!! Its interesting how it compares to other books that are inspired by these trial as well as who are actual descendants of these accused(stars, legendary people, and even Presidents)!! I recommend reading if you read the crucible and wanted to know that actual story of the 1950s play which showed the Communists trails that happened in those times glazed over the Salem witch trails✨ #becauseofreading #bibliophile #bookaddict #bookclub #bookcommunity #bookfeature #bookgram #bookishfeature #booklover #booknerd #booksbooksbooks #bookstagramfeature #bookstagrammer #bookworm #goodreads #epicreads #littlebookworm #readersofinstagram #prettybooks #readingismagic #unitedbookstagram

"Ofcourse it's happening inside your head Harry but why on Earth does that mean it is not real?" Harry Potter owns a significant part of my life, this series is so special to me. JK Rowling created a world unlike anyother. I have such a close connection with each and every character *clearsthroat*except Umbridge *cough*. This series taught me so much, changed me from an ordinary girl to the one waiting for her Hogwarts letter to arrive. I'm so happy that this series is a part of my life, and will continue to be for a long long time. #qotd what is your favourite Hp book? #aotd I love them all but Goblet of Fire and Deathly Hallows are my ultimate babies😅 - - -

“I would hurl words into this darkness and wait for an echo, and if an echo sounded, no matter how faintly, I would send other words to tell, to march, to fight, to create a sense of the hunger for life that gnaws in us all, to keep alive in our hearts a sense of the inexpressibly human.” Richard Wright . . . . ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Black and white. Inferior vs. superior. You can read about this story, old as time, in this book. We follow Richard from the age of 5, when he burns the house down, to when he’s a grown man... his adventure, his life. I’d say, a very difficult life; full of confusion, pain, and questions... One of the amazing books I had the chance to read in 2019. I strongly recommend it to everyone. 🤓❤️📚 #blackboy #americanhunger #richardwright #autobiography #blackliterature #bookstagramfeature #booklife #bookstagrammer #reader #ILoveBooks #bibliophile #bookgram #bookcommunity #bookworm #bookdragon #booknerd #bookaddict #bookaholic #bookphotography #instabooks #unitedbookstagram #booksofinstagram #ilovetoread #bookish #literature #igreads #readingtime #booksbooksbooks #alwaysreading #goodreads

WHO IS BHARAT MATA? EDITED BY SHRI PURUSHOTTAM AGRAWAL . Since almost every person you come across is blaming our first PM Shri Jawaharlal Nehru for every problem we are facing,it becomes all the more important to read and understand the man. This book is a collection of writings by and on(by prominent people from across the globe) Shri Jawaharlal Nehru. Reading this book will give an insight into the first PM,his thoughts about India, his knowledge of the ancient past, his knowledge of history, his love for reading and writing, his contribution to freedom struggle (which is being often maligned by the current establishment),his love for the culture and tradition of India, his understanding of world affairs, his policies, vision for India and many other facets of this amazing man who was the true architect of India. For all those who couldn't read all his works, this book comes as a rescue. One can read passages from his many literary creations like An Autobiography, Glimpses of world history,Discovery of India, his many speeches and what not. For more reluctant people, who out of ignorance or under the influence of current establishment has taken to demeaning and abusing Nehruji, the introduction to this books serves a very great purpose. The introduction will make you get rid of many misconceptions about the man that are being floated very carelessly and with ease in social circuits and media. Find some time to read the book, even if the man concerned does not encourages you to read the book, the title will definitely do. It has become a litmus test of nationalism to chant 'Bharat Mata ki Jai'. Reading this book will let readers know what 'Bharat Mata' is? Book Review - 16💜 Dragon Pearl (Yoonhalee ). Genre: Science Fiction ⭐ - 3/5 🔻Review🔻 _________________________________________ Indeed, this turned out poorly anticipated. Mythical serpent Pearl was my most foreseen Rick Riordan Presents book since it's a space drama with Korean folklore components. Be that as it may, I didn't appreciate this as much as I needed to. I was reluctant to adjust my rating to 3 stars since I believe I didn't exactly like it at that level, however 2 stars was excessively low of a rating for it. The principle issue I had with this book is that it's dull. It's not energizing or awesome, and I feel generally nonpartisan towards it. It's quite forgettable, and I don't generally think I took in a great deal about Korean folklore as I suspected I would. I'm likely too used to Even consider ricking Riordan's books and it's unreasonable to make correlations yet no matter. I likewise wished this book would be somewhat entertaining however it wasn't *sigh* I tuned in to the book recording and I'm certain I would have dnfed this if not for the storyteller. It wasn't the best book recording using any and all means yet tuning in to it was calming as it were. I can't utter a word about the characters since I don't have any acquaintance with them all around ok, yet Min was a fascinating primary character. I like that she burns through the greater part of this book as a real kid as I don't might suspect I've at any point perused something like it. It was peculiar toward the starting when the storyteller brought down her voice for Min however I developed to like it a considerable amount. _________________________________________ The picture credit goes to @elinorsbooks Add credits if you repost it _________________________________________ #allthebooksoct19 #yoonhalee #dragonpearl   #dragonpearlrrp #rickriordanpresents #rickriordanbooks #bibliophile #bookwormlife #featuredbooklovers #bookwormsfeature #happiness #inspire #becauseofreading #bookclub #bookaddict #bookcommunity #bookfeature #bookishfeature #bookgram #bookishlove #booklover #booknerd #booksbooksbooks #bookstagramfeature #bookworm #booksofig #readersofinstagram #unitedbookstagram #read

