On a short but epic adventure @cecphotos and I took on the dunes @deathvalleynps during a fierce sandstorm. The upside = no footprints. The downside = I’m still finding sand in places it shouldn’t be.

Real Life Detroit. ))••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••> I was born in Detroit, but don’t remember because I was a baby. I always hear how really terrific it once was. Parts are much better, mostly downtown I will give it that. If you really want to take in the real flavor of this city, take a trip from the so comfy confines of midtown or downtown areas. Great News today! This cub of the year, nicknamed Pepper and it’s mother Felicia also known as Grizzly 863 have been separated since June 18th. The news that has been brought out by @jackbaylesphotography that as if this morning they have reunited. We all have been watching and had our ears to the ground as this little guy has been going at it on his own. A Touron in the Smokies harassing a black bear sow and her coy triplets.🐻🐻🐻 I’m not sure what he thought he was doing but he is lucky she JUST bluff charged him.👀🙈 The rule in all the National Parks is to keep 100 yards or more from the bears.(50 yards in the Smokies) If that bear had attacked the man, it probably would have had to be euthanized, and the babies probably sent off to a zoo or something.☹️ Thank you to everyone who sent me this video, it was on abc news. #TouronsOfTheSmokyMountains #TouronsOfTheSmokies #TouronOfTheMonthAward 🏆 #GoesToThisGuy 🤪 #DontBeATouron #BeBearAware #KnowTheRulesInTheParks ~ The best part of this video is the guy in the background calling the touron a DUMBASS!🤣 ~ 🎥: Paige Marple ~ Updated story link in bio~ • • • #Yellowstone #YellowstoneNationalPark #TouronsOfYellowstone #GlacierNationalPark #Tetons #Yosemite #Redwoods #ArchesNationalPark #GrandCanyon #BryceCanyon #YosemiteNationalPark #CascadeNationalPark #AcadiaNationalPark #ZionNationalPark #Denali #RoadTrippin #OlympicNationalPark #JoshuaTree #Sequoia #USInterior #MountRainierNationalPark #RockyMountains #SmokyMountains

Glacier peak blazing through the fiery sunset this Sunday! We spent almost a day on top of sahale camp waiting for the sunset and had to hike down in dark since we did not have the permits to camp. Regardless, it was a wonderful experience. The clouds gave way just before the sun was setting unveiling Glacier peak beyond as seen in the picture. The horizon was already on fire and it made a mindblowing view altogether. #valartravelis #optoutside #pnwhiking #sunset_universe #glacierpeak . . . . . . . . . . . #pnwonderland  #cascadiaexplored #UpperLeftUSA  #pnw  #livewashington #usinterior  #mypubliclands  #nationalparkgeek  #adventureculture  #goatworthy  #natgeotravel #yourshotphotographer  #wildernessculture   #landscapephotography  #hikewashington   #artofvisuals #nakedplanet  #lifeofadventure  #ourplanetdaily #nikond5300 #ig_color  #sunset @ig_color @pnwonderland @cascadiaexplored @theunitedcrates

The day of my birthday it was raining so we stayed in, watched a movie and ate dinner at a good Indian restaurant. This was the hike I wanted to do on my birthday so we postponed it a few days. The views and weather were better than the day I originally hoped for; the second picture we were higher than the clouds and the kids thought that was pretty cool. Two favorite things on my birthday: family and the great outdoors, of course🤗. . . . . . . #pnwonderland #washingtonexplored #wildernessculture #WA #washington #PNW #wanderwashington #livewashington #pnwisbeautiful #upperleftUSA #pnwescapes #washingtontrails #trailchat #findyourpark #goneoutdoors #woodlandville #findyouradventure #amongthewild #usinterior #allaboutadventures #exploremore #wildernessnation #nationalparkgeek #usparksandmonuments #rei #parksproject #campingcollective

