Goshawks live in the shadows!! I hardly ever see them, but when I do it is usually spectacular, a flash of bright yellow eyes and feet and rich brown feathers. Goshawk sightings are events I remember. They are intense birds with a ruthless yet extremely intelligent feel about them. Ambush predators. Hunters of other birds often helpless baby birds plucked from their nests, like the Coots in my previous story. Mixed feelings!! Ultimately everything in this world is just trying to survive, sneaky Goshawks included. I do feel sad when I see animals being hunted. When an Osprey catches a fish I definitely feel sorrow for the fish and think about it’s pain, when Goshawks catch helpless pink babies I feel sad, they didn’t have chance!! Their life is over before it started!! On the flip-side I am drawn to the hunters. Birds of prey are mesmerising. They are my favourite creatures to photograph. I absolutely love their intelligence, I love figuring out how they operate and trying to predict their behaviour. I love their strength, agility and speed!! I admire the ruthless determination hunting to survive requires!! #planetbirds #wildlifeplanet #seeaustralia #earthcapture #wildlifeplanet #naturyst #birdsonearth #bestbirdshots #exclusive_bird #eye_spy_birds #kings_birds_ #nuts_about_birds #bird_freaks #best_birds_of_ig #your_best_birds #bb_of_ig #birds_of_instagram #bestnatureshots #best_birds_of_world #bird_brilliance #feather_perfection #birds_adored #birdlifeoz #melissazappelli #melissazappelliphotography #wildwingimages #birdphotography #wildlifephotography #goshawk

Spent three days sweating in the North Sulawesi jungle trying to find these little guys. Spectral Tarsiers are the world's smallest primates. Their eyes are so disproportionately large that they cannot move them, instead they move their heads to look around. | Tangkoko Nature Reserve, North Sulawesi, Indoensia | October 2018. . . . . . #Indonesia #wonderfulindonesia #travel #exploreindonesia #sulawesi #indonesiaparadise #indonesiatraveler #tarsier #wildlife #animals #nature #naturelovers #wildlifephotography #pocket_allnature #wildlife_perfection #pesonaindonesia #jungle #splendid_animals #animal_sultans #animalfanatics #world_bestanimal #bestnatureshots #animalsofinstagram #yourshotphotographer #earthcapture #primates #animals #wildlifeconservation #tangkokonationalpark at Tangkoko Batuangus Nature Reserve

Bear watching at the Neets Bay Hatchery in Alaska. You are on one side of the river that is full of salmon, and they are on the the other. Say about 30 feet away from you. But they are more interested in feeding. It was a scenic flight out of Ketchican in 2014. #princesscruises #grandprincess #alaska #cruise #cruisecritic #travel #travelphotography #cruiselife #princessalaskacruise #neetsbay #bear #blackbear #wildlifephotography

Grey Goshawk - White morph. On a cloudy day these guys are the ultimate stealth machine. Thankfully (for me) they won’t often slip under a noisy Forest Raven’s radar, making it obvious when there’s a raptor to spot. #birdphotography #wildlifephotography #animalphotography #naturephotography #wildlife_tasmania #tasmanianwildlife #tasmania #kunanyi #mtwellington #hobart #birds #birdsofinstagram #yourbestbirds #raptor #birdofprey #greygoshawk #canonaustralia #canon

T137A, aka Jack, cruises through the Juan de Fuca Strait in front of the Olympic Mountain range in Washington state. It’s such a pleasure to be able to work cooperatively through the Pacific Whale Watching Association with our friends across the border! This time Jack was well within Canadian borders. The way we identify Orca individuals varies, but the main tools used are the saddle patch and the dorsal fin. For Jack, the most obvious feature is the two nicks on the back of his dorsal fin. However, you can also see the beginning of the white saddle patch, just coming above the water behind the dorsal fin. Patterns of dark and white on those saddles can sometimes be the small details needed to tell an individual. Luckily here though, those nicks made it nice and easy. Small scars like that on the dorsal fin are very common among Orca, and some of the most noticeable ones are on Transient or mammal-hunting killer whales. Most tend to come from roughhousing with other orcas. These animals do have sharp teeth and sometimes the play can get a bit out of hand, leaving small, non-regenerative scars on the fin and body. As well, these scars may come from hunts, where transient killer whales are taking on animals with sizable choppers, unlike the residents who deal with the dentally-unimpressive salmon. It’s quite likely that some of these scars within the transient killer whale population come from a seal or sea lion that decided it had had enough of being chased around and thought they would stick it to the man. Either way, these scars really don’t affect the Orca too much unless they are very severe, so us scientists can thank our lucky stars that we get to cheat a bit on identifying individuals. The job would be much harder if saddles were all we had to go off of. at Victoria, British Columbia

So beautiful 💕 ・・・ #EarthCapture by @tinmanlee In the pink! A burrowing owl surrounded by flowers. Mainly active during the day, they can be found in grasslands, agricultural areas, deserts, or any other open dry area with low vegetation. They make their nests in the cavities formed by other animals such as foxes and prairie dogs and hunt from dusk till dawn. . . . . . #owl #birds #birdphotography #birdsofinstagram #nature #wildlife #naturephotography #wildlifephotography #bbcearth #earth #planetearth #pink #colorful #earthlovers #naturelovers #cute

Little Skunk brings his dinner ! Even though I slowed the video down a bit - the expressions on the little guys face get lost in the action , so here are some pics ! - for him it was quite a serious thing because he got pinched in the face - anyway- that didn’t stop him at all ! —- because of the climate here , the houses are usually not wildlife tight - he - amongst others is a frequent gest in my home - my cats and I just let him do his thing - because if we don’t - there might be some unpleasant side effects 🙊😅! - check the video for the rest of the story 👍🏻. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . #nature #wildliferefuge #igswildlife #animalsofinstagram #wildlifefestival #wildlifeonearth #animalelite #wildlifeowners #wildlifewarrior #cutieanimalspage #wild #wildlifephotography #naturphotography #wildlife_vision #splendid_animals #wildlifeofinstagram #instaanimal #natgeowild #wildlifefreak #wildlifeseekers #wildlifepainting #nature_pics #wildlifepark #animallovers #wildlifeconservation #weeklyfluffy #nature_perfect #exclusive_wildlife #naturehippys #cutelittlemonster at Playa Cabuya. Happy #fridayfeathers ! This is a series of photos I took through my window in lovely Cobble Hill of some pine siskins gathering nest material. The window is at ground level and I like the fact that I can watch up close without disturbing them or having them change their regular behaviour. The window pane provides a slightly blurred double vision kind of result, providing a glimpse into another world - I would not be able to get these shots outside! Here’s to spring, building new things and cultivating a fresh unique outlook moving forward! 🌷 . . . . . . . . #pacificnorthwest #pinesiskin #birding #bcbirds #wildlifephotography #pnwlife #bcbirding #pnw #naturephotography #birdingvi #pinesiskins #passerines #sharecangeo #naturebc #cangeo #ornithology #birdwatching #pnwphotographer #finch #finches #birdistheword #nestingbirds #springishere
