Murphy got a new cat bed today, and we are going to listen to Van the Man's 6th album while relaxing on this cooler day off. Originally, I was going to head to autozone and spend some time applying body filler to my car and sanding it down. I have an 18 year old rusty shit box, and just needed to get my inspection sticker. Fortunately, I found a place that passed me without all the hassle and work. I'm in the process of looking at new vehicles, and was so thankful to not have to go through all that nonsense that I bought Murph a new bed, and catnip toy. The funniest part of this story is a couple years ago I was called a record snob, by a pathetic and mentally unstable user from this community. I do love records (a lot), but I'm far from a snob with anything. Besides, I have way too many reissues, new vinyl, and low budget stereo equipment to even fit that description. I wear old clothes, drive an eye sore of a car, and live in an old apartment. If you're still thinking snob you clearly know nothing. I hate anything pretentious, overpriced, snobby, etc. I don't care about fancy things to impress people, and would rather people appreciate me for who I am than what I have. There you have it. • DM's Tour Bus Tapes featuring Pepe and Jenny! This grey record with interviews was released in 1989, however the interviews themselves were recorded in either late 1982 or early 1983 (swipe to the end to hear a little bit of what Martin and Alan were talking about there!). Can't say that the quality is outstanding (pay special attention to the last bit of the second video where you can barely hear Martin), but it's nice to hear the boys in any case, especially considering how young they were when this was recorded. • Off topic, but this is my last post for a while – I will have to log out for a few weeks to prepare for an exam. #NowSpinning Enjoying a @bloomgin & tonic and listening to some #Swedish #IndieRock courtesy of @thesoundsband. I am 99% certain I discovered these guys immediately after I discovered Muse back in 2003. The video for "Seven Days A Week" came on after "Time Is Running Out" and I was double hooked. Though I have to say, trying to find info on a band called #TheSounds using 2003 search engines was difficult to say the least. It was even harder to track down the album haha. I saw them in Montreal on the Crossing The Rubicon tour and they were great. Though my companion didn't think so...though their taste in music was always shite and I practically dragged them to the show haha. I've always kinda thought these guys were the Swedish version of #Metric. This album is just jammed full of 80s tinged indie pop hooks. The summer of 1989 was spent working my first “real” part-time job bagging groceries so 15-Year-old me could save up to buy a CD boombox, which I did the last week of summer vacation. Less than two weeks into the school year, on September 12, I took the bus downtown to the HMV at the Rideau Centre to buy my first release day CD (I had bought a few others over the summer in anticipation of the player). That album was Aerosmith’s “Pump”. Maybe because of this, I’ve always associated the album with growing up, and with independence (even taking the bus downtown by myself was still a novelty at that point). 17 years ago we witnessed unspeakable violence, mass destruction, and unthinkable acts of hatred. 2 years ago, this album served as my second post on this account, and I'm back for a rare repeat post. Philippe Petit's "walk" between the twin towers is a memory I like to hold of these buildings, and may be one of their defining moments (obviously before the attacks). Petit showed unmatchable bravery and courage by performing this stunt with no safety measures. On August 7, 1974 he walked between the towers for 45 minutes. He made 8 passes back and forth on a high-wire, and performed stunts like dancing, kneeling, laying down, and even saluting. The towers were still not complete at that point in time and weren't exactly popular buildings. This feat by Petit was said to have brought attention to the buildings and may have even created a level of affection for them. Today is @officialbigdaddykane’s 50th birthday — so let me take this opportunity to tell the story about how I had a 5 minute phone conversation with him about tarter sauce. In 2013, for the release of his Las Supper album, his team ran a contest — pre-order the album, share the receipt, and get entered to win a phone call from Kane. Well, I did all of that and I won! On a set day/time, my phone rang and it was him. I told him I was in Seattle and he immediately started talking about much he loved the tarter sauce at @ivarsclam. This 2007 EP by Portugal. The Man is an interesting one, both in terms of sound, as well as the concept. After recording past the 10 minute mark, John Gourley was hoping this piece would turn out to be 23 minutes long. Clocking in at 22:58, we'll give it to him. 23, of course, being the number Michael Jordan wore for most of his career. He later served as both the Washington Wizard's owner, and a player. That's how "It's Complicated Being a Wizard" got its name.