#QOTD : What are your weekend reading plans? Current read? 📜 Book : The Ramayana Secret Author : Anurag Chandra Publisher : Om Books Genre : Mythological Fiction 📜 Stop reading whatever you are reading and pick this book which retells the epic you've known until now. Each person in this country grows up by listening, reading or watching "Ramayana" - one of the two major Sanskrit epics of ancient India also the largest ancient epic in world literature. This book gives you a new perspective towards the way you've discerned the epic. After reading this book I was quite overwhelmed that I took a plenty of time to perceive what I've read. The story connects 1. Outer Earth and 2. Inner Earth - "Agartha" also known by many as Paatala. 📜 Was Rama really the seventh avatar of Vishnu as we all believe or was he something else? Why do you think the Vanaras as mentioned in the Ramayana had supernatural abilities? Was Sita the reason of war between Rama and Ravana or it also has another explanation? 📜 Review : Mythology is my most favourite genre and my views on this book are obviously compared to all the books I've read before. This book surpasses them all in a way the story is told. 📜 The cover is splendid and the title is exemplary. The book is really a surprise as it's definitely more engrossing than it appears. Narration is strong and language is quite eloquent. I loved the flowchart like family tree of both Rama and Ravana presented in the beginning of the book. The concept of inner and outer world is explained lucidly like never before. After some googling I came to know that inner earth - Agartha also has many references in French occultism and Tibetan Buddhism. 📜 I've also found Rama's conversations with other characters as more wiser and spiritual than the original epic. Also in this story I very much admire the portrayal of other underrated characters of the original epic as a crucial ones and vice versa. Reader will definitely love every characters of Ramayana after reading this book. Author has done solid work to cover the whole story perfectly in around 200 pages. 📜 It's a book you don't want to miss reading. Rating : 4.8/5

My next read. @kelrimmerwrites I got this pretty at the @barnesandnoble sale recently. ... QOTD: Do you like historical fiction? What's your favorite era? ... “Fans of The Nightingale and Lilac Girls will adore The Things We Cannot Say.” —Pam Jenoff, New York Times bestselling author ... In 1942, Europe remains in the relentless grip of war. Just beyond the tents of the Russian refugee camp she calls home, a young woman speaks her wedding vows. It’s a decision that will alter her destiny…and it’s a lie that will remain buried until the next century. ... Since she was nine years old, Alina Dziak knew she would marry her best friend, Tomasz. Now fifteen and engaged, Alina is unconcerned by reports of Nazi soldiers at the Polish border, believing her neighbors that they pose no real threat, and dreams instead of the day Tomasz returns from college in Warsaw so they can be married. But little by little, injustice by brutal injustice, the Nazi occupation takes hold, and Alina’s tiny rural village, its families, are divided by fear and hate. ... Then, as the fabric of their lives is slowly picked apart, Tomasz disappears. Where Alina used to measure time between visits from her beloved, now she measures the spaces between hope and despair, waiting for word from Tomasz and avoiding the attentions of the soldiers who patrol her parents’ farm. But for now, even deafening silence is preferable to grief. ... Slipping between Nazi-occupied Poland and the frenetic pace of modern life, Kelly Rimmer creates an emotional and finely wrought narrative. The Things We Cannot Say is an unshakable reminder of the devastation when truth is silenced…and how it can take a lifetime to find our voice before we learn to trust it. . . . . . #amreading #womensfiction #readersofinstagram #writersofinstagram #katerockbooktours #bookwineandmetime #historicalfiction #kellyrimmer #bookstafam #BookCommunity #writerscommunity #booksofig #booklove #unitedbookstagram #bookshark #currentread #katerocklitchick