The plant you see in the foreground is a yucca. There are 49 species of yucca that can be found in the southwestern parts of the United States, in Mexico and in Central and South America. Yuccas grow in hot, arid conditions on dry, sandy, well-drained soil in areas that provide enough sun. It can be found in deserts, prairies, grasslands, light woodlands, coastal areas and mountains. There are many beneficial uses of the yucca plant. It is a source of food, medicine and has ornamental purposes. Another interesting fact is that the plant is part of the asparagus family. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ @nikonusa Nikon D5500 @tamronusa f/3.5-6.3 18-400mm lens ISO 400 f/16 1/180 secs ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ #whitesanddunes #yuccaplant #purenm #landofenchantment #gramofenchantment #beautiful_newmexico #newmexicolove #divine_deserts #travelnewmexico #igsouthwest #americansouthwest #westbysouthwest #goparks #mypubliclands #findyourpark #optoutside #usinterior #npfans #nationalparkservice #nationalparkgeek #nationalparkobsessed #nationalparkspartnership #national_park_photography #parkroamers #parksproject #YourShotPhotographer #wpna1938 #withmytamron #nikonnofilter #splendid_earth

Have you been here? When we began the day, we had never even heard of this place. But on one of our stops along the trail, a fellow hiker just happened to ask if we had plans to make it to this basin. After a few others throughout the day confirmed it was a must see, this extra hike moved right to the top of our list. We set up camp, donned our lightweight packs, then set off for the extra ~7 mile round trip trek it would take to get here. On the spur trail leading to this spot we ran into some new friends we met earlier in the day, and were bummed to hear that the trail was so grown up and brushy that the views were pretty obstructed. I felt the need to carry on anyway, and before long a couple large rocks appeared just off the trail, above the foliage. I scrambled to the top and was treated to one of the most mind blowing scenes I’ve ever encountered: waterfalls in every direction, tumbling from the towering cliff sides, loud enough to drown out the quickly growing swarm of mosquitos around me. My father-in-law snapped this photo of me taking it all in. We took a few moments to marvel at the place, and the fact that we were getting to enjoy it mere hours after learning about it. Leaving unplanned time on mountain adventures pays off in many ways. We really enjoyed this one 😊

Today a grizzly bear cub reunited with its mother after being alone for four weeks. The two were separated in June for unknown reasons, but the cub survived by eating grass and rodents. They were seen several times in close proximity to each other over the weeks, but the mother didn’t look like she was actively searching. It was possible for the cub to make it to adulthood without its mother, though unlikely with a harsh winter ahead. Two grizzly cubs north of Yellowstone were orphaned as cubs and survived to adulthood, but they at least had each other to help their odds. Despite demands by some for the forest service to intervene, nature was left alone and now the two are back together. It’s not the first time a bear cub has been “lost and found” but possibly the longest separation. It’s also possible for the mother to have new cubs next spring if she was mated, which would create a mixed age family. This bear lives outside the National parks and quite a distance from me, so I have not photographed them. The photo is of the Obsidian Creek female and cub.

“The President is merely the most important among a large number of public servants. He should be supported or opposed exactly to the degree which is warranted by his good conduct or bad conduct, his efficiency or inefficiency in rendering loyal, able, and disinterested service to the nation as a whole. Therefore it is absolutely necessary that there should be full liberty to tell the truth about his acts, and this means that it is exactly as necessary to blame him when he does wrong as to praise him when he does right. Any other attitude in an American citizen is both base and servile. To announce that there must be no criticism of the President, or that we are to stand by the President, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public. Nothing but the truth should be spoken about him or any one else. But it is even more important to tell the truth, pleasant or unpleasant, about him than about any one else.” : : #mountrushmore #rushmore #mountrushmorenationalmemorial #southdakota #blackhills #teddyroosevelt #theodoreroosevelt #washington #lincoln #jefferson #americanhistory #FindYourPark #GoParks #usinterior #experienceyouramerica #americasbestidea #protectpubliclands #seekmorewilderness #protectingparks #natparkexplorer #optoutside #thenationalparkspass #monumentsforall #sharetheexperience #nationalpark #nationalparkgeek #ibrakeforbrownsigns #nationalparkobsessed : : Sing it, Teddy.

