235 were the numbers starring back at me, that was more than I’d ever weighed pregnant. How could that be? I was the queen of diets! You name it . . . I have done it, and if it was popular in the 90’s there’s good chance I have "done it" at least a couple of times. You see my love/hate relationship with food began in my early childhood and continued to be an on-going struggle into my late 20’s. I loved food, but plainly it was NOT loving me back. I felt exhausted with life. I wanted to feel good in my body and to engage in my life. I’ll never forget that day on the bathroom scale. It was the beginning of the search to regain my health. I yearned to feel GOOD in my body, to have peace in my mind, and to find the tools that would work long-term for me. The first thing I gave up was dieting. Next, I threw out that blasted scale. I started checking in and listening to my body. I had to discover what it felt like to be hungry; I didn’t know! I’d been emotionally stuffing myself for my whole life. I learned how to process emotions in a healthy way. I began walking, then jogging, and that led to running! I discovered that I loved to run! My first 5K meant as much to me as my first marathon. All said and done, it took me four years to lose 95 pounds. I regained my health, started to embrace my life, and fell in love with the amazing gift that a body is. I love this book- it was key in my transformation, “Intuitive Eating” by Evelyn Tribole and Elyse Resch. I share in hopes that anyone in a similar place might find hope, insight, and maybe a few new ways to help. As always . . . try it on, take what fits, and leave the rest. . . . . It’s been 17 years since that fated day on the bathroom scale. The path of health is an on-going journey in my life. I’m constantly checking in; am I really hungry or am I just stressed? I LOVE food. I love creating and sharing with this passion of mine. I’m grateful to have gained the skills to navigate this area of my life. I’m so grateful for my body and all that it allows me do: to move, to feel, to taste, to smell, to see, to create, to express, to live! We have information, maps, banking, food delivery literally at our fingertips at all times 📲. •We see ads for quick weight loss, fad diets, fat loss pills, sweat belts, and countless other “fitness” mumbo jumbo-and of course it looks appealing with the fitness models advertising🏃🏽‍♀️. •Then we have our “nutrition system” that makes a burger and fries quicker and cheaper than a salad. Pop is cheaper than water. And candy bars are lining our check-out isles instead of fresh fruits and veggies🥤 •The very hardest thing to overcome: our own damn brains! I don’t know about you guys, but you put fresh baked cookies, a basket of French fries, or piles of swirly frosting on cake in front of me and I’m drooling! To me, those things provide an instant gratification because they taste delicious!! •So, being “healthy” isn’t easy! You want to feel good/look good/improve health? Then you need to be able to think things through and ask: “Will this help me reach my goals?” •Lasting results will *hopefully* make you feel better than eating those cookies. •I’m not saying that you should never enjoy those goodies or take a lounge day! Here’s a hard pill to swallow. . . ☠️Personally, I choked on it for two years. I felt justified in being angry. I would play out scenarios in my head of things I wish I could say to them (nothing kind or life giving). I carried around bitterness like a banner, all the while talking to you guys about how worthy every person is. . 😳If I truly believed every person was worthy, I wouldn’t have been able to hold on to bitterness or anger for a second. . 🌀Yeah, That’s definitely a hard pill to swallow. . 🙅🏽‍♀️It took me a really long time to stop being angry. And when I get down to the root of it, it’s because I wasn’t secure in who I was. . 🤬It’s a lot easier to portray anger than let people know they hurt you or to admit to yourself that you’re insecure. At the end of the day, ALL anger, ALL bitterness, ALL hate, ALL anxiety...ALL of it is a result of fear. You don’t feel like you’re good enough and someone spoke about or treated you in a way that proved your fears true. . ☹️But a life of bitterness isn’t actually a life, it’s hell. It’s literally hell on earth. Heaven on earth is love...and I don’t believe you can live in fear and love simultaneously. So when you choose to constantly live in anger (fear), you constantly choose to live in hell. . 🦄I wanted you guys to know 2 things: . 1. There is absolutely no shame if you’ve been caught up in anger, fear or bitterness. Shame will only keep you repeating the ugly cycle of fear. . 2. There’s a better way. It takes vulnerability, and setting down the anger that’s become so comfortable to you...but trust me, there’s real life for you. It’s right there for you. You don’t even have to grab it, you just have to let go of the fear you’re currently holding on to. . 💕My hope and is that you choose love. This diagram goes off of my video yesterday encouraging rest between working the same muscle parts back to back. . When you work a muscle, you are essentially “damaging” it, causing muscle tears to form. When you rest the muscle it allows those tears to heal, which allows the muscle to grow in size, and strength. So resting them actually HELPS them! 