Great attack here out of @calvolleyball 💥 This example outlines one of the most common issues I see with jumpers, a lazy penultimate. NOTE: This does not mean the jump is lazy, just one particular step that often times the athlete is unaware of. The second last stride MUST be deliberate and aggressive. The athlete must push into the penultimate as opposed to it being simply a result of the approach stride. Intento de mate a dos manos. Dos cosas: 💢Falta velocidad de ejecucion y un ultimo paso mas amplio. La carrerita antes de iniciar la batida debe ser a la maxima velocidad posible para transferir esa fuerza al salto vertical 💢Me falta técnica de mate. De salto voy bien (si os enseño intentos a una mano lo veríais) pero no estiro completamente los brazos y al no agarrar bien el balón tiendo a lanzarlo/empotrarlo contra la parte trasera del aro. Ahora veamos los puntos positivos: ✅2 meses sin tocar la sentadilla ni entrenamiento de salto por una tendinopatia glutea y aun así sigue creciendo mi salto. ✅Si entrenase mas la técnica de mate quizás no hablaría de esto. At DPT we often utilize biometrics when working with athletes. Through the use of EMGs, we know that the nervous systems functions much differently in a fatigued state than it does fresh. By regulating volume based on the performance of the athlete, we can push the athlete to improve, without training less than optimal firing patterns. . In this instance, the athlete would complete one squat followed by one jump, until their jumping performance dropped by 3-5%. at Drees Performance Training

@mikeykauf with a nasty dunk here. What we see with Mike is a shorter, more compact penultimate stride. You’ll notice his left leg, or block foot stays close and that hip doesn’t open up very much. What this can do is impede an athletes ability to accelerate through the take-off. That being said, this is how I jump and how I did jump at my peak when I was skying near that 50” barrier. Mike is a highly skilled athlete that has learned to maximize his mechanics. In order for a high level athlete to re-pattern, they must spend a lot of time potentially affecting their top end effort. What I would suggest is warming up with some penultimate jumps (just the last step + the block) working on lengthening it just slightly. Not only do I have some amazing boys that can #jump I have some girls👩 who are spectacular at jumping. I've had 4 girls hit #boxjumps 📦 over 51". Here are the girls that sit a top my #record list. @devynlos24 of @hofstrasoftball hit 51" she was PA state #softball player of the year. @brinn_doherty hit 51", the strongest of the 4 is probably the most impressive since she's the shortest. She has a state #longjump medal and the @healthyhappyfast longjump record holder. @lindsay__bauer @riderxctf hit 51.5" she has a bunch of state track medals. Bauer has my #broadjump record with a 9ft jump and she's has the 2nd best #verticaljump I've ever had with 29" @ashloooooooo is #allamerican #hurdler PSU Harrisburg, hit 52". She's also has the vertical jump record with a 29.5" vertical. I marvel 😳every time and I see the explosive power of these ladies. PR on pistol squats from today..50's for 3 each leg. Pistol squats might be my favorite lower body exercise, and they actually have a lot of transfer to 2 foot jumping despite it being a single leg exercise. Ankle felt fine during these. I'll be back soon! at Champion Training

Much of it relates to the acute (immediate) effects of performing heavy back squats on subsequent athletic performance, such as vertical jumping. While scientifically very interesting, this literature has only limited applications. After all, it is difficult to see how athletes might perform heavy back squats prior to either 1️⃣ competitive performances, or 2️⃣ individual plyometric exercises during training. On the other hand, this important study shows that there is also a PAP effect arising from performing just 2 drop jumps from a 43cm box prior to heavy back squats. When we moved into the new gym in June, my vertical was 24.6. I was actually very happy with that! It was 2 inches higher than my best jump when I was “heavy.” However, I started to train like my athletes do—Using Triphasic Methods (TM). I’ve added 4 inches to my vertical in just over 4 months at 39 years old! (TM) has been unbelievable not only for my athletes but for me personally. My goal is to get 30 inches before I turn 40. If I am able to accomplish that, it will be one of the most satisfying moments of my life. If not, I am still REALLY STOKED!!! #tmad #1325152 #verticaljump

Great effort here by @win_dot . What we will notice is a need for forward torso to a degree in order to travel the distance required. I would recommend keeping the upper back tighter during loading of this jump to create more potential energy through the shoulders. Today's workout: hammer the hips/glutes and some chest . Working hard to rehab the left knee. Each leg exercise I'm focusing on squeezing the glutes and pushing through the big toe. . I suggest trying the last exercise. I'm purposely rounding my back to isolate the glutes. Did 10 reps plus an isometric hold of 15 seconds. Absolutely lit my butt up! Plus the best part is that it's super knee/joint friendly.