He's a Dao born and bred — a son of the latest nation to occupy the Nameless City. Cynical, street-smart Rat is a native, and at first she hates Kai for everything he stands for. #qotd Did you feel money minded people are more unhappy then rest of the people..? . Rating 4 🌟🌟🌟🌟 . Review: This book is about old Scrooge who is arrogant, money minded, angry, full of himself , lonely, and prejudice about poor people and there living conditions. But a night changes it perspective of life when 3 ghost (inner soul) come to talk to him and show him the various stages of life and give him reality check and he feel bad for himself and don't want to meet that end he did in dreams. He redeem himself and things changes he went to nephew house for Christmas too, and try to change himself for saving himself dying a lonely life with no one even to bury him. This book come up with gothic element of ghost and death but author use it as a humour to tell the reader to change the role of life or the fate which Scrooge might have faced would be us in his place. Happy Weekend Guys 📙 Let me know a book or a series this year, that had been your biggest disappointment 📙 For me, it will be ofcourse Game of Thrones. Though the show had started dipping from the last 2 season onwards, the hype that kept surrounding it for 2 years for the last season kept us on our toes. What we were served were plot points that hardly made sense ranging from Jon's lineage making no meaning, Night King's death, Cersei's death and many more. 📙 So this picture is dedicated to the biggest douchebag who just gave away his most loyal direwolf just because he did not want it 📙 Thank you @wizplex for this amazing @originalfunko #tfp_caribou #qfp_iamironman #originalfunko #funko #funkopop #vinyl #vinylpop #funkophotoaday #funkofan #funkomania #funkos #funkophotography #funkofanatic #funkoaddict #topfunkophotos #qualityfunkophotography #GameOfThrones #bookstagram #UnitedBookstagram

Book Review: LEAVING TIME by Jodi Picoult ( 🌟🌟🌟🌟) . . Blurb Jenna Metcalf is a young 13-year-old girl living with her grandmother after her mother, Alice mysteriously disappears 10 years ago. She regularly searches for her mother on the internet and tries to pick up clues from her research journal that documents her study about elephants. A psychic who specializes in finding missing people and a detective who worked on the initial missing case also joins in her quests to find Alice. Together these unlikely characters set out to discover the truth that’ll change their lives forever. . . Review When you pick up a Jodi Picoult book you can bet on learning a thing or two about a new topic. In this book, it’s mostly about elephants! 🐘🐘 Don’t get me wrong here, but it was very informative to read in-depth about elephants, their grief, bonding and the powerful similarity with humans. My only complaint though is that it slightly reduced the pace of the books, especially in the initial part. So each chapter is told from the point of view of 4 different characters and it flips between the past and present. Overall, a well researched, thought-provoking novel about love, loss, grief and a radiant exploration of the mother-daughter bonding.👩‍👧♥️ Also, the twist at the end! Ohh my, I did not see that one coming. But it made sense to a lot of open questions that I had while reading. So if you're an animal lover on the lookout of a page-turning thriller, be sure to grab this one. Overall rating 🌟🌟🌟🌟 . . . #qotd Have you read any Jodi Picoult books? I knew before I picked up this book that it was going to involve Barack. But what I didn't know was that it has been written in such a relatable form that a little flashback of your life plays in your head throughout. I have just finished the first part and I am impressed. This is, I guess, my first autobiographical pick and I am glad it is going good so far. That Time I Loved You - Carrianne Leung . In the Scarborough suburbs of the 1970s, many things happen behind closed doors - suicide, abuse, racism, alcoholism, and kleptomania. The stories are told by different linked narrators but always return to June, an adolescent Chinese-Canadian growing up in the neighbourhood. . This was a bittersweet novel. The topics are difficult but the book is easy to read. Good and bad are balanced and it's never morbid, but the seriousness is never glazed over. I really felt for all the characters. Each story was thought-provoking and sad. It's definitely a read that's stuck with me.

