As the snow settles into the mountains, all I can think about is how good the glacier climbing is going to be next season if it keeps piling up up there. Those crevasses though at North Cascades National Park

My dad and I backpacked into Glacier Basin on Mt. Rainier for my birthday back in September. The weather started out pretty cold and overcast but late into the evening, we were treated to clear skies and breathtaking views of the milky way. This picture is of my dad as we were making our way back to camp. #glacierbasintrail #mtrainier #milkyway #mtrainiernationalpark at Mount Rainier National Park

This weekend I hiked for only my second time alone and learned a great lesson. Colchuck Lake had this mystique in my mind because it is part of the sought after Enchantments, so I was admittedly feeling a little self conscious.🔹When I pulled up to the trail head, most of the cars were Subarus and nearly everyone was wearing puffy coats. I was thinking, “Oh gosh, here are all the real hikers with their secret club uniforms and matching cars, and here I am with my anything but trail friendly car and pink hat with a big puffy ball on top. They’re going to know I’m an imposter.”🔹To make things worse, Colchuck Lake isn’t even on the sign at the entrance of the trail, only Stuart Lake. So I had to make it even more obvious what a phony I was by asking someone where the entrance to Colchuck Lake is. He gave me a look that I thought questioned every part of my image, “She’s wearing makeup, obviously not serious about this. Her hat isn’t even made of the right material. Look at those ridiculous boots. Leggings? This isn’t yoga. She’s using her poles already, amateur.” But he told me where to go, and I was on my way. 🔹About half way up the hike, I saw the same man and he was with his girlfriend who, to my surprise, was wearing even more makeup than I was, a fluffy cute scarf, and big hoop earrings! I then realized what a goof I was being and that I was as worthy as anyone else to be on that trail. 🔹Don’t let your own mind bully you. Shut down those negative thoughts. at Colchuck Lake

Remember that lake from my last post? Well here it is again but from the second tallest peak in the Tatoosh mountain range. This summit wasn’t even planned, we saw it off of the trail and decided to climb it. Turns out it was a class four scramble... in other words, it was a moderate technical climb but still managed to make it the top anyways without technical gear...

In my last post, I recapped the intention of NEW RELATIONSHIPS for my 30th year, and I'm excited to share that my intetion for 31 is SERVICE. Reflecting on the issues both at home in the US, and while traveling and reading the news, I can't help but wonder if we forget that we share our world, experiences, and lives with others. How many of these negative instances could be prevented by compassion, and/or pausing to think on what effects our words or actions will have beyond ourselves? To me, SERVICE is the result of acting on compassion. By having this word in my mind every day, I hope to take a moment to think about what others need before acting or reacting, in addition to proactive acts of kindness. Because if we're not doing something about it, we're passively contributing to the problem. And because I think we could all use some more kindness in our lives. I know I could. To get me started, share an act of service (big or small) you saw or were a part of in the comments!

True belonging is the spiritual practice of believing in and belonging to yourself so deeply that you can share your most authentic self with the world and find sacredness in both being a part of something and standing alone in the wilderness. True belonging doesn’t require you to change who you are; it requires you to be who you are. // #brenebrown // #choosemountains

Seasons change, and so do we. Practice self-compassion and don't look back unless it's to see how far you've come. Words I'm trying to live by lately.
