I said ‘That was lovely! I haven’t heard you play that one before’ He said ‘Me neither! ‘ He made up this little tune on the spot! 🎼 . Mr.R is a jazz piano player. He has played at Centre in the Square amount other venues! Parkinson’s has changed his dexterity in his left hand. We have worked on the strength, flexibility and mobility of both hands. His piano playing has really benefited!!! We have fun trying out different songs, playing by ear, testing his memory of different songs, talking about the significance of some songs! . Sometimes it’s not about standing or walking, sometimes it’s about being able to get back into activities that once brought a lot of joy! 🎹 . #kinesiology #kinesiologist #mobilekin #withakinyoucan #jazzpiano #exerciseismedicine #joyofmovement #parkinsons #wrawesome #kwawesome #wellness #exercise #piano

Restez actif! #kinweek #withakinyoucan #SemainedeKin #avecunkintupeux #unkinalaide #sport #activitephysique #diabetes

Part 3 of looking at the ParticipACTION report card for Physical Activity for Adults! Today’s topic is A) Muscle and Bone Strengthening and B) Balance There was limited data available to assess Canadian’s achievement of muscle and bone strengthening and balance guidelines. And so, ParticipACTION gave a grade of ‘INC’ meaning inconclusive. This doesn’t mean that these 2 topics are not important. In fact, they are very important! Especially as we get older. Muscle and Bone Strengthening 💪- Canadian guidelines recommend muscle strengthening activities at least 2x/week to increase muscle strength and endurance! Building the strength of your muscles and bones can decrease the risk of falls as well as the risk of breaking a bone. You might be thinking, how do you strengthen your bones??? As a #kinesiologist I can help you out! In easy terms - weight bearing exercises, such as walking, jumping; ⛹️‍♀️and exercises that make the muscles pull on the bones, such as weight lifting 🏋️‍♂️can help to build up bone! Building bone strength is especially important with respect to #osteoporosis . Balance - Canadian physical activity guidelines for older adults recommend those with poor mobility to perform physical activity to enhance #balance and prevent falls. Balance training is important to start BEFORE your mobility has declined! Balance is a part of each program I design! You can start with standing with your feet together. Feeling steady? Try closing your eyes. Did that make it a bit more challenging? Want something a bit more challenging? Try standing on one foot, maybe close your eyes, without tapping your foot down, lean forward and extend your leg behind you; can you hold that? 🧘‍♀️ Do you or someone you know need to work on balance or strengthening? Connect with me and let’s get started on your journey to a more balanced and strong body! 💪 https://www.participaction.com/en-ca/resources/adult-report-card #kinesiology #mobilekinesiologist #participACTION #strengthening #fitness #wellness #fallprevention #seniorwellness #kinweek #withakinyoucan #exercise #kwawesome #wrawesome #kitchener #waterloo #exerciseismedicine

It’s National Kin Week!❤️☺️🧘🏼‍♀️🏋🏼‍♀️ What is a Kinesiologist? 👀 A Kinesiologist is a human movement specialist which is specifically trained in helping you move well, be well! - - They analysis and assess they way the human body moves, looking at imbalances, strengths and weaknesses, movement patterns, posture, and functional capabilities. - - Through their assessments, they are able to create an individualized exercise program to work on improving balance in your body and specifically helping you move well, be well. - - Working with a Kinesiologist, you get to work one-on-one with someone who is a human movement specialist that understands how the body moves as a whole and more specifically with injuries, chronic conditions, traumas like whiplash or concussions, and complex cases like surgeries and musculoskeletal conditions. This is very beneficial in getting the specific care suited to your needs and lifestyle. - - Kinesiologists provide an important piece of the puzzle to the health care system and we are very proud at what we do and provide to our community. Nothing brings us more joy than seeing our clients move well, helping our community be well. - - If you are interested in working with a Kinesiologist, please give us a call to book a Kinesiology assessment and we would love the opportunity to see how we can help you move better. - - Written by Katrina Dittmann, BSc. The ParticipACTION report card gave Canadians a ‘D’ in Overall Physical Activity. Four indicators made up this overall grade; 1) Daily movement 2) Moderate to Vigorous Physical Activity 3) Muscle and Bone Strengthening and 4) Balance Activities Gather ‘round friends! Today we are going to talk about Daily Movement!!! What do you mean by daily movement?? This was measured by how many steps were taken in a day of any intensity. If you take 7500 or more steps per day, you are considered to have a ‘Physically Active Lifestyle’ 5000-7499 steps per day is considered a ‘Low Physically Active Lifestyle’ and less than 5000 per day is considered a ‘Sedentary Lifestyle’ ParticipACTION gave a C grade in daily movement! 52% (barely half) of Canadian adults take at least 7500 steps per day. ONLY 52% of Canadian adults have a Physically Active Lifestyle 18% fall into the sedentary lifestyle category! Let’s get those step counts up!!! Walking is an easy and FREE way of increasing your physical activity each day! You can increase and decrease the intensity by walking faster or slower, taking a longer or shorter walk, climbing hills or walking on even surfaces, or even adding a load (a backpack of groceries, pulling a wagon, pushing a stroller). Utilizing active transport - biking, walking, roller blading, skateboarding! Going for a walk during your break at work; walking meetings; going to talk to a coworker in person instead of calling or emailing them Take the stairs instead of the elevator or escalator Walk around while you talk on the phone What other ways do you get your steps in??? https://www.participaction.com/ #kinesiology #kinesiologist #mobilekinesiologist #paricipACTION #steps #dailymovement #Cgrade #walk #walking #getthosestepsin #activetransport #stairs #canyouwalkandtalk #walkablecommunity #kwawesome #wrawesome #withakinyoucan #exercise #physicalactivity #getmoving #withakinyoucan

What is ParicipACTION? ParticipACTION is a national non-profit organization, originally launched as a Canadian government program in the 1970s, to promote healthy living and physical fitness. You might remember the commercial that showed how 30 year old Canadians were about as fit as 60 year old Swedes. Or what about Hal and Joanne encouraging everyone to ‘Keep Fit and Have Fun!’ after each BodyBreak segment! These both were part of ParticipACTION! Their mandate is “As Canada’s premier physical activity brand, ParticipACTION helps Canadians sit less and move more through innovative engagement initiatives and thought leadership” ParticipACTION has recently released their 2019 Report Card on Physical Activity for Adults. They gave Canadians a D grade for Overall Physical Activity :O If you got a D on your report card at school, you probably would be a bit disappointed! This represents a percentage of 27-33% ONLY 27-33% of Canadian adults are getting the reccomended amount of physical activity for health!! Over the next little bit I will highlight each category in the Report Card. Stay Tuned! #kinesiology #kinesiologist #participACTION #physcialactivity #wellness #kwawesome #wrawesome #bodybreak #sitlessmovemore #withakinyoucan #motionislotion #exercise #getmoving #Dgrade