💪🏻. . By rest I mean that specific muscle. Weight loss is so simple. It’s never easy. But it’s incredibly simple. The internet and magazines are filled with people purposely complicating it in order to market to you the solution to a problem that doesn’t exist. There is really only one thing standing in your way of fat loss. It’s the first law of thermodynamics, which states that heat (energy) cannot be created not destroyed. A calorie is a unit that measures the amount of energy required to raise the temperature of 1 gram of water, 1 degree Celsius. If over time you are failing to lose any measurable weight, it is because you are not in an energy deficit. You’re providing your body with energy equal to that which it requires to remain in a state of homeostasis. If after careful calculation of calorie intake or calorie deficit is made and weight loss is still not happening, then you are either incorrectly calculating the amount of energy you are intaking, or you are miscalculating the amount of energy your body burns over a given time period. Say hello to my new friend Juan. Those of you that know me, know I just randomly talk to whomever my heart tells me to. I saw Juan sitting by himself....I asked if he was hungry, he said yes, so I got him something to eat. I was gonna sit alone but I asked if he would love some company. He immediately said yes, wiped off the table and asked me to have a seat. You know....that was the most amazing 2 hour conversation I’ve ever had! Every morning I ask God to put people in my path who need me....but I never thought to ask to put people in my path that I needed! We get so caught up in the task at hand that we forget sometimes how good we really have it. Here’s this man, who has absolutely nothing and still had a smile on his face because he was alive, he had something to eat today and because he was able to have conversation without being judged. He just wanted to be heard...he just wanted to feel like he was a somebody...that he mattered, if only for a few hours. I told him I will lookout for him whenever I’m in that area and he will always have a lunch date. He said he would love to treat me next time! How beautiful is that?!! This is why I ALWAYS smile and say hello to people...no matter who they are. Living this quote. It may be slow going but I'm not stopping. I only have 2.5 months left of maternity leave then I'll be back at work and back to a regular schedule. I am looking forward to work but am trying to soak in the final months of leave with Grant. Some things are easier on mat leave and others aren't. . . My first mat leave was such an amazing time with one baby. I could go for long walks, work around his schedule and plan the day. With three it's tough to get anything in on my day. Between getting my oldest from school, Grants naps and picking up my middle one from daycare...there's not much time to get anything done! . . So I took 2 hours today to deep clean and rearrange my 2 youngest kiddos room. That meant all walls wiped down, dressers and shelves cleaned and organized, bed moved, all blankets, sheets, and pillows washed, and floor vacuumed and shampooed. I was worried they wouldn't like the changes. But this photo says it all. They loved it. It won't stay this clean for long though! I'm just glad I can work in the pockets of time I want to in between loads of laundry or cleaning floors. It's really not that hard to be a health and wellness coach. Beautiful and colorful roasted root vegetables straight from our dietitian’s kitchen! Roasting veggies is incredibly easy to do. All you need to do is cut them fairly evenly and make sure they aren’t too crammed together on a roasting pan. • • Roasting vegetables can boost the bioavailability of some nutrients, such as carotenoids in carrots. Also, cooking vegetables without submerging them in water means that fewer nutrients will be lost due to being leached out into the water. • • Oven-roasted veggies have a great texture and a delicious flavor and you’ve also only dirtied one pan (which you can either line with foil or parchment paper for even easier clean up!). By just adding a little bit of oil and herbs and spices, you can create something really flavorful. • • We like creating variety when we roast. Pictured above are carrots, turnips, parsnips, mini potatoes, bell peppers, and onions. (Plenty of non-starchy veggies to go around!). Choose your own herbs and spices - we love mixing and matching black pepper, rosemary, oregano, thyme, and crushed red pepper. • • For root vegetables, heat your oven to 425 and roast evenly cut and spaced veggies for about an hour, checking and stirring them every 20 minutes. Het stappendoel van gisteren was weer dik gehaald met 250% 👣! De hardlooptraining van sochtends was nog niet genoeg, nadat ik 1/3 van een grote milka oreo reep op had gegeten 🍫🤤. Dus zette ik savonds nog 6,5 km aan stapjes met @emmaroelofsofficial en haar logé 🐕. Vandaag staat er een dagje werken van 9 tot 6 op de planning en daarna een veldtraining ⚽️.