During the spooky season we normally talk about ghosts and witches and all things that go bump in the night, but what about crazy ex-girlfriends? What would be more terrifying than your ex getting a job where you work, and then trying to destroy your life from the inside? Almost nothing is scarier than that! The Perfect Girlfriend is not the best thriller on the market, but it's one hell of a fun ride. If you like your main characters to be unlikable and a bit on the unstable side than this is a perfect read for you this season!

Book Review: Eleven Hours by Paulia Simons⁣ .⁣ “One pregnant woman. One deranged man. Eleven hours of hell.”⁣ .⁣ Abducted from a shopping mall in Dallas, Didi Wood, in her ninth month of pregnancy, is taken on the most dangerous, horrifying ride of her life, as a madman drives her across Texas. While her husband and the FBI try furiously to track them down, they can only hope to find Didi -- and her unborn child -- alive.⁣ .⁣ This is the first book I have ever read by this author and won’t be my last. The writing was so descriptive and vivid. I can still remember most of it from when I read it years ago. It is a great physiological thriller with mystery and suspense that kept you captivated and wanting to continue turning the pages. There was a lot of tension that kept me on the edge of my seat as I just wanted to find out what ends up happening.⁣ .⁣ The POV’s switch from Didi and her husband showing each of the sides and what they were dealing with. You could to feel all of their emotions with them and also experience the horrifying scenario yourself, as if it was happening to you which gave me the chills. ⁣ .⁣ The storyline to be action-packed and brought a quick and fast punch along with it. By the end of the novel I had learnt lessons and found it to be very eye opening to the reality of what some people are capable off and to always be careful.⁣ .⁣ Highly recommend this quick read and will definitely be a re-read of mine.⁣ .⁣ Rating = 4/5⁣ .⁣ Bonnie x

{Book Share | Review} Il Sung Na: A Book Of Sleep 📖 Good night, dear friends. Bedtime is upon us and that always means Story Time as well at our house, because both girls would never ever go to bed without reading one last bedtime story first--or two or three... ° Anyways, A Book Of Sleep is a favorite at our house. It was one of the first books I read to my oldest (about 5 years ago). It gets still picked up by her or her little sister and I can absolutely see why: the story is simple yet very endearing, and the illustrations are just gorgeous. And this one finally got me out of my string of reads all below 4 stars 🙌 so happy we picked this one up @wherethereadergrows on your visit here last year 😘 . . Ah yes, FINALLY picking up a book from my long neglected TBR pile. I'm glad I decided to start with this one because its been looking at me from my shelves for years. HORRORSTÖR is my fourth outing with Grady Hendrix and I haven't been disappointed yet. I absolutely love how this book looks. The order form in the front, the map of the store, the store information, slogan, and mission, products and descriptions - I so appreciate all of these extra details! It was so quick, had the dark humor I was hoping for, and it was plenty creepy and scary! One you wont forget when you head to IKEA next. .. #jessicamapreviews2019 - 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟/5! . . In the dead of the night, they’ll patrol the empty showroom floor, investigate strange sights and sounds, and encounter horrors that defy the imagination. .. [REVIEW] Oh, how I love stories told from a single POV. Having just one POV means I get to experience all the suspense without being yanked from a scene to read another character's point of view, which can cause things to be a little confusing or repetitive. Although it took me a while to really get into this book, I enjoyed reading 'Never Have I Ever.' I especially liked the protagonist, Amy, and the antagonist, Roux. Their characters seemed to complement each other very well! • Amy Whey is a simple character. She's a woman who's blessed with a loving family, close friends, and a job that she loves. But Amy has a dark past that even her husband doesn't know about. Fortunately, this secret was revealed within the first 5 chapters - which caught my interest even more! I tend to dislike books that try to hold out on revealing a secret crucial to understanding the plot just for added suspense, or worse, to drag the story out. • On the other hand, Angelina Roux is a mysterious, magnetic, and sultry woman. Soon after moving in the neighborhood, Roux claims that she knows Amy's secret, and demands a large sum of money. If Amy failed to deliver, Roux would let her secret slip. However, Roux has secrets of her own. Just when I thought I had her figured out, the author threw in a big twist I never saw coming. But when I think back, all the clues were there, subtly placed in a way that doesn't arouse suspicion. • I understand that 'Never Have I Ever' is Jackson's first time writing in this genre - and I have to say, this book is impressive! I'll definitely check out other books from this author. . . . . . . . . . . #fallintomybacklist #fallreading #avidreader #octoberreads #bookblogging #bookphotography #bookpicture #bookaddict #readinglist #readingaddict #becauseofreading #readstagram #bookaddiction #bookster #allthebooks #booknookstagram #readersofinsta #greatreads #bookstagramer #bookgasm #booknerd #booknerdigan #booksbooksandmorebooks #bookasthetics #bookishlife #fenbookreview #neverhaveiever #unitedbookstagram