I’ve been fortunate to spend the better part of this past month traveling the Rocky Mountains, observing their evolution along a northerly sojourn, and Glacier National Park stood out as the unrivaled jewel of the range. It’s here that the forces of uplift and erosion—tectonics, wind, water, ice—are most vividly and dramatically on display. It’s here that icons of the wilderness—grizzly, wolf, moose—dominate both the landscape and the imagination. It’s a place on the edge, both physically from its perch on the country’s northern border, and figuratively as its preservation is predicated on its existence as an untamed and inhospitable space. It asserts itself with the water and wind it hurls in your face and with its impassable craggy spine. And so when the sun does break through, when you finally reach that pass or peak, when you look on as one of earth’s great beasts treads the hillsides and valleys and lakeshores, its essence is what reaches in and grabs hold of something inside you, gives you butterflies, and keeps you dreaming of coming back again and again. #montanamoment @visitmontana #sponsored . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . #glaciermt #glaciernps #usinterior #wishyouwerenorthwest #pnwphotographer #northwestisbest #ourplanetdaily #pnwonderland #bestmountainartists #cascadiaexplored #visitmontana #rockymountainhigh #nationalparks #westglacier #sunrise #roamtheplanet #theoutbound #wildernessculture #goingtothesun #glaciernationalpark #glaciernationalparkmontana #sunrise #bestmountainartists #cascadiaexplored #loganpass

After discovering that the small lake and river we planned to camp at on Day 3 was bone dry (climate change + 1953 survey map are the culprits), we decided to push on towards Turquoise Lake. As the destination drew closer, the views got better and better, so it should come as no surprise we took a break here. (I basically threw my backpack down to set up this timelapse as fast as possible.) The clouds showed up, the lake lived up to its name, and the shadows danced across the whole scene so wonderfully I could have stayed for many more hours than the one we stayed. The movement was quite subtle though, so I posted two versions. Which do you prefer? 1: 29.97fps at 175% speed 2: 29.97fps at 100% speed

I captured this wolf last night while it (and another black wolf) fed on a bison carcass in Lamar Valley of Yellowstone. After spooking off a mother grizzly and two cubs, the wolves were so careful to approach the kill and took their time before eating. Also, I didn’t realize it until I was looking at the files on the computer, but this wolf only has one good eye. The left eye looks to have been badly injured and is gone. “Lush Chush” . Really excited to share this one with you guys. I had very low photography expectations as I returned to this falls almost a year after my first visit. Once you make it down to the water you’re greeted by a heavy mist to the face which is miserable for shooting any sort of long exposure. Regardless, I set up and let the pup go for a swim. After about 15 minutes the wind came to an abrupt halt and I had a small window to shoot. I’ve gotta say I was rather pleased with the outcome. - - - - #pnwonderland #cascadiaexplored #ourplanetdaily #pnwisbeautiful #usinterior #ig_color #pnw_compass #pnwdiscovered #pnwcollective #pnwparadise #oregon #stunnersoninsta #pnw #oregonexplored #artofvisuals #beautifuldestinations #earthfocus #earth_shotz #earthpix #sunset #oregonnw #exploreoregon #traveloregon #bestoforegon #jj_oregon #nationalparkgeek #omht #longexposure_shots #longexposure #fallcolors

A clear day cresting the summit of stony pass on the way into the backcountry of Denali National Park. Denali suddenly fills your view resulting in a reveal unlike any other. Guarantee the words that come out of your mouth will be “oh” followed by one of many swear words. To enter the hiking units of the park you’re required to ride many hours on a green school bus. Exchanging stories with other hikers, keeping an eye out for bears and other wildlife along the way. Feels a bit like jurassic park at times. The scenery becomes more dramatic with every mile that passes. Adding to the excitement of the days to come..