“Once you have read a book you care about, some part of it is always with you.” – Louis L’Amour . . Qotd: Have you ever read a book that stuck with you for life? Which one? . Aotd: Mines would have to be The Minister’s Black Veil by Nathaniel Hawthorne. I remember reading it when I was younger and was blown away by the powerful message, and it just stuck with me. If you haven’t read it, I do recommend it. It is an amazing short story. . . #cordialmentechrisakie #yareads #harpercollinsbrasil #embaixadoraharlequin #maureenjohnson

If there’s one takeaway from NOS4A2, it’s that if you happen to hear Christmas music drifting out from a Rolls-Royce…RUN, RUN FOR YOUR LIFE. 😱😱😱 I swear, I’ll never look at a luxury car the same way again. Or a Christmas tree. Or ornaments. Or anything connected to Christmas because YIKES EVERYTHING IS SCARY. . . So, naturally, I loved this book. 🙌🏼 . . Taking something beloved to many and turning it into an evil entity is the actual best, and Joe Hill smoked it. For a beast of a novel, clocking in at nearly 700 pages, I hardly noticed the length. Tension oozed out of the nooks and crannies of the text, and I loved Hill’s trademark exposition when it came to character building. No matter how large their role in the plot, each character received some sort of descriptive treatment. Not a cardboard cut out to be seen. . . The Brat a.k.a. Vic was addictive to watch, a protagonist with depth, grit, and a major case of bad luck, she was an unstoppable force and therefore amazing. Oh how I cheered for her, feared for her, wept for her. A combination of horrifying and heartwarming, I flew through the pages with such velocity, they kind of blurred together. . . The epic scope of the timeline, following Vic from a child, to a young woman, and then as a young mother, made NOS4A2 a saga of horror that only Joe Hill could write. Dark and gruesome, featuring the worst sorts of things that people can do to each other, but also a heroine who’s easy to rally behind, this book is absolutely perfect to read during spooky month. Or whenever, really.🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 . . Cover photograph ©️ Pari Dukovic/AMC . . “Why does it take a life ending to learn how to cherish each day?” - This is the story about a boy and a girl. Rune and Poppy. About a friendship and a bond so strong that can last for a lifetime. Rune’s heart was broken when two years ago, while he took a trip to his native Norway, Poppy cut him off, now he is back to discover the truth only to find out that the greatest heartache is yet to come. A thousand boy kisses is an epic love story; a very emotional ride that made me feel so much, it was beautifully written, it was intense, it made me feel sad, it made me smile, it made me feel hopeful, it’s a story that will stay with me for a long time. - “We all have people who carry us through the worst of times, the saddest of times, the times that seem impossible to break free from.” - “We had this love long enough to teach us a lesson. To show us how capable of love we truly are.” - “Live hard. Love harder. Chase dreams, seek adventures ... capture moments. Live beautifuly.” - #fridaybookreview #athousandboykisses #tilliecole #booksandcoffeeplease

Let me be clear: I did not care for the first book by this duo. The Wife Between Us kept me interested for about the first third then I quickly lost interest and struggled to finish. ⁣ ⁣ That being said, I flew through An Anonymous Girl! This thriller follows a young girl who stumbles into a research study based on morality and veracity looking for a little spending money. What she gets instead will have you turning pages well into the night anxious to figure out just what is going on. ⁣ ⁣ As far as thrillers go, I’m much more into the psychological thrills over the jumpy murder-y ones. An Anonymous Girl definitely fell into the psychological thriller category and I highly recommend it to anyone else who enjoys this genre! ⁣ ⁣ #bookreviewer #recommendedread #booksofinstagram #bookstagram #goodreads #mustreads #readersofig #booklover #unitedbookstagram #ananonymousgirl

QOTD What's your favorite horror story? •°•° 3 emojis to capture the stack: 🧟‍♂️🧛‍♂️😨 •°•° I am a total sucker for both horror and reinterpretations of stories I already knew. Obviously these are two books I just had to own. I haven't read Anno Dracula yet, but I am a huge fan of The Dark Descent of Elizabeth Frankenstein. I was tagged by the lovely @bradeighgodfrey to share my #metamorphicreads. These are books that shaped or changed my views, seeped into my soul, tugged at my heartstrings and caused me to pause and reflect on the world long after the last page was turned. I’ve only included the books I had on hand. . . Each of these books have challenged my views on things like how society operates, how truth is often the first casualty of war, the relationships and bonds between mothers and daughters and fathers and sons, the world and my place in it, modern workplaces and the effect they have on us and the little invisible lines we all operate within society. The one that challenged me the most is probably Sea Prayer. . . Interestingly, as I discovered a few weeks back during #bannedbooksweek, most of these books were banned or challenged at some point in time. I guess big ideas are frightening to some. What are some books that changed you in some way? Drop them below, or better yet, show me your own stack. I’ve tagged a few friends who may like to take part 🌈 . . . . . #bookstagram #Bookstagrammersunite #bookblogging #ireadeverywhere #unitedbookstagram #whattoreadnext #booksbooksandmorebooks #bookjunkie #bookwormlife #readergram #fallreading #betterwithbooks #whatshereads #notjustaprettybook #bookishladiesclub #bookblogging #lovetoread #seaprayer #athousandsplendidsuns #khalidhosseini #margaretatwood #thehandmaidstale #thebookthief #markuszusak #thelittleprince #lookingforalibrandi #bookcommunity #ausbookstagram

Book Review: Summer Days & Summer Nights, edited by Stephanie Perkins. . I finished this book of ya romance short stories today and I really enjoyed it. Okay, tbh, I didn’t enjoy all the stories as the central theme of all these stories is love and I DON’T like reading pure romance unless there’s a king , a war, some immortal creatures or in short if it doesn’t have a very solid story line. I even skipped one whole story because I couldn’t connect to it after four pages . The ones that I liked are a mix of fantasy and romance written by the best of authors. Here are the ones that I enjoyed:. . Head, Scales, Tongue, Tail by Leigh Bardugo. . Last Stand at the Cinegore by Libba Bray . . Inertia by Veronica Roth (This is my most favourite of them all. This story got to me). . Brand New Attraction by Cassandra Claire. . The Map of Tiny Perfect Things by Lev Grossman. . Question: Have you read to the winter version of this series called ‘My True Love Gave to Me’? I’ve been eyeing it for a long time now. I love Stephanie Perkins and her Anna, Lola and Isla series are the books I enjoyed the most when it came to the romance genre. . Anyways, hope you’re all having a great weekend . . #bookstagram #mybookfeatures #bookishfeatures #bookshelf #bookphotography #booktography #bookshelf #bookstagramista #unitedbookstagram #bookstagramfeatures #bibliophile #instabooks #bookworld #bookworm #booknerd #bookreview #booklove #bookish #bookaddict #bookaholic #booklover #books #bookshelves #reading
